- Super Mario Maker 2 has a lot of different tools that you can use to make your levels look nicer. One of my personal favorites in mario maker 1 and 2 are the semisolid platforms. These semisolids are great for making backgrounds and platforms in your mario maker 2 levels. Since I just hit 50K subs I thought it'd be a good idea to make this semisolid rankings video since you all have wanted it since november. So join me as I rank all 141 semi-solids in super mario maker 2!

They seriously need more backgrounds.
Some examples are more semisolids in the 3D World Style and backgrounds that are purely background and you can't stand on them.

Semisolids are the freakin best, I use them in practically all of my levels, mostly for decoration.
Sometimes, I even choose a certain level theme. Based entirely on how good the semisolids look!

15:47 it's in the sky theme because the "athletic" levels in SMB1 had platforms that looked a lot like those semi solids. And Sky levels in Mario Maker are meant to be like "athletic" levels of old.
I've always been so intrigued by the level type names in old Mario games. The term "athletic levels" or "athletic bgm" is just so curious to me.

I think they're named like that because they were usually the most challenging levels. You'd have to jump and move around a lot on falling platforms and other obstacles, so I guess that made them "athletic"

Kinda sorta a little fun fact: I played the level at 31:57 in Multiplayer Versus and somehow everybody in the match pushed me through the bumper into the area that you can’t go into in single player.

I actually like the green grass semisolid in SMB1 Sky Theme. It makes it feel more like a mystical island out of Mario 64 rather than just "cloud place". The mix with the grey castles also makes it feel really nice. It honestly gives me the vibes of Magicant from Mother 1 if anyone else has played that game.

If you don't like the fortress semisolid in SMB Sky, just put a second one over it and change the front one's type to the pillars. Doing that eliminates the windows to an extent (that being the extent of the pillar semisolid)

I think a good purpose for the Sky Tree semi-solid in Mario Bros is to make it look like there are trees growing up to the clouds
the reason why, is hecause it was in the original game, in the sky theme. just play/watch Super Mario Bros W1-3

15:49 i think it was put in the sky theme as a sort of similarity to how some of the levels in SMB1 (like 1-3) are more of like athletic/sky levels, so i think it makes sense why the sky theme got the tree semi-solid as well

There's a way to remove the windows on the castle semi-solids in Mario Bros 1. Just use the castle pillars and place them over the castle semi-solids.

They look like steam hot trash and I can not contemplate why and how they thought they looked good as sort of 3D.
I assume your talking about the Mario 3 semisolids, in which case I respectfully disagree. I kind of like the way they look. Of course, everybody is entitled to their own opinion, so you can think whatever you want.

In a lot of the “sky” levels in the original Super Mario Bros. from 1985, they used that semisolid that gets reused from the ground theme. but back then you couldn’t hop from under the platform to get on top

YES YES YES! THANK YOU! Now this is my jam, I love this! As a recoqnized semisolid "spammer", I truly appreciate this. There's so much one can do with the semisolids, from simple platforms to houses to castles to chatedrals, bridges, fountais, trees and so on!
And with that, my favorite semisolids are from the SMB3 Ghosthouse and Sky themes. They're so versatile when used with a little bit of creativity, haha! Cheers! :-)
17:00 you can stack the pillar semisolid on top of it. The pillars will cover up the windows completely.
About those "crate" semi-solids, both Airship and Castle one in 4:15 , they're not bad imo. In both cases they can used to make i.e. Warehouse section or trucks loaded with some stuff (in Castles case) or Cargo Airships (well, in Airships case).

At 15:50 it isn't lazy and it does make sense. World 1-3 was sky theme and had those platforms everywhere in the original Super Mario Bros 1.

About the windowed castle semisolid, if you put the other castle semisolid on top, but make it 2 blocks shorter, you can successfully hide the windows.

Great list! But what about the mushroom platforms? They dont have many variants, but I feel like you could have done a bonus ranking where you rank all the mushroom platforms, and maybe even the bridges. Great vid nonetheless.

Such a simple ranking video but man is it good!
I was inspired and made 2 quite neat levels in smm2.
First: A fresh start: it's meant to be a starting level In the smb style, with an emphasis on slopes and altitude, with underground and a little challenge, some secrets and a finale of jumping trough cliffs and a bonus if you bypass the pole.
Second: Dangerous crossing: this one in sm3dw main gimmick/emphasis being rising lava and cat suit, in this level is quite barren, no enemies nor coins except a little bonus, but for a good reason, the ENTIRE level gets covered in lava with high tides, and you are gonna need the cat suit to survive, I put element about cat Mario that will help you survive and little obstacles, when you come to the clear pipes, there is a challenge for 3 1ups, and then culminating in the end with a challenge were you use all the techniques and face the previous obstacles in a vertical sub area, and I used the 3d world castle because I'm also making a world and if fits being on the main castle's outskirts,
I'm saying this instead of giving you the levels is, I don't have online and if I tried, the pandemic will definitely syphon our family budget into more important stuff, yeah a bummer.

For the semisolid platform in smb1 sky( the castle one) you can put pillars platform on top of it to hide the windows. I used this in level one time
