I would love for Jonathan to do an episode on "Guns he wants to see in videogames"... almost like a backwards version. God knows he and Ian introduced hundreds of people to different weapons,, something specifically tailored would be cool!
Yes that sounds amazing. Stuff that is rarely seen in games or if at all yet.
That's actually a really good idea
That’s an amazing idea pls do this gamestop
That's a good idea.
Bumping this. Amazing idea
Love the fact that the gnasher is only lever action because the producers were tired of seeing pump actions in everything
Weird we don't do it more, honestly. If you're making up fantasy guns and the only purpose of the action is to look cool, lever action is a direct upgrade to pump action. 30% more clickity-clack AT LEAST.
@@Xick pumps are better and easier to maintain. But flip cocking is amazing.
I like that he doesn't keep his hand in the lever the whole time. He basically hands it to himself at the end of the reload and then rides it back into place on the spin. I'm guessing you'd be less likely to hurt your fingers that way
I always thought it was lever action since it would be harder to get Locust guts stuck in the mechanism since it’s farther away from the front.
I like the artistic approach to this episode. Stop motion animation is a rare sight these days.
Jonathan is going full artistic visionary 🫡
getting Max Headroom vibes from Jonathan's jerky video lol
This series has ensured that should I ever find myself across the pond, I will definitely be stopping by Leeds to see the museum
Me too
It's a really fantastic museum, lots to see and explore and they have seasonal events with different eras of firearms and weaponry on show, I highly recommend you visit
I said the same thing. Its something I am already interested in without being a fan of the channel. It looks like an amazing collection and I would love to see Jonathan across a room so I can point and nod at him. 😂
I have a Peace, Love and Hollow Points T-shirt I would like to gift him.
I would like to give one to Ian of forgotten weapons too.
If you're at all interested in arms and armour then it's 100% worth it. Hands down the best museum I've ever visited, the staff absolutely knock it out of the park.
The thing is, most tourists head straight for London, and Leeds is like 160ish miles and several notorious road systems north of London. You'd have to set aside a couple of days just for the travel back and forth from London. I live on the south coast of England, about an hour south of London, and it took me most of a day to drive up to Leeds when I was visiting friends up there.
That being said, as much as there is to do in London, you could easily have a great holiday just visiting the north of England. York isn't far from Leeds and that city is beautiful.
But yeah, visited Royal Armouries when I was up there, and it's awesome.
I enjoy the fact that Jon is not only reacting to these guns, but is also offering his view on it from experience because he himself has played these games in the past.
I'm surprised Jonathan didn't say anything about the fact that the Mulcher is hand cranked.
The first weapon like a machine gun which was a multi barreled weapon was hand cranked
The toque bow is actually a muzzle loading coilgun actually it uses a eath). The weapon's name comes from its unique tandem launch system; in addition to the magnetic coils giving the projectile motive force, the Torque Bow also uses a small motor to apply rotational force to the projectile - ergo increasing kinetic energy transferred to the target. The limbs on the top and bottom of the barrel control the tension of the motor and are what actually launches the bolt through the coil mechanism.
I'm both equally impressed and terrified you know this.......don't build a Torque Bow. That sound gives PTSD
@@mimmain2673 Its one of my passions to figure out how science fiction technology works.
I have built coilguns before, I made a model of the pillar of autumn that was a little over three meters long with a too scale MAC.
The torque bow isnt particularly high on my list of potential creations, but is on there
@supergodzilla3 absolutely impressive man, I wish you good luck......don't sell anything to the military though
You can really see the soft spot he has for this series and the weapons you use in it. Good stuff!
I think they didnt notice, because its something jonathan would comment on, the longshot's bolt switches side if youre firing it right handed or left handed
Same issue as Remnant 2, if I remember right. I wish games would stop with a side switch animation, and have bespoke left/right cover animations instead.
But how does it lock in when you fired? Is there like a hook on both sides to keep bolt locked in? That's a bit strange?
It makes sense that the Hammerburst became more Lancer-like as the war progressed. The Locust would use COG equipment and also repurpose it as much as possible, take design queues etc. Overall COG weaponry was much more advanced, effective and streamlined than the Locust's homegrown ad-hoc weaponry.
You can see it even by the events of GOW2, where the new and improved Hammerburst rifle ditched the burst-fire mode of the original for full auto (although very slow full auto at like 400rpm), include a recoil compensator/flash hider device on the tip of the barrel, aswell as include front and rear iron sights for precision aiming. It was basically a primitive attempt at mimicking the Lancer, which was full auto (faster ROF and easier to control), included a compensator attached to the barrel, and also used a red dot sight for aiming.
I've played Gears of War for over decade......I've used the Hammerburst once😊 and it was on accident, I thought it was Lancer ammo😂
15:26 That behemoth reminds me so much of the "Ranger Sequoia" from New Vegas. It's even the right caliber.
One of the coolest things about the newer Gears of War games was getting to see some UIR equipment instead of the same old COG or Locust stuff we've always had.
Weeeeel we saw some UIR Weapons on judgement.
@@corv538 I totally forgot we had access to UIR weapons in that game, I should go back and play it again sometime.
@@aviatorengineer3491 honestly it’s a fun campaign, people hated the game because of the multilayer ( me included lol)
@corv538 Never played the multiplayer myself but I didn't like the 'stars' scoring that couldn't be disabled in campaign (give us the option to have it at least!). The option to declassify missions and add different parameters was a nice addition though for the most part.
I hope Jonathan gets to analyze the guns from the Killzone franchise next!!!
Great idea
YES great idea man. Unfortunately this series is dead and gone, and not many people even still know about it..
@@MJ-mu3kb Shadowfall was a massive disappointment, but Killzone 2 is where the series peaked, Killzone 1 would've been better received if Sony didn't hype that game up as a "Halo Killer".
shadowfall had great multiplayer though, and reeled back in to the classic slower paced battles that Killzone 2 had. Aesthetics peaked during 2 though. @@gunnargunnarsson5963
Gaming nerd here just had to throw my two cents in about the lore, UIR is meant to be the equivalent of the SSR in the Gears world. The COG are most definitely supposed to be the U.S or the U.N. The Markza was retconed into being similar to the M1-Garand, when it was originally conceptualized in Judgment as the DMR for the UIR it was more like a Gewehr 43 or M-14 style rifle.
Would love to see Jonathan review weapons from Enlisted! Love seeing all the cool experimental and prototype guns featured in the game!
Jonathan was right on the money about the Markza being developed by a different nation. It was a weapon developed and used by the UIR, a faction with which the COG were at war for many years prior to the Locust's E-Day. They achieved an armistice only six weeks before the Locust emerged and began their genocide on humanity. It's really cool that even without knowing Gears' lore he was able to tell a difference there by the way it's designed!
Absolutely love both gears episodes, wonderful to see Jonathan is a fellow GOW fan. The wedding fun fact at the end was incredibly wholesome as well. Thanks for these episodes, gives me lots of nostalgia
I feel the Marzka thing is a play on what General Patton said "In my opinion, the M1 rifle is the greatest battle implement ever devised."
It would be fun if he could take a look at the weapons from Armored Core 6. I imagine the shotgun the size of a house would both amuse and terrify him.
Even better considering it's very recognizably a sized up version of a normal shotgun from our time
Jonathon wouldn't have trouble talking about "realism" of mecha, but I wonder if he'd speculate about their role in warfare. If there was a chill guy who was willing to talk about mecha without thumbing his nose at the whole idea, it'd be neat for a one-off video.
Well he is the keeper of firearms _and artillery,_ so it would still be up his alley
I really want to see this. Keeper of firearms AND ARTILLERY. After all.
There can be an explanation for the hammer burst changes, but throughout the series it did looked it was out of nowhere. But I think they were trying to retcon some things of the previous titles
I think it was because the Locust were getting their hands on COG tech and incorporating it. Which makes sense since we see the Cyclops in Gears 2 using Lancers.
@@sithknight7740 I think even in Gears of War 1 some locust have lancers. Even Gears Judgement.
This reminded me of something to do with our pal Jonathan. I was recently decided to finish watching Cunk on Earth(fantastic 10/10) when all of a sudden they began discussing firearms.
My ears perked up and I wondered if they would feature the Royal Armories. All of a sudden I saw a pair of gloves and a familiar sounding voice. Could it be? Yes it was! Jonathan Ferguson(Keeper of firearms and artillery at the Royal Armories Museum) had appeared before my vary eyes.
I excitedly exclaimed “I know that guy” to a rather mild reaction from the others in the room. Although they where not impressed, i very much enjoyed the unexpected appearance.
I would like to see Jonathan reacting to the weapons of Warframe
That would have to be a ten hour video l.
I think he's be awed and offended at how crazy some of the weapons are
@@StephenYuan That's a bad thing how?
It is pretty much a tradition to kind of torture poor Jonathan with some of the cursed guns from games (Tarkov, borderlands, etc.)
In particular i'd like to see his reaction to the space chauchat (the Soma (normal and or prime))
The overkill shotgun reminds me more of a DP-12 just with larger shells and for barrels rather than 2, but the style of firing two shots in rapid succession and multiple barrels is apparent in both weapons.
I’m pretty sure it’s a direct reference to Winchester Liberators. I found it really odd Jonathan didn’t say anything about them, but I’m just a gun nut who spends too much time looking at toys😂😂
I hope we get a part 3 where he checks out the Sawed Off Shotgun or the Hammer of Dawn, how cool would that be.
Hammer of Dawn ain't a gun, it's a targeting system. The gun part of it is in the sky. And I think Sawed-off is redundant to show cause he did Doom weapons a while back.
@@mimmain2673 I know that but I’d still like to see his opinion on the Hammer of Dawn and what he has to say about it and yeah maybe he doesn’t have to review the Sawed Off but I’m just giving a couple suggestions.
@solidxo239 okay I'll give my honest answer, I'm scared his going his opinion on the H.O.D and says:" It takes inspiration from this *points to some orbital weapon China made*." My heart is not ready for that.
@@mimmain2673 👀
Pushing as always for you guys to have Johnathan cover Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and to cover the M8 and MRI Caseless specifically as well.
Hey, Jonathan, how does your back feel now?
Considering you've been carrying this channel so hard
Jonathan is gonna love Armored core VI’s giant spas-12
My reasoning for the Hammerburst looking more like the Lancer in the later games: the new generation of Locusts got their hands on Cog weapons from the previous Locust War and reverse-engineered what they had, thus creating a new generation of the iconic firearm that's got its clear lineage to it
I thought he was just holding the revolver really close to the camera at 15:10, but that thing’s actually just massive
Jonathan should break down the weapons from *METAL GEAR SOLID 3* before the remake comes out.
So many weapons in MGS3 to react and comment on like the Patriot's infinite ammo magazine, the EZ tranq gun, Snake's customized officer M1911A1, Snake whittling the pistol grip to use a knife for CQC, Ocelot's SAA juggling skills, The End's paratrooper tranquilizer Mosin Nagant, the Davey Crockett recoil-less nuclear launcher and Eva's chinese mauser clone.
There are so many more other interesting trivias and weapons in MGS3
Emile with a gnasher is terrifying to think about
I really want to see Jonathan break down the guns from The Order 1886
There has to be a Part 2 to this, Gears have so many unique weapons like the Gorgon pistol that they can't all be seen and examine in one video.
You mean part 3. First one was on lancers
Would be great to see Jonathan react to Armoured Core 6 weapons, some of them certainly take inpiration from conventional real-life guns
At this point Johnathan can just make his own CZcams channel were he would play games and talk about them. He is such a geek, god, I love him! Also, lucky husband with a great wife playing Gears of War!
So what ur saying is u didnt watch the first 10 seconds of the video? Lol
Woh is that Joy Toy Space Marine and Death Korps figurine on Dave's shelf? Apparently Dave is a man of culture.
Johnathan should be made into a character in some shooter game for fun. Some sort of Quartermaster or something.
I love that the ammo icon is a en-bloc clip but no weapon uses a clip.
I've always thought the Locust weapons where looking closer to Mining Equipment.
Would love a part two to this: Hammer of Dawn, Digger, Claw, Scorcher, Gorgon. Huge arsenal in the Gears universe
Ah the defining game series of my childhood along with World at War and Black Ops 1 and 2. Great to see Jonathan reviewing GoW
I hope Jonathan gets a look at the Breechshot from Gears of War Judgement sometime since the Locust took a Markza and modified it
I have been wanting this for so long, i'm so happy its here i love gears of war and i love these videos.
First off, I love these videos. Secondly, I think you should get Jonathan and David Rawlings together to react to vermintide 1/2.
Getting to see some of the guns from the Arma 3 CDLCs would be a cool episode, we've seen the base game, but there's some very nice examples of a variety of weapons in the CDLCs, especially SOG: Prairie Fir, and Global Mobilisation.
8:25 this reminds me of the Buzz Blades and the Spiral of Death from the Ratchet & Clank series, which Jonathan should ABSOLUTELY react to!!!!!!!!!
I love Gears. One of my favorite series
15:09 big iron on his hip, big iron on his hip 🎵
I want to play Gears 1 with Jonathan. Not even talking about comparisons of in-game guns to real life guns or anything, just playing the game and talking about how cool it is. I feel like it would be a fun time.
it´s like watching an animated powerpoint
or Jonathan Headroom
"Watch the Master at work" ) Nice video and explanation, thanks!)
The shape and colour of the Markza reminded me of the classic Warhammer 40K Imperial Guard lasgun.
Jonathan is a Gears fan? He just boosted my respect for him even higher than i thought possible
Hooray, more of this dude :D I will always take a few minutes to listen to him dweeb out over stuff he's passionate about
You could totally do a video on Enlisted. With tons of ww1/ww2 weapons, would be interesting to see his reaction considering there is almost every different model of Thompson to geek out over.
I love how he didn’t even ATTEMPT to rationalize how the boom shot works
Smart man
The torque bow is actually some hybrid mechanical launcher/coilgun iirc. It initially starts moving the projectile by literally moving it with the gun's innards and then uses a series of high power magnetic coils to rapidly accelerate it the rest of the way. If you've ever dud-fired (don't charge it at all) one you'll see it just kinda limply eject the arrow a foot or two in front of you (which will then explode at your feet and make you the laughing stock of the entire match) because it only had the mechanical force of the initial launch behind it.
3:39 That's a Halo skin! It's my boy Emile.
I don't feel like I'm playing GoW until I find a Boltok. Glad you love it too!
Absolutely awesome!
Much as I love the Gears, the Boomshot made absolutely no sense. What was meant to be a single shot, pump action grenade launcher was modeled to look like a drum fed machinegun. I remember how confused I was encountering that weapon for the first time.
Also speaking of satisfying, getting a headshot with the torque bow or dropshots like a chefs kiss moment haha
His reaction to the quad barrelled shotgun makes me think of Bulletstorm, should do that game on this series at some point
If you guys are looking for more games, I have a couple of suggestions: any of the Unreal Tournament series, and Bungie's classic sleeper third person action game, Oni. But as always, Jonathan's commentary is a delight to see; I really look forward to these every week. Keep 'em coming!
Was hoping for this after seeing the Lancer video!
The torque bow appears to have two sets of connecting rods but it still doesn't make much sense as you'd want the "launch" ones connected at the tips for the best leverage.
The trick behind the overkill is holding the trigger when you fire. You control it's spread. Very small spread that way
4:28 that actually reminds me of The 4th Horseman from Destiny 2, its a quad barrel full auto shotgun
I'd be so happy to see you guys do the qeapons from Resistance series
it could be that the toque bow is fired by air pressure. As the pistons contract, a chamber gets increased air pressure, and on release, the chamber opens behind the bolt, firing it forward. the only issue with this idea is i don't know what is compacting the pistons with enough force to increase that air pressure and hold it.
i could see a bolt action railgun/coilgun being a thing in a sci-fi shooter, as there isn't any gas to cycle a conventional action and you'd want your spare ammo not in immediate proximity to the magnetic fields when the weapon fires. so having the magazine a bit behind where the magnets would 'grab' and having a manual bolt to load ammo into the chamber would make sense.
the rate of fire probably wouldn't really be hindered ether, as there isn't any pressure to contain the bolt wouldn't have to lock and wouldn't need to be exceptionally strong, and the capacitor would need a short time to build a full charge as well.
I think the torque bow works by pulling the first set of arms back and down wich those are connected to one another to a point where when the trigger is pulled and the arms are released the pistons right behind those arms force them forward fast enough that when they impact the back of the projectile it transfers all momentum and primes the explosive charge within that "arrow" at the same time yeeting that thing at various speeds based on how long ya hold the trigger before releasing
I think when it comes to the Torque Bow, now I'm not 100% on this so it may be false, but i believe those pistons while priming connect pressure to a small pushing mechanism inside the barrel, so when it's reloaded, the guy pushes it back so when the pistons fold down, they prime pressure to push the next bolt back out with great force. Like a crossbow only more mechanized. Given the size of the bolt, compared to the barrel, I'd guess there's a build up in pressure from the pistons, all that pressure is forced behind the bolt's release, and that's probably why it can't handle the pressure long.
The boltok, going the IRL props made by a company, is a .70 Caliber Revolver, MArcus Vance shows one off and you can see how massive the rounds could be.
Do you plan on doing the 'finishing moves' of each weapon? I'd like to see your rating on that too as the Torque Bow one is seriously crazy
So the torque bow is interesting, when you put the bolt into the chamber it’s locked in. Then when you are ready to fire can you pull and hold the trigger the mechanism on the arms pull back while pulling the bolt deeper into the chamber or barrel closer to the launching platform inside the chamber. So as the arms pull the bolt goes deeper. The closer the bolt is to the launching platform inside the gun the further it launches. It’s hard to explain with words but if I could draw a diagram you would know exactly what I’m trying to show you.
The gnasher firing 6 rounds is interesting. Even #000 still can fit 8 in a 12 gauge. There could be reasons it's only firing 6 though, from a slightly larger pellet to a different sized shell not allowing for efficient packing of the pellets. I know I used to be able to pick up buckshots in 16 gauge a lot easier, but staggering them really doesn't work out as well as it could, so when you do find 16 gauge on the shelves it's small game/bird and slugs.
And my Sunday down under is complete. Can't finish the weekend without Firearms Expert Reacts. Top notch, Mr. Ferguson.
Any plans to revisit Far Cry? Far Cry 4 has some signature weapons that would be worth a look.
The Mulcher doesn't actually seems to be a gatling gun, as it only has single barrel, and the spinning part around it looks like some sort of stabilizer?
The Torque bow required skill and the payoff was awesome. One of the best designed weapons in gaming.
Jonathan has my dream job ❤️
Hey Jonathan the Buzzsaw was already done by Joerg over at the Slingshot Channel.
I would love for this man to do a segment on the warhammer 40k Ordo Hereticus armory.
On the torque bow, maybe a compressed air weapon? The arms of the bow compress the air up to the full capacity of the internal cylinder. Once that’s expelled they go back to the home position.
Reading up on the lore it seems it's a rail/coilgun
Longshot is my favourite, its a must pick for almost every mission for me
I would like to see Jonathan react to Receiver 2 weapons, it would be super interesting to see him disect the realistic handling of the weapons in this game!
In the Longshot, is it me or the bolt switches side depending on the position of the camera? Great series by the way!
All the weapons do that when they are used left handed.
Yeah, all gears weapons are ambidextrous
I love this series
I'm so glad I wasn't the only one who thought of Dennis the menace 😂
Been waiting for gears of war for so long
Would love to see more vr guns like breachers or into the radius
YEAAAAAAH BABY THATS WHAT IVE BEEN WAITING FOR
I hav nvr been to a museum in my life, but if Johnathan is giving the tours at his I'd pay good money to go on one at his museum. Also what he said about the boomshot is how I feel about it, you'll just be fighting locust drones and here, "boom", and you know a grenade is going to come flying at you from somewhere.
I never noticed that the charging handle on the long flips to the other side when you're character is holding it off handed
Got to love it when we get a Hellboy reference...
The 1st shotgun (Gnasher, 'GoW') reminds a lot of the 'Doom 3' shotgun.
I know it doesn't make sense timeline wise, but I now want Hellboy set in Wild West.
Have you heard of West of Dead?
I'm curious what's going on with the wiggly smoke trails when firing the boltok revolver... is it firing some kind of gyrojet-style rocket projectile?
Can we get Jonathan a not laggy cam, sorry it sometimes bothers me too much despite the great content that I always look forward to!
It's possible that Buzzsaw was inspired by the Ripper from UT1999.
Also the Ripper from Deadspace :).
@@CobaltMilsim Remastered version perhaps. The original's didn't have that option.
@@Gaz918 ahh fair enough, didn't realise that.
