    It’s amazing to me something as severe as debilitating fatigue can be TMS. It feels so much like something is wrong. The webs we weave!

    This is incredible Jim. When you see what can manifest negatively physically by our Minds think about how we can change all the power into Magnificent positivity. It is difficult though I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia

    Well put Jim - thank you. What you are sharing here is pretty much akin to the 3 principles paradigm which makes the point that we are always living in the ‘feeling’ of our ‘thinking’ .... once that penny drops there can be a huge shift not only one’s perceptions but also one’s symptoms.

      @thepainpt  Před 3 lety +2

      I would say there’s a very good chance this is TMS as it sounds like an emotional injury not a physical one. Tension in the jaw is a classic sign of sympathetic nervous system activity

    Thank you Jim! I understand that is nothing to fix, that my body is ok, even if it’s feels physical. But I know that is something wrong with my limbic system, and this fact makes me feel that I need to do something about it , to use some techniques to rewind it. There are some programs, like DNRS... What is your opinion?

    • @thepainpt
      @thepainpt  Před 3 lety +1

      Those programs can be good. It’s about working with your symptoms, emotions, and thought these are all things that can originate from the brain. And getting the nervous system to settle from a stressed fight or flight state to a resting healing state which is learning to relax into what’s happening. Reach out if you need more support on your journey take care

    • @thepainpt
      @thepainpt  Před rokem +2

      You really have to put the picture together if it’s severe changes it can have an impact on your symptoms or if it’s acute in nature. Then you have to look at your emotional stress history around the time the symptoms started because that is one area that no doctor asks about it something I see in pretty much everybody I work with

    You are mentioning a,b,c symptoms.
    But what iff it is all over pain and other weird fybromyalgia-like symptoms
    My pain is really hard to live with, and relaxing is really hard being in so much pain and uncomfortable sensations.
    Will it be enough to accept that it is all "just" TMS?

    • @thepainpt
      @thepainpt  Před 3 lety +2

      Yes accept it all. It’s important to come
      From the premise that what’s happening is ok. When it is TMS it is Ok!

    Hi Jim, I really appreciate your video. I’ve been battling sciatica for 4 months. I’m aware of TMS and have healed back pain in the past by following Sarno’s work. I’m wondering why the same approach is not working to heal my sciatic pain. Do you think I need to be checked out by an MD to rule out anything physical before I can allow myself to heal? Thanks in advance for your advice!

  • @manonkaufman6689
    @manonkaufman6689 Před 3 lety +2

    Great video. So I've been actively shifting to indifference and not "fixing" myself for a few months. Symptoms persist. They move around, but they remain. I am not worried that there is something structural or neurological. I am positive it is all TMS. What does complicate things a bit is creating safety. Felt safety. I am not out of abusive situations, which keeps me in a fight or flight state most of the day. Despite the work I am doing in therapy, there is just no way to override the survival stress response. How should I go about reassuring my nervous system that I am okay?

    • @thepainpt
      @thepainpt  Před 3 lety +5

      I think probably needing to stand up or not tolerate the abuse would be helpful. This would be an expression of anger and channeled into setting boundaries. Or removing yourself from the abuse if able to. One of the things you have to remember is abuse is not normal or healthy and you don’t want to be part of that because as you can see it affecting you with symptoms. It’s sometimes hard to be symptom-free when you’re in a situation like that. One thing you can realize there is that your symptoms not likely to be structural or physical they are more stress-related they’re not serious just the body’s way of expressing stress so you’re OK but in reality. Hey Jim awesome video thank you !🤩 I have a question about not trying to fix anything -i am extremely confident i have TMS and I have so many if the personality traits you see listed for potential tms ppl (perfectionist, do gooder, ppl pleaser,put others and situations before myself in the past,worrier,anxiety etc) so I'm becoming super quick at noticing when I am thinking or displaying one of these traits, but when I do notice I automatically think nope that's the wrong way to think, thats gonna make things worse and I try to change my thinking or way I'm acting where possible-so I guess I'm always trying to "fix" myself or feel like all these traits are damaging and need to be fixed or changed 🤣🙀🤯
    What are your thoughts on this or is there another way to think or tackle these personality traits?

    • @thepainpt
      @thepainpt  Před 2 lety +2

      Yeah little by little see if you can shift your patterns so that you aren’t generating so many emotions that can cause upticks in symptoms. At same time just allow and accept your feelings and symptoms (emotions) to settle without concern.

    Hi Jim, thank you for this video. How would you suggest to go about when you did have an injury + some complications and now are stuck in mindbody/TMS as a result of the emotional trauma the injury caused?

    • @thepainpt
      @thepainpt  Před 3 lety +3

      I think you need to work on the emotional trauma because the body typically heals structurally and physically without us doing anything unless there are severe damage that needs medical attention like surgery. The prevalence of emotional and mental stress related pain is widespread and obviously under reported and under treated in our western world. There was a study done in Australia where they took people who were in car accidents with whiplash injuries. physical therapy by itself did not help these people it was a combination of doing the emotional psychological work around the accidents that allowed them to succeed in physical therapy later

    • @thepainpt
      @thepainpt  Před 3 lety +1

      The key is putting the pieces together on the initial assessment. It can be a physical injury that causes pain or it might be related to the brain and nervous system. It’s not that confusing there can be some gray areas or overlap but usually you can look at the persons personal history and see if there’s an influence from the brain and nervous system

    I have spondilolistisis which is a structural issue. I have managed to live with it. I have to modify movements but the pain has reduced alot. I do have some bad flare ups from time to time. I want to apply what you are teaching but feel discounted by the fist point as I do have a structural problem which surgery is not guaranteed to address. I suppose I am asking of a way to eliminated added pain from the mind. Hope you have some tips. Thank you so much for your content. Just listening gives me hope!!

    Hi Jim. I'm a little confused as to what you're meaning by "damage" here. In my case, the C&/T1 verterbrae has, due to a fall, moved to the right (you can physically feel this if you put your fingers on the bones) and I have been told this is the cause for referrred pain into my shoulder blade, ribs etc. Would this be a TMS-curable thing or is this in fact what you would define as damage,only correctable with surgery? I am currently on 7 types of meds and am literally confined to the bed or couch as the pain is very severe. It also hurts more if I am in any way physically active. Would very much appreciate your thoughts on this. Thanks in advance.

    • @thepainpt
      @thepainpt  Před 3 lety +2

      Well it Hard to say for sure as I can’t diagnose over the Internet. Sounds like you actually had a physical injury so it could be causing that for you. Also depends on how severe injury was and how long it’s been since you’ve had that plus a number of other factors

      @@thepainpt Thank you. Yes, I am currently waiting for some results on that but the pandemic is delaying those... Thanks so much for answering, it's much appreciated. I thought I'd ask as I have had this pain for seven years which is quite the time, but it has worsened recently. It all started with a small pain in the scapula and all happened just after my divorce so I did wonder if it could be emotional, but maybe not. And yes, totally appreciate you not being able to diagnose over the internet! . Thanks again :)

    • @thepainpt
      @thepainpt  Před 3 lety +1

      You can take nsaids as needed it just depends on the condition and what it is for. Chronic type pain that has ruled out the structural we don’t really want to do anything that targets the physical. For example opioids are the worst thing to give to a chronic pain patient as it just compounds the problem. The research is pretty clear on this.

    • @thepainpt
      @thepainpt  Před 3 lety +1

      yes can be any symptom that there is not a structural cause. One of the clues is any symptom that is chronic and hasn't healed in a normal amount of time with traditional treatment. Also have to look at the your life history and who you are as a person- thats more important than the symptoms!! Reach out if you need help on your journey!
