- This video is about finishing up small grain and other Sunday farm stuff.
Hi, I’m Organic Dairy Farmer from Northeast South Dakota. I farm with my younger brother & we milk 50 cows. We are a 3rd generation family farm that farms 326 acres in which we raise corn, oats, alfalfa, soybeans plus we do rotational grazing with our milk cows.
We have been a certified organic dairy since November of 2006 & we take a lot of pride in what we do & strive to produce the highest quality products that we can.
I hope I can teach you a little bit of something about organic farming also in process maybe have a little fun along the way. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box!

At least rain will break the crust so oats will pop. Your trees have that nice spring green. Your 6 to 7 weeks behind us in South Jersey. Cover crops sucked my ground so dry can't till it.
I needed to plant beans today...didnt get em in 😯
Oh shucks! 😢
Just curious as to what variety of oats you are planting. Interesting to know......great video! A lot of farmers in eastern SD are in the same "boat". Excuse the pun......hope everything improves and the year gets better.
I think the variety is called Troy.
I don't know how many times you mentioned at every single video that you do you gonna move manure and you never do I wish you'd complain just a little bit last but I still like your videos
Setting here watching on my phone with no power. We had another storm blow though 1.1" of rain with about 4" the last week. At this point don't think I am planting corn and will have to see about beans. I'm considering a cover crop for weed control and hay. Will see. Nobody has planted anything in our area this year.
Wow! Nobody’s planted anything in ur area?! This one spring for the record books. Not anyone will want to remember it. Lol.
Do u take calves away from the cow as soon as they are born🤔 we used to leave them 48hrs, but always thought easier to get them to drink from a bucket if u took them away sooner 🤔
Yes we do take them away as soon as the cow gets done licking them off.
Nice sz heifer calf
Could do without rain for a month. Not good.
Alfalfa looked fantastic. Did the spots that got killed out and you reseeded catch? Keep up the good work
Thanks! Yes the did catch.
When do you plant corn?
Hopefully late next week. Still half finish hauling manure & get fertilizer spread yet. We smart enough this year to get low maturity corn.
Hopefully you can invest in some front duals for that TG if it works out... unbelievable how much more traction and flotation they'll provide. It is your largest tractor now I take it?
Yes it’s our largest tractor now. I talked to the mechanic about putting duals on the front end and he seem concerned about it being to hard on the front end. Maybe it would be fine and he’s just being cautious.
@@organicpaulguy it does put more strain from turning... the front drive shaft ujoints went out on ours a couple years ago. We have it set so it doesn't turn very sharp at all, but wouldn't have it any other way with what it has gotten us out of lol.
I hear you. An extra set of wheels makes all the difference. Maybe we will check into it. It would be nice in certain conditions to have.
