- Time to give the GT4 back and collect my Abarth 124 spider. The Abarth 124 spider is definitely nothing like the the GT4 but it is cheap and cheerful to run. Its also great fun to drive a slow car fast and because the abarth 124 spider is cheap to run it gives you so much fun for the money you pay for it!

True, most fun I've had was with my first car, Fiat Panda 100hp. Litle horsepower means you're constantly on the limit without actually breaking the limit, now that's fun. 👍
👏👏
Agree entirely, and it's nice to hear a CZcamsr talk sense rather than just promote fantasy. Been there myself too. I bought a new Cayman back in 2006 intending to keep it forever, but after 11 years of thoroughly enjoying it, I started finding it frustrating , like owning a greyhound but never being able to let if off the leash. I sold it and bought a new 1.5 MX5, a car in which I can actually use the throttle and the revs without so much fear of losing my licence. Sometimes less is more!
Interesting feedback thx for sharing! I cant decide what to buy as a week end car to enjoy driving at ita best.
Great content. I completely agree that "The Abarth 124 is all the car you will ever need". The GT4 is amazing, but lacks the full engagement and fun on the public roads you get from your gorgeous afordable Abarth 124. You can't take the roof down on a winters day for a start 😂
😂😂😂 yeah roof down all the time
Great vid Stef, at the end of the day it's all about priorities. I prefer an Abarth and a house in a Greek island Vs a Porsche GT4. If I was 50 with all finances shorted and available cash for fun, the GT4 would be great addition to my collection. Enjoy the rest of the lockdown :)
Thank you buddy. Well said!
Had one of these in Tenerife driving the volcano roads, amazing fun and because the roads were so tight and twisty it was all the power you needed.
"its better to drive a slow [special] car fast than it is to drive a fast car slow" Could not agree with this sentiment more. Its for this reason that my first car was a Alfa 105 series 2000 Gtv. The fact it appreciated in value was a very nice bonus.
Yeah I think we are in a world where performance cars make it difficult to properly enjoy them on Uk roads. Slower car fast like the 124 is brilliants get all the splints, fun factor, gear changes without losing your license lol! I bet the GTV is fun!
@@StefABtv it certainly was! I did sell it and bought a Delta Integrale EVO 2, which is also super fun to drive on British A and B roads. :-)
Driving a slow car fast will always be better. Have enjoyed the GT4 vids mate. Hope you get the chance to drive the new GT3 when it drops. Stay safe ✌🏻
Thanks buddy. Me too! Need to beg Porsche for that :)
GT4 is slow for a Porsche, but it' hard suspension will have you focusing more on your butt and the rest your body than the car and road itself.
@@cthis4786 slow ? What’s fast for a p car?
@@aljohn6803 Anything else with a turbo. Even a Cayman S is faster than a GT4
@@cthis4786 Lol around a track a cayman s is faster ? I think your missing the point of the gt4 - and 4.2 to 60!I think most would consider fast
They don’t even make the 124 Spiders anymore, makes it more of an exotic than any Porsche of the moment 😊
I love my Abarth 142 spider purchased it at age 21 still got it now 23 had a new head gasket but a beast of a rear wheel drive car for the London roads
Thanks so much for another great vid! Regarding the Abarth's practacility you can always do what I did: Buy and mount a luggage rack onto the boot lid. I found a matte black painted aluminum one that's looking quite fine on my 124. Me and my partner go for 1 week long trips in it and it works fine. Cheers
Defo an option! Thanks for watching! :)
I totally agree; a couple of years ago I rented a 124 Spider for a week and drove it in the Alps. It was fantastic and especially in the mountains the lightweight was noticeable. And the sound ... just wow
Awesome cars aren’t they
Hey there! Loved your video 😁 I was hard pressed between the 124 or an s2000 and I think I've come to the decision of 124, I currently drive a 500 abarth so the switch makes sense and something about the styling of this car feels weirdly fresh. Keep it up !
Couldn't agree more, Stef. I have an MX5 ND 1.5, running costs are cheap, but its lots of fun.Not in fear of issues costing a fortune. Only took me 35 years of driving and too much money over the years, to find a motoring sweetspot.....!
Awesome having the sweet spot isn’t it. Save so much more money too lol
You are doing right. The Porsche is a great Sportscar, but can´t beat the ABARTH . Comparing to all facts the 124 make much more fun and bring us back to the basics of fun driving. This is pure pleasure from a wonderful forgotten planet and it will never come back.
Loving the videos Stef! You have definitely got your pep back 😁
Cant wait for the next video - need to convince management that this car is just about practical enough to justify.
Would also be great to see one about the options on the boot racks and whether they are any good
🙌🙌 cheers man
I have to say the cost of the car is not always an indicator of how much you'll love a car and CARE for a car.. - Love the videos Stef!
Thats exactly why I got myselfe a 2016
124 Abarth for x-mas..🤩.
..can't wait to drive it..
Brilliant fun! Love mine
I think you have a good point. To get the max out of the Porsche you are drinving like a hooligan....it will cost you your driving license or get a huge crash because the other traffic isn't expecting you to go sooo fast. But the looks of the P makes me fall in love ......tough.
Stunning car the GT4. Love it and you don’t have to drive it like a nutter all the time I guess 😂
Can’t wait to hear the 124 with the TMC sport cat and cross pipe!
Incoming ;)
Boot space is enough if you travel light, and if you are going in the summer not a problem as it's lightweight clothes for hotter climes. Wife and I did a two week road trip to Germany in the Spider at start of October so needed to pack clothes for all weathers, and my wife likes her clothes! Get soft fabric holdalls and you'll be amazed at just how much clothing you can stuff in the boot!
Hi -love your videos and content - absolutely love the abarth 124 and so glad you have one so I can see what you think! Keep the content coming - you’re so close to the way I think about things it’s great! Thanks for the content! 👍
I should add I have literally just bought (yet to collect) an f type r awd but I still find myself wanting a 124 abarth because I’m a car nut like you ha ha 👍
So true Stef, I've done dozens of track days over many years, and 95% of cars are under 15k, Clios, Mx5, Mini, etc. I have used Saabs Honda Rs even an E63 once, but mainly my Abarth witch I've owned for cumming up to five years, all these you can use 100% ( 60% E63 terrifying ) on a track day with a bloody great grin.
Absolutely mate! You can push the Abarth 100% for sure!
Great Video, very good advice, I did like you and got rid of my M2 and have 3 cars I own outright but a lot cheaper cars and I love them, have a Yaris GR on order due March and wonder if I’m doing the right thing with it as I’ll have to finance it, don’t really want to have to sell my other car as well, it won’t stretch me but I’m used to not having to pay out monthly for a car which is such a great feeling, really like the new better advice videos than promoting scary stretch yourself goals ! 👍👍
Thanks mate. Oh a Yaris GR will be mega fun! It should be very reasonable on the monthly payments but if you haven’t had monthly payments for a while it will be a shock to the system lol
Stef, check out the custom luggage available for the 124; maximizes the available space.
Will have a look mate 🙌
To each their own. I still much prefer a very fast car for those 3-5 seconds that I can go all out in it. Not practical, but I like the feeling of getting pushed back into the seat.
Good video Stef as always and your honest opinion is valid. The trip to Europe may be some time away so just have fun in the Arbarth till such time as you can go but who knows maybe one of the car companies might lend you a bigger car because where will Rollo go?👍👍👍
Haha yep we do need to think of Rollo for future trips I think 😂
Another great video. Shame the GT4 had to go back and what a car park line up at Porsche! You are spot on with your comparison in relation to your 124 and the GT4. All paid off, running costs and loved the analogy about driving a slow car fast. Now if only they could shoehorn the Quadrifoglio engine in the 124! Keep producing the great content., looking forward to the next one.
Thank m you so much! Yep a QV engine in the 124 would be bonkers haha. So would the 1.75 4C engine :)
Yes! I had a 505 hp Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio and I have a 1971 60 hp Triumph Spitfire and the Spitfire is far more enjoyable because you can have fun at normal speeds.
Totally agree about fun vs bhp. One of the best cars I’ve ever had was the X1/9 - 85bhp, handled brilliantly, boot front and back and boy did that little fire cracker love being revved around the dial. Also unlike driving my Z4 coupe, much as I love it, there is always some ass up your chuff trying to remove you from the road, didn’t get any of that grief with the Abarth I had before 😁
Bet that was super fun!!!
I think the space isn't to much of an issue. If needed u can attache a luggage rack(I dont know if this is even a word, google translate got it for me) The main problem is the maximum weight, i think u can load about 190kg so about 15kg of luggage per passenger, less then on a regular flight
I feel the same way about my Audi TT quattro roadster as you do about the 124. I have been lucky enough to own three Porsche Boxsters but they are now out of my price range for the model that I would like and the TT in four wheel drive form is a good car albeit not as exciting to drive as the Porsche
Driven porsches ferraris (not owned) by far the most fun is my abarth 124 . Even after 3 yrs I get a thrill just going to local supermarket. Also love its simplicity
"Lifestyle inflation" is a brilliant term. Resisting that is why I have my 500 Abarth for seven years. And yes, no payment book.
Bye bye GT4 loved it, at least you didn't wrap it round a tree in the snow. Still love the 124 and it's got an LSD , sounds fab too and it's all yours, and you could fit coloured seatbelts..... what's not to love.
Haha yep got it back in one piece 😂😂
That would be cool if Porsche waved their magic on a 124 frame...cram some 4 banger Macan stuff in there, put the trans at the diff, and give it a foot of hips. Somebody get their drawring tablet out to render more than I'm imagining...
Would be mega, they already have the boxster as their roadster a front engine one would be interesting
I love the Abarth. I saw one at the dealers in Kings Lynn which is the only other one I have seen.
Not many of them around especially with the Visibility pack and Bose sounds
I loved what you said..... Yes Porsche is beautiful and fast. But (and maybe I'm just getting old) I see no point and use of fast car in the UK. I drive my 595 for living. And poor girl is no longer showcase one. And I know I am wrecking the car to the grave. Especially on bad state of local roads. But I will still have fun (and 0 points on license) with her until she will fall apart.
981 GT4 is the Best Cayman to buy and own, nice.
👏👏
An Abarth is not a Porsche, but it's a fun car, and it's more affordable.
There are car that you want to drive at least one time just to know how it is, and cars that you want to drive and own, because they are perfect cars to drive and enjoy everyday.
🙌🙌🙌
I have done a road trip in our Abarth 124 from leicester to amalfi with my wife and we were fine for luggage space
Awesome! Will need my wife to learn to pack light 😂😂😂
@@StefABtv 😁brave man. My wife took “only” 4 pairs of shoes.! To be fair the boot was so tightly packed with soft bags that a cockroach would have asphyxiated in there
Revo Luggage rear boot rack. You can carry another 70L.
You’ve definitely got your head screwed on Stef. I am beginning to think if I bought a 70k car I’d quickly regret it because of the use-ability factor. But that’s me, I’d have to scrape together my life savings and embroil myself in more debt for another few years, if you had enough money not to bat an eyelid at a purchase like this maybe then you wouldn’t be too worried. At the end of the day, they are bought for a few reasons - to satisfy an urge, bragging rights, just to know you’ve worked hard and you’ve bought something nice that you like. But I think actual drive-ability must feature fairly low, because you can barely use half throttle for a few seconds without pant changing moments on British roads in British weather! That’s true not just this time of year but most of the time as they’re usually full of pot holes and soaking wet!
Thank you mate. Yep very good points you make!
Great Video
Theres one big reason why the Abarth 124 Spider is more interesting than that Porsche - And that is Obtainability! Awesome video as always Stef! 👍
Thanks man
It definitely is a great handling car for sure and looks better at every angle compared to the ND MX5. As an owner of a 2020 Fiat 124 Spider Urbana in manual, she is sure a playful little runabout... Driving it decently hard from a standstill is less than satisfying but once you get in the sweet spot, the car sure loves to dance. The Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram dealerships in the USA are beginning to drop the Fiat studios. Great car but not quite sure if I will be keeping her for years to come.
Just bought a 2018 one today hope it holds up
Abarth 124 Spider and a Giulia 2.0 Veloce - perfect combo. Think you should revisit the Giulia Veloce - realise not many people interested but would make a great base to modify but not viable for YT I know. Shame
Sold my 718 GT4MR earlier this year, great great car, can't drive the car anywhere, with a second gear extending into 85mph it's just stupid on public road.
Stef did you know you can get luggage that is designed to perfectly fill that boot? Just a thought for your road trip.
Thanks buddy. I didn’t know but my practicality video I will release soon showed how much I can get in the boot. Very surprised!
@@StefABtv yeah when I had mine and you pack right can get a lot in. Even when going away for a week or doing weekly shopping.
Great video !
Thanks!
The spider looks awesome 🤛🏻
Thank you! 🙌🙌 hope you are good!
@@StefABtv you’re welcome 😊 and yeah I’m doing good thanks, just feels like a slower pace of life since Covid but I kinda like it to be honest 😁
I envy you for the Abarth, that car is lit! Now they only reroll every friggin year the 500 Abarth, annoying af....bring back a Punto Abarth *cry*
Yeah love the 124. It’s such a mega Platform
I've been in the market for one of these and was wondering what type of fuel you put in it. I know the owner manual states that the car should receive premium, but can it take regular. Furthermore, I think the car has a knock sensor which changes the timing of the ignition caused by the difference in the fuel quality. Still, I would like to eliminate knocking altogether to preserve the engine.
Who needs a lot of clothes when going to travel towards the sun....
Keep trying to tell the mrs that 😂😂😂
@@StefABtv Been twice with a Fiat Uno Turbo to Italy.......once a small fridge on the back seat but hey, when you got the space might as well use it!
Get your hands on a 5 speed 2.7 Boxster/Cayman - from around 2006. With good rubber they are a great drive.
@Blackporsche roadster I’ve done over 250k miles on 986 and 170k on 987 models. Only once have I been let down by a failed water pump. I would say that servicing isn’t cheap but for driving in the mountains of France, Spain and Andorra they are a blast !
@Blackporsche roadster RS60 was a gorgeous looking car with that spec.
Hope they have a Taycan in a decent colour for you. Some of the latest are hideous to the point I'm starting to think Porsche don't actually want to sell any.
We got a black one :)
How tall are you? My only issue with these cars (mx5) is that at 6'5 I won't find a comfortable position. Otherwise excellent choice.
6.1
Could you explain about the driving experience in a Abarth 124 spider vs a Mazda Miata?
Haven’t driven the mx5 but is the same chassis. Should feel similar just different engines
I think the abarth feels more special also because of how uncommon they are, i have only seen 2 and they were both non-abarth
Defo not many of the 124’s about
So you haven't seen any then!?!
@@benny_mc I’ve seen 2 Fiat 124’s OTR and one abarth in a car park
Me and MsOctane have done 2 week getaways in the A124 and the luggage was not an issue......just do not go and visit any wineries
😂😂😂
Hey mate, don’t they spread salt on the roads in the winter where you’re from, and if they do, wouldn’t these fancy cars be stored till spring?
They do indeed and some will store them but I prefer to drive them 😂
How did you get Apple CarPlay enabled on the fiat?
That GT4 spec was amazing 😍🤤
It was brilliant
Most fun you can have under 20.000 pounds, the arbath spyder.
Mega car mate
Yeah a base boxster and cayman are unrated for just fun
My 981 GT4 is an absolute keeper. I never had a car before that provides so much pleasure. Perfect sweet spot for public roads. And there is no „however“, sorry.
Defo keep that thing!
Second hand boxster???
hey dude! It was a very disruptive video! congrats!
Should have got a manual m140i 😉 that’s what I want as my next car
Each to their own, but them 140i’s are everywhere they’re like shit in a field.
@@Jamie7ee I’m sure they have some faults but I doubt they’re as bad as you’re making out
Great cars the m140’s what Jamie means is there are so many of them as bmw sold so many not that they have faults
@@SChapps oh god yeah they’re wicked cars, can’t go wrong with a bmw I love them all the same! But yeah it’s like the golf r, it’s just a go to car 👍🏻
@@Jamie7ee oh I get you now, yeah I know there’s a lot of them but that’s why they’re such good value now though! Honestly wouldn’t bother me at all, there’s barely any of them in my area and it’s a rear wheel drive hatchback with bmw straight 6. Completely different to its competition. The new 1 series is quite honestly pathetic in comparison and is basically just another Golf R
For extra space for travelling try “Boot-bag” affordable solution and well made .
How about a little car care?
"..so much fun for the money.." Totally agree. In todays world (especially here in Australia where high speeding is a worse offence than raping a child) I sold my modded mint Porsche 928 GT and kept a 10yo R56 Cooper S. It simply is more fun and cheaper in everything and quicker in some places and it's affordable enough to visit a hedge plus people wave at the Mini and smile where as in the Porsche they sneer and think you're a wanker.
Visit a hedge 😂😂😂👏
Get a trunk rack.
Yeah fucking right "bye bye GT4"
U click baited me just to see that you have a GT4 😔😔
If you saw the previous 3 videos you would have understood. No one else thought clickbait
You mention the word "cheap" multiple times in your video and in the description. ha ha ha You've become obsessed with increasing savings etc. You will never view automobiles the same for the rest of your life. Be careful, cheapness is a disease. It overcomes logic and will ruin your perspective on life for the rest of your life.
Haha defo not obsessed and you only live once. Just don’t want to jump too far ahead and buy something that is too far out of reach. Would rather save money to have cheaper monthly’s or buy a car outright :)
@@StefABtv Stef, I hear you. No worries, I like your channel and your Abarth convertible. Just hoping you won't do like all of my friends have done. Drive 20 year old cars because they are too cheap to buy something new. ha ha They are all wealthy, but drive crap and suffer with breakdowns etc. Cheapness becomes a disease. I am not kidding. Stay safe buddy! I will keep supporting your channel from San Francisco California USA!
Taycan 🤮🤮🤮🤢🤢
Right conclusion the 124 has a purity to it.....which does Rolo prefer ?
Neither lol he likes the A1 so he can lay down across the whole of the back seat 😂😂
