    My brother had a 45 sitting outside leaned against the barn for over 20 years. I took out the plugs lubed the cylinders put fuel to it and started second pull. Great little motors

      @@boblister665 hey there Sailor, what a great story! Yes, these are great outboards, very smooth and fairly quiet. I love mine, I don’t use it enough. Happy Sailing!! ⚓️

    Wow, I have heard that the old 2 stroke Evinrudes were tanks. Congrats on your fantastic find.

      Thank you! In my last video I actually took this outboard out on the river and it rocks! Hopefully I will be back to filming more content very soon!

    Hi Skipper! I’m restoring the exact same motor. Any chance you could send me some pictures of the choke and fuel shut off valve assembly? I am ordering some missing parts and it want to see how it goes back together. Especially where the fuel shut off valve arm connects to the bushing in the choke knob.

    Proper Job, it must have been built well to start that easily after sitting for 20 years.

    Please don't mix these engines at 100:1, even though OMC did recommend this light mix a few years after this engine. That was a sales gimmic that resulted in alot of damaged powerheads. It is probably best to remove that mag plate to lube everything up properly, although I understand trying to lube it externally just to see if you can get it running. There are two surfaces that need to be properly lubed: the plastic outer bushing (that you lubed with spray) and the inner pilot bushing and boss and the crankcase. Those throttle cables get stiff/ruined easily as well, and are expensive to replace. Best to get one of the motorcycle syringe style cable oilers in an attempt to get the inner cable core well lubed. Did you change the gear lube? Those gearcases are a soft spot on these engines, the lube should be changed often.
    These were great old engines, glad you revived it!

      Thank you for your excellent explanation! I didn’t know that, but I hope to get the Evinrude 45 back out this year and running as soon as I have recovered from surgery. Maybe I’ll do another video about it, and as you say, lovely engine!

    I have a Johnson 4.5 never used yet , hence my question. . One person on an Avon 9 footer, if you have ever used it in the waters…

      @skipperstan  Před 11 dny

      Your 9 footer with that on the back and one person in it will fly! I used mine on a 10ft tender with two big heavy guys in it and the boat got up on a plane, it was nuts! 😄

    Nice video but isn't 1:100 very low oil mixture? I would suggest upwards of 1:50
    Also, pour in some very oily oil mixture directly through the spark plug holes before cranking the engine. The engine seems to run really well.

    • @skipperstan
      @skipperstan  Před rokem +1

      Hello! Yes, I normally use 1:50, but I had some 1:100 left over from the Seagull video, so I though I would use that. Good tip with the oil, I will definitely do that next time thanks. Glad you enjoyed the video 🥰

      @@skipperstan The danger is that it can be seen as a recommendation from you with that oil mixture, and then it ends badly. I subscribe now, nice channel. Thanks

      You should never run an old seagull outboard engine on 100:1 😮

      @@williamcox2996 hello Sailor! I suppose it depends on which boat it is pushing. I expect on the 10ft tender I was using, it was easy to get up to speed. It really felt quite quick. Maybe on a 15ft with say four people onboard, it would still push well but slower. Hope that answers your question and happy sailing! ⚓️
