- Bought this motor for 50 dollars not to long ago. I have not done anything to it other than making sure lower unit seals are good, change the LU oil and buy new spark plugs for it. This video was a Cold start and the motor had been sitting for about a day. Starts and runs very easy as you can see! It's a E8RCSS model and that indicates it was built in 1980. In over all good shape for being 36 years old.

Thanks for this video. I got the same motor along with a 12' aluminum rowboat from my neighbor and want to test the engine for first time.I am new to boating. After test running it, what do I need to do before putting the engine away?
Also, I bought a 6 gallon tank, would like opinion if it is too big, and inconvenient. Plan to use boat for short rides.
Hello! 6 gallon tank is great! After you have run the engine, it's a good idea to start it in a bucked (like in the video) if you've used it in salt water. Salt water will corrode your engine if not.
I also have this same year motor on a 12 ft Jon Boat. After running I disconnect the fuel line and run the float bowl dry then try to start it again and get the last drops of fuel out so that it cannot gum up. Stars 2nd or 3rd pull every time.
I have the same motor yes 50-1 mix and you need water pump impeller before you fry that motor. no water coming from pisser hole is dead give away
It was pumping water totally fine and impeller was not old! I sold this motor some years ago!
It's not pumping enough water, in my opinion!
Never had any cooling issues when I had the motor.
too much oil in fule, try 40; 1
Nedingham1957 Hi, It was running on a 50:1 mix.
Mine says 1/2 pint of oil to 3 gallons of Premium NO ETHANOL gas. What ever that equates to. 40 to 1 I think. What is a motor like this worth running excellent of coarse?
