      @@CharliesMaidenCovers absolutely. yellow colorant categorically is a lot thinner and spreads out far less opaque than other colorants. I'd highly recommend, if at all possible, using a traditional paint sprayer and using a tinted primer. hardware stores like home depot and lowe's have primers that can have colorant added to them to assist with color transitions, so getting a yellow primer will help immensely not just in getting the new color down but getting it down EVENLY.

    To avoid droplets and uneven spraying, shake it like there is no tomorrow, and then do a few short burst away from your target to prime the nozzle, then while painting do short fast burst taking care not to overlay the paint in each pass to avoid unnecessary build up. Adam Savage has a good display technique and explanation on some of his one day build videos.

    @NailsOeltjen Před 4 lety +27

    I'd mask off the inner parts as the paint will add thickness to the parts and your hardware and pcb may not fit as well once you put it back together. Also going to a graffiti supply shop is your best bet for paint with high uv rating to prevent fading, and you can get paint with a nice matt finish that you won't need to clear coat. Try Montana Black. The price is the pretty much the same as the crappy stuff from the hardware store. All paint will need a few days for the solvent to evaporate out completely and for the paint to cure to full hardness. Best to not bring it into the house but leave somewhere like a garage. And you should ALWAYS wear respiratory protection.

  • @SamChaneyProductions
    @SamChaneyProductions Před 4 lety +7

    Great video and builds. I would like to say that it is possible to spray too light of a coat. Ideally, each coat should have enough coverage so that the droplets all connect together before they dry. This allows them to form a flat, continuous film over the surface because of surface tension. Otherwise you can start to get droplets drying on top of previously dried ones which makes a bumpy texture, unless that's what you're going for.

      I've used both Rust Oleum and store brand paints. Some of the professional paints are a bit different but all decent.

    if I have an aluminum case, do I need to sand the case too?? Isn't it gonna leave a mark on the aluminum case?

    Are these both plastic cases? I see the Keychron k2 also has an aluminum option. And if anyone here has a preference for painting plastic vs. aluminum, I'd love to hear it!
    EDIT: at the end of the video, he does mention that the keychron k2 does have aluminum sides. And the Vortex Cypher is of course plastic.

    Hi! I want a Mofii keyboard, but read in the reviews that the paint chips off easily, and so if I do get one, I was thinking of taking it apart first and applying a clear coat of spray paint, then reassembling. Do you think that will help? Thanks in advance!

    Sanding in between coating doesn't remove the paint or the primer that you just applyed creating an uneven portion?
