Didn't record many songs this time because I got a great spot and wanted to enjoy the music in the moment. (If you’d like more music, check out my videos from Hobart and Sydney gigs)
Still, I captured most of Anton's ramblings while waiting between songs:
03:29
08:20
13:19
19:01
22:20 mentioned Morrissey
26:11
32:03 Anton left, band jam
34:30

47:08 Ryan left

After the gig, he didn’t head backstage, so I asked if he got my gift (handed to a staff before the show). My friend asked for an autograph. He took the album, crouched behind the barricade, and whispered he usually doesn't do it; don't let others see. He said there were too many people around, and invited us outside the back door. We chatted for almost an hour, despite his tour manager coming over multiple times, politely telling him it was time to go.
We squeezed onto a stone platform by the side of the backdoor stairs. This time, he seemed more exhausted than in Sydney. Perhaps because there were no others around, his voice was soft and low. I noticed fresh marks (scratch marks?) on his arm and I asked about the meaning of the tattoo on the other arm. He spoke about his voice not being great, his sister, UK and US politicians, my hometown China, his bandmates, unpleasant encounters with some people, and passionately describing a dragon as immense as a deep-sea trench. His thoughts jumped around, but it’s great because mine’s too. I mentioned my boring job and he joked to comfort me. He's such a gentle person offstage.
Midway through, he started coughing but still found someone to borrow a lighter to smoke. His vodka lemon mineral water drink was right there, but he didn't drink it once. Honestly, I didn't get to say much; he didn't really give you a chance to interject. It felt like he had a lot to express and needed someone to listen. Even if I just kept him company for a while, I was happy to do so. - Hudba
It’s ironic that when I played drums for this band in 97’ Anton said he was going to “hit me” and I told him “well that won’t end well for you”. Good to see he’s still up to his old tricks and using my lines! I love this guy!!!
Your story in the description reminded me of when i met him in Lille where BJM had a concert during the 2016 Euro football games, it was late June. I went to the gig with a friend of mine that lives in Brussels and the venue was located at this humongous mall like structure with outside escalators connecting different buildings. While we were searching for the venue a few hours before the concert i couldn't believe my eyes when i saw Anton randomly going down on one of the outside escalators some 50 meters away from us. He was heading down alone and we figured that must be the place where the venue is located so we went there hoping maybe we will run into him. Once we got there we waited for a while and didn't see him so we decided to head down to the supermarket to buy a couple of beers and then chill outside. It turned out that due to the many football riots during the games the town decided to not sell alcohol so we couldn't get our beers. So we went back where we last saw Anton and sat down. Sure enough, few minutes later Anton came out of this back door and i instinctively stood up to shout "Anton" hoping he will turn. His reaction was so laid back once he turned and saw me and calmy said something like "Yeah in a bit". A few minutes later he came back and directly walked towards me and had this one sided smile like he saw an old friend and reached out to shake my hand. I was so nervous that my dreams came to life that after shaking his hand the only thing that came to my mind was to ask "How are you?". This led to us having probably the best 10 minute conversation of my life, walking around and talking about many different topics. I remember he told me how he had to tackle some tall French guy that tried to steal a beercan stack from his tour bus and then make a run for it. It felt like a conversation you have with someone you knew for years. We also talked about the supermarket downstairs and how full it was and how everyone there seemed to walk like zombies poking around the shelves. He just came back from there before meeting us and told us that he was searching for tea, but didn't get anything. I also told him that me and my friend tried to buy a couple of beers, but they didn't sell them because of the games. He seemed almost as pissed as i was about it (you can tell i was young). After our talk was about to end he said that he will grab a couple of beers from his stack and give them to us. I didn't expect that of him, i was just happy i got to meet him and talk to him. Some 2-3 minutes later probably while me and my friend were sitting down still excited about what had happened we heard a voice go "Psst" from the same door he walked out from and only Anton's head coming out while holding two beercans in his hands. It was like a scene from an animation movie. I went to him to get the beers and thanked him all nervous and filled with excitement while he silently went back. It turned out we were at the place where the backstage was located. When we popped the beers the beer foam bursted out of the cans. That's how i knew that was the same stack that was almost stolen. Best beer of my life for sure! Sorry about the long read and thank you for sharing your upload!
No! Thank you for sharing your story! Reading it brought a smile to my face❤️. It's a wonderful story, and you're a brilliant storyteller too.
i had a much shorter but similar experience accidentally running into him alone, smoking just before show. I stumbled into him - or I would have avoided him because I don't really have much to say and I don't star-gaze. Idid same as you on such short notice: I asked him how HE was -- not the tour, the music, the tour bus, the venue -- how was HE doing. I got some honest, if not short, answers. and it was all good. But that was in Ma 22, long before the "bewitching hours" of relapses and rants. There was none of that at the show i saw -- just music and passion and an extremely eager crowd.
great story and insight thanks for sharing....He has his good and bad days, but they are all bad when he's smashed....
Awesome backstory you provided. Thank you for posting and your sincere love of this band❤
Thank you for your kind words! Talking about the band/music brings me a lot of joy🥰
"There's no shame...." he"s so great. Thanks for sharing this!
thanks! especially enjoyed Nightbird
"He's such a gentle person off stage" hahahahahaha! As someone who knew him well for years, I can assure you that was hilarious.
I feel like they all went shopping at the local mom mall just before the show. No grit, just clean hair, new hats, pumpkin spice clothes and bad vibes.
Tambourine man never stops. The metronome…
Very cool story in the description
This Anton is having a Tour mental breakdown, he needs to retire to the studio and just live on the meager hits from the past, his old pals Dandy Warhols.
Love the Rev Jim Jones “shush” - he thinks he IS Jim Jones. Some Flavor-Aid for the crowd would have been the merciful thing.
thanks for posting Celeste, saw them in Sydney, not the best. Hope Anton is ok.
He really doesn't want to be there at all.............
Still did the whole set when I would have left 10 minutes in....the crowd was just awful
Is this after the brawl or before
Before. This show was on a Sunday, the next one (on Tuesday) ended in a brawl, and the rest of the tour dates got canceled 😢
So Mr Tamoborine man had already left?@@celeste_2190
Vodka
Im embarrassed for them.
Sorry last comment until someone else does but did you happen to see the Anthony Bourdain episode where he's hanging with Anton...my 2 heroes breaking bread.. it's fantastic
No, but thanks for the recommendation! I'll check it out
@@celeste_2190 it's wonderful.
@@celeste_2190 if you ever get a chance to speak with Anton ever again just let it be known that I am disgusted in the crowds behaviour this tour . That's not right how he had to cancel because it got so out of hand those pieces of shit do not represent myself or you or my friends that were with me because I got my ticket in July and looked forward to it all year because I have been having a really hard year and some of us were there for the right reasons... I'm ashamed of the lot of them if he never comes back to Australia I'd totally get it .. I'm grateful for everything that guys ever done . The music saved me
I would love to see this. Do you have any link to share please?

22:25 😂😂😂😂
Men without hats? Now I see why I do not go to live concerts anymore.
Whats with all the hats
where's Joel?
Anton said Joel's 17-year-old cat passed away, so he went back home for her after the Adelaide show. Edit. Just saw Joel’s Instagram post; his cat didn't die. I shouldn't have believe what a drunk Anton said😂
@@celeste_2190 that's so funny 😂😂😂😂
This other guy shook a pretty fuckin mean tamborine but I gotta say
People are talking about how rude he was like taking while tuning after being asked not to isn't rude or heckling isn't rude or anything that he put up with this tour... Anton's a sweetheart. He heart reacts my comments.. seems like not a lot but it means the world to me
@@MrMickthemonster Absolutely. I had the luck to meet him twice this tour, even though both times were after the show when he was tired and drunk. But still, he spoke to me with such genuine warmth and gentleness. He's truly a sweetheart
I didn't go to this tour. I'm Stuck in Israel. Enough war going on.
I'm sorry. May you be safe, and may this and all wars be ended very soon.
That's terrible. These guys are living it up while ppl are dying. Fuck bjm
Hey Anton, your book of tricks is empty. Glue factory coming up
Best 100 Bucks ever
You spent a 100 bucks to see this garbage? Oh my... your generation are such a weak, sad lot.
I don’t get this band.

Snooze fest 🤫
This is hilariously awful.
Cry baby 👶
People pay to listen this crap, or do they just come for the fights?
