"To be so completely myself". What a wonderful statement by Nina Simone! In saying so she reminds me that I must not hesitate to do so. I had a really bad day at work today. And hearing her say these words just brings tears to my eyes as all the pieces of my puzzle come together.
This is Nina Simone who truly was herself….Nina Simone. Eunice the true woman struggled being herself. She was abused and hurt through her life and had many pains and hardships. You see one of her sides; Nina. Her real self was fighting her demons and rarely showed that side. She deserves to be recognized for Eunice just as much as Nina. Eunice was the soul and life, Nina was the outlet and voice. Two personas, one person, Eunice forgotten. We need to recognize Eunice more so.
She was definitely herself, spoke and sang her own words and balanced her "shadow" side with her "light" side with no apologies necessary! Very inspiring she is!
I love this woman, her strength and her soul. My son just heard me playing this clip and said that's Nina Simone. He's heard her singing in our house his whole life. He's payed enough attention to recognize her voice talking and I love it.
I'm glad I just randomly stumbled across one of her songs. She was a very gifted singer, and she was proud to be her authentic self and stand up for what she believed was right. I admire the hell out of those qualities.
