"With her enormous...holsters" okay Jonathan
😏
"Pair of nicely rendered Mac-10s"
Titter titter

" Classic Lara....with her enormous..." i wasnt sure if he gonna mention her weaponry or something else after that.
Yeah I wasn’t expecting holsters to be the next word
"A pair of VERY nicely rendered.... MAC-10s"

Legit not sure if Jonathan does this on purpose or not lol
@@benzzodude it has to be on purpose

I must say she has some beautifully modelled brass.
think johnny has a bit of a "unique" side to him?😂
This is Jonny we’re talking about, of course the innuendo were unintentional.
"She's got fingers. It's got a trigger. Her finger is on that trigger"
Old school gamers will remember how amazing stuff like that was, back in the day. The first time I saw Lara from TR:legend on PS2 my jaw dropped with such level of detail 😅
Nice reboot, but so short, linear and scripted with invisible walls and little replay value:-S

I'd like to repeat my request for the Cruelty Squad guns while I'm here.
a cruelty squad video would be great
I'm sure Jonathan would love how many obscure historical prototypes Cruelty Squad has
"Classic Lara With her enormous holsters"
We knew exactly where he was looking lol
I for one welcome this series' transition into _The Ferguson-Jewitt Hour_
Imagine an hour of Jonathan Ferguson, the keeper of Firearms & Artillery at the Royal Armouries museum in the UK...
Dave has become quite knowledgeable about firearms in his own right
i wouldnt mind, i only subbed to gamespot for john (that sounds weirder then i thought)@@dcflake5645
At this point they basically run this channel and i’m all for it
Please Jonathan Ferguson, the keeper of Firearms & Artillery at the Royal Armouries museum in the UK, break down the weapons from *METAL GEAR SOLID 3* before the remake comes out.
So many weapons in MGS3 to react and comment on like the Patriot's infinite ammo magazine, the EZ tranq gun, Snake's customized officer M1911A1, Snake whittling the pistol grip to use a knife for CQC, Ocelot's SAA juggling skills, The End's paratrooper tranquilizer Mosin Nagant, the Davey Crockett recoil-less nuclear launcher and Eva's chinese Type 17 mauser clone with her "bandit shooting" technique.
There are so many more other interesting trivias and weapons in MGS3 so please Dave and Johnathan, please consider making a video for the MGS3.
One of the most heinous gun foibles in any game I can remember is the ending scene of MGS3 with The Boss shooting the Beta-C mag'ed CAR15 at the helicopter and it going into bullet time and the 5.56 rounds are tumbling through the air like ninja stars.
@@bennyb.1742 I believe you mean the cutscene at the start of Operation Snake Eater, when boss shoots the wreck of Snake's shuttle. My guess is that the animator probably applied rotation to the wrong axis. But that mistake is still present in the 3DS port as well.
@@bennyb.1742is it a mistake or is it genius kojumbo? Who knows 🤷
Not to mention the gun jamming on Ocelot, the Mk. 22 "Hush Puppy" and the rebounding bullets of the Single Action Army! Also be interesting to see a Makarov, I know they have Single Action Armies, Double Action Armies, Double Action Navies and many other pistols in the Royal Armouries, so he could easily show some off! (I have been in a few times! The recent Retro Games Fair was there and a couple of mates of mine had a stall there reet next to a guy who runs a small games shop near me!)
Been wanting MGS3 since forever it’s my favourite game
I think the textures on the mags of the "Uzi's" are made that way to have continuity with the ammo pick-ups.
Yeah, I think most of the decisions maintain continuity.
Some of the enemies have goofy looking weapons.. but, keeping them goofy looking retains flavour, I guess?
I was just going to say that!
Grenade Launcher is probably an HK69
@@RG001100 in original game, Larson's pistols have missing textures in Peru and cowboy that Lara fights has just... tubes. Not guns but like, two pipes protruding out of his arms to stand in for magnums... so SOME continuity suffered.
the "uzis" have witness holes in the mags because the ammo pickups for them have witness holes to make it more obvious that it's ammo, the original graphics show that on the ammo item too and i guess they just made it more obvious that it's the same mags by adding it to the gun
I'll be honest I never knew they were witness holes, I thought they were just fancy gold detailing.
@@samsanimationcorner3820 lara does seem rich enough that she'd just add gold trim to her mags
@@AleK0451 exactly. She's got f you money. But I think it's interesting how different people perceive low poly textures and pixel art.
"Annihilated by Lara Croft's enormous front blast" is a sentence I wouldn't have guessed I'd be thinking of at the end of the video...
I'm still here, still wanting a video on F.E.A.R.
Excellent suggestion! The guns in F.E.A.R. are just so visceral! Still one of the best shotguns in games :-)
Oh here's hoping! The laser carabine was a hoot
Or if not that, Trepang 2.
Speaking of Monolith games I'd also love to see Jonathan's take on the weapons of Blood and Shogo, and if he were a building materials/office supplies expert, Condemned as well.
And No One Lives Forever
I think I prefer Lara’s iconic pistols being the browning hi powers over the colts or the usp match’s. At the time of the first game, the hi power was the standard issue sidearm for the British military.
The most shocking thing about the Hi-Power is that Inglis is actually getting back into the Hi-Power game this year after having not manufactured the gun since 1944.
@@AICW That's rather misleading to flat out lying It's not the original Canadian manufacturer but someone else entirely who acquired the trade name and is producing in a different country. That would be like attributing the Springfield 1903 rifle to the Springfield company that makes the XD pistols.
A neat detail of the Magnums in TR1 is that you can see the Natla Industries logo on it
Reject modernity, embrace block
PSX moment
ah yes, the G11
I know we've seen Jonathan holding 2 pistols before. But seeing him holding 2 TR pistols is just another level
Funny how one of the hipowers is mirrored version with the ejection port on the other side for that symmetrical ejection pattern.
Since Jonathan did a reaction to the guns in Helldivers, I would love to see him react to the guns of Earth Defense Force 5, there are a lot of insane armaments in there
- For the Fencer class, its loadout ranges from standard heavy weapons like Gatling guns, to handheld automatic cannons and Howitzers, shoulder mounted mortars and ATGMs, and also Spear guns (You can dual wield those weapons as well), and this class is the closest thing we have to a novel-accurate Mobile Infantry soldier of the Starship Troopers novel.
For the Wingdiver class, its loadout are consisted of energy weapons, plasma guns, lance shaped laser weapons, plasma guns that can lock on to targets.
-For the Air Raider class, they have access to limpet guns, which are guns that fired sticky bombs at enemies, but they can call in a variety of fire support options, ranging from standard mortars, to bombing runs, to cruise missiles and even orbital lasers. They also can call in vehicles ranging from light vehicles like bikes to APCs , tanks, and mech suits.
-For the Ranger class, they mostly have access to standard infantry weapons like assault rifles and shotguns, but they can also use shoulder fired MLRSs.
And the number of weapons and equipments in the game is on par with Borderlands 2.
THE EE DEE EFF DEE PLOOOOYS
@@katanafourzeronine To save our mother Earth from any alien attack.
On a different note, the only time when the Earth Defense Force is portrayed as the good guys is in the game bearing their namesake, whereas in Red Faction: Guerilla and the Dead Space games, they are the villains, the EDF in Red Faction rules Mars with an iron fist.
EDF! EDF!
I think it would be interesting to see Jonathan's comments on the various forms of the Service Weapon from Control (technically just one weapon, but since it transforms into seven different weapons there'd be enough material for a full video).
its funny that the OG Mac 10s really arent much different, the real mac 10 is just 2 rectangles stuck together XD
Aw. He skipped the magnums in TR1. Also the Shotgun in the 98 version of TR3 was modeled after a SPAS-12, but for some reason it's universal across all 3 in the remaster.
They used the same grenade launcher from TR2 for TR3 also, but it's supposed to be drum fed in TR3. It's probably an HK69 for TR2 since they didn't really know in the video.
@0:45 I loved those holsters ever since I first played this game as a teenager 😍
At around 4:55 Jonathan says that the Mac-10s seem to be custom made for Lara.
In fact in a previous Tomb raider game her classic HK USP Match pistols were explained to be custom made to have ejection ports on either side.
The ones Lara uses in this game are she just finds laying around an ancient ruin so probably not custom made for her.
Killzone would be cool to hear something about, I really like the Helghast Assault Rifle
According to Tomb Raider: Anniversary, Lara’s default pistols take the appearance of Colt M1911s, each with 20 round mags. But credit be due, Browning HPs do make more sense…
The OG pistols clearly have the HP slide cuts though, maybe they were confused back then.
@@Klovaneer Then again, Anniversary was technically a remake so…
Valkyria Chronicles, maybe? One of these days. Until then, I’m all for seeing Lara Croft’s arsenal being analyzed.
There are harpoon guns that can load multiple bolts though. The GoGun Scuba RInger loads two that can be shot before reloading. Granted, that was a recently release and I'm not sure if any multi-spear designs existed in 1996...
I loved how in the commentary for the anniversary version of TR1, they mention that when they made the original game they were really pleased because the game barely involves any killing of people, but now it's ironic in that people today would consider how much animal killing they included to be way worse XD
Because the terminally online treat fictional people like real people, and real people like fictional people.

@@TerribleResults but do you have Brozouf ?
I did notice the remaster added more current modern features to her guns which you wouldn’t see in the 90’s, that desert eagle was definitely the major standout for me. It was very clearly the L5 edition which is magnum research’s attempt to make a very shootable semiautomatic (.357 specifically) magnum, hence all the weight reducing cutouts, fluted barrel which you only see on the lower caliber magnums, and integrated muzzle brake that all the deagles seem to have these days. The guy from demolition ranch really loved it, said he hardly felt any recoil at all.
I was really hoping that for the duel magnums they would’ve given us a pair of LAR Grizzlys, just to give us some variety and the original magnums really look nothing like desert eagles. Whatever they’re supposed to be they have more of a classic John Browning design to them.
Or they could be Baby Eagles (Jericho 941)
"Pair of nicely rendered.." I didn't know where you were going with that for a second there, Johnathan..
Not that I disagree.
You forgot the magnums in TR 1.
They look like black Desert Eagles or Baby Eagles (Jericho 941).
High-rise scope mounts are an option in the firearms world, allowing the user to switch between their iron sights and optic instead of doing flip-up irons, offset irons, or co-witness.
Ingrams not so much, but somebody did make a mirror-image 1911, long ago; I remember seeing it in either _Gun Digest_ or _Shooter's Bible_ back in the day. I think it was called the "Portsider". Being left-handed, I thought it would be cool to have one, but they were really expensive and presumably pretty rare.
Nice video. The original game ran at 320x240 (or lower) and I think the over exaggerated recoil was to help for player readability at that low resolution. I think the same could be said for most of Lara's actions.
Lara's old model was made up of like 500 polygons at most. Her hands were just cubes. Plus the first Tomb Raider game was made for the Sega Saturn as well, which made the polygon numbers more limited.
I think the remasters did a good job overall. But I do not like the open magazine where you could see the bullets. I think the artists had to draw a line between keeping it kinda close to the originals, while giving everything an update.
PC had higher resolution option. But yeah, animations were done by hand and lead dev insisted that mocap wouldn't work with the precision they needed. Hence the grid system and exaggerated movements.
12:25
They should have kept that straight magazine as it is both a reference to the original model and the fact straight magazines for MP5s exist (MP5/10).
The civil servant in me froze for a sec on Johnathan's opening comment 😆
BLACK (2006) or any of the Ps2 SOCOM’s would be cool to see Jonathan discuss. Also Driver series would be fun going from the PS1 to Driver PL and seeing all the weird coolness.
02:07 "I've got you covered!"
You always do, Jonathan :)
hmm this would've made for a fun game where he has to guess which weapon it is based on the old model and then he can look at the new one and detail the differences
Oh, my God, these lions look *HIDEOUS!* And I love it! Man, I was so happy growing up with the Tomb Raider games. It's a real shame that dual wielding pistols in video games and movies is so much out of style these days :-(
Also: Please make a video about *Deus Ex: Mankind Divided's* guns! There's a lot to love there, I promise :-)
"super short pump action on that..." oh, you were talking about the shotgun
You forgot the magnum pistols but it's forgivable as they are essentially just 2 black 357 desert eagles
Konrad did a great job on Remaster all the weapon models for these games ❤
Yea they're awesome, good job. Though it seems they ran out of time since they reused the same shotgun and grenade launcher from TR2 to TR3, even though TR3 it's supposed to be a different shotgun and grenade launcher.
In the Playmates toyline, Scuba Lara was given two small Walter PPK style silver guns in addition to the spear gun.
Generation Zero has a wide variety of weapons from the 1980s. ((Game takes place in Sweden!))
I believe that the M16 in Tomb Raider 2 is currently the first listed videogame appearance of it on IMFDB. It must have appeared in earlier games, of course, but it seems the earliest game with a page and an M16 is TR2.
Tsk tsk, IMFDB. I distinctly remember using an m16 in the 1987 Predator game on my venerable old Atari ST.
@@peterclarke7006 There we go, good ten years earlier.
Well if you remember the original release of the game had the shotgun named the "rifle".
This man was (is) definitely a gamer that chose a career that involved something he's passionate about. That's cool.
The Dual Pistols are also mirrored.
Most people forget the rifles because they're towards the end of the game and few players ever finish most games.
Guess this is the closest we'll get to a look at PS1 firearms. Kinda hope Parasite Eve 1+2 get remastered for this kind of content.
PE2 has amazing real world weapons and I always wondered how accurate they were.
Parasite Eve is based on a Japanese novel. I've heard SE managed to totally alienate its author with Third Birthday and we'll never see such a remaster (at least until the author's estate is willing to agree to anything for money)
@@kanrakucheese I... can understand that, honestly.
They're all accurate except for the GunBlade and the Hypervelocity rail gun.
i never realized they actually drew Laras abs on her shirt in the original version. They definitely knew what they were going for.
Valkyria chronicles please
The first tomb raider was my childhood. Used to watch my dad play it for hours
This is gold. Would love to see Jonathan react to APB Reloaded's wonderful and vaguely wacky weapons.
Although likely difficult to examine, I’d love this series to examine the ranged weapons of Gundam Battle Operation 2 (which would essentially be examining the weapons of the UC timeline for the most part). I’d love to see Jonathan’s reaction to the Geera Zulu’s beam Machinegun, which is essentially an energy based, mecha STG-44. Also, Psyco Doga happens to have a weapon very reminiscent of the MP-44.
If a UC game was done, the Japanese 360 only Operation Troy would be the best option, since it's the only Gundam game I'm aware of with enough combined arms to use small arms.
Another day of asking Jonathan Ferguson, keeper of firearms and artillery at the Royal Armouries Museum in the UK, to do a video on the weapons in Homefront The Revolution.
I'd love to see Jonathan react to Receiver 2, the attention to detail in that game is insane
This was fascinating!
Those are some huge holsters, alright.
Jonathan should look at the guns of SAO Fatal Bullet and COD Advanced Warfare
Actually, just today I saw in the Maritime Museum in Athens (Piraeus) a speargun that seems tu use blank shotgun shells. So, Lara's spear gun without springs or rubber bands might be plausible, but not semiautomatic.
No mention of the ejection ports on the 9mm’s being on opposite sides of each gun.
Nice Max Payne reference with the MAC 10 shot
I'm interested in seeing the old game - Depth.
Divers vs. Sharks.
There are a lot of underwater weapons.
Try Depth
I'd love to hear Johnathan's thoughts on Easy Red 2.
Perfect Dark!!!
To give a bit more credit to Core Design, their weapons actually had more detail in the inventory. But for the game model, they reduced them to the bare minimum for obvious optimization purposes (and low resolutions would hide that)
I think the remastered grenade launcher may be modelled on shrunk down China Lake grenade launcher with sawed off stock.
HK69 would be the only grenade launcher with a pistol grip like that.
@@classicgameguides I think pistol grips in all weapons are due to dev limitations, they didn't bother to give her hands that look natural holding anything but 90 degree angle sticks. I mean in original game. It looked goofy when Lara held artifacts or books or typed on computer with those sharp fists.
The magazines on the m16 and automatic pistol reminds me of my Rossi 22 magazines
ive waited a week or well.. years to have jonathan react to the original mp5 in tomb raider and the new one... was not disappointed by his reaction - ex service member and h+k slap enjoyer/gamer here :D
forgott to show the shotgun in tr3 it is spas12, and tr2 was 97 not 96, tr3 was was 98 :)
Part of the reason why there are so many goons to shoot in TRII and beyond is that people complained about all of the animals being shot.
Absolute classics, love these games. Do you know what else I love? Criterion Games' 2006 "Black", would be nice to see Jonathan react to that game's weapons.
I bugs me the duel pistols are mirrored. Do they make that pistols with ejection port on the right side?
I think Jonathan would get a kick out of Day of Defeat (the original), considering the really high amount of detail for its time
10:45 This looks like GM-93/94 Grenade Launcher
Would be cool if he took a look on the original medal of honor guns.
Lara and cocking handles. Awesome.
I would like to see Jonathan reacting to the guns and other large weapons of Warframe
Would love to see him talk about the weapons of either the Killzone or F.e.a.r series
Please can you put a link to Jonathan's tshirts in the the description lol. I always notice how cool they are.
I recently picked up The Division 2 in the Ubisoft sale on steam would be cool to see a break down of some of the weapons in it
Man i love these vids. Would definitely love Jonathan to check out the guns from Resident Evil 5 and 6 if he hasn't already. i checked the list but might have missed it.
the developers of the remasters took some shortcuts, the granade launcher and shotguns in tr2 and tr3 had in the original different models, while in the remastered they are the same. The tr3 shotgun was a spas 12 and the granade launcher had a drum magazin but the loading animation was the same. The automatic pistols in tr2 are probably a mix from different guns and had no real world analog.
Feels like it's been enough time that game developers are taking this series into account and may even be introducing quirks into their guns so Jonathan will talk about them more.
would love to see a video on the weapons of squad 44
Just here to say I came to the Royal Armouries Museum today and it was fantastic and everyone should go.
SOLDIER OF FORTUNE!
Nice tips...
You don't know? Adding stripes to anything makes it faster. Especially red stripes. It's just physics!
One day I'd like to see Johnathan take a peek at the Tec-22 in the .22 pistol pack mod for fallout 4, one of the most accurate ones I've seen. neat little gun.
The innuendos. They slay. 😂
Have to laugh at how the muzzle flashes on the weapons all move with the tip of the barrel.
I would love to have him react to the weapons of Killzone 1. For example, the Helghast assault rifle is gorgeous but incredibly impractical.
red stripe down the gun means it's the GTI version, which means it's a bit faster and way more expensive to insure.
Those MAC 10s were actually quite faithfully rendered in 1996.
Jon should review the guns of Nikke ;)
Any chance you might do a video on the ps2 video game Black? It looks like itd be a great choice for a video especially considering how the gun models were so detailed for back then.
