I know that Telsa sells a family of adapters for 120/240V and a wide variety of charging currents. I have been told (but haven't confirmed) that the adapter contains a PWM circuit that tells the charger what current is allowed. I installed a 240V-20A plug (using the proper NEMA 6-20R receptacle) for my daughter's use when she visits. With the proper adapter the charger sorts it out and charges at the allowable 15 mph. It seems that Ford may be doing the same thing, just without providing an assortment of adapter/plug combos.

I have a Lightning with the yellow banded adapter and my J1772 connector is white. I think that is just a function of when the unit was built.

@cary83 I just bought a used mach e and it came with the black handled adapter. I hope you are right about that.

Any of the ford chargers will charge up the mach-e. But only the yellow banded adapter can charge an EV from the bed of the Lightning. That's really what were trying to prove. All the ford mobile chargers are the same, only the adapter that plugs into it are different.

I think the Chevy Bolt came with the same cord set also. They all come from Wabasto and you can get grid plugs for just about any country

The Chevy bolt EUV mobile charger Cords are also interchangeable with the Ford mobile charger. Confirmed with my brother's bolt when he was having issues with poor connection on his 240v adapter.

So This is great to know if you want to charge another vehicle off your vehicle. Here is my question, I bought my truck from dealership (they had the mobile charing cable missing) I asked for it and they brought me one that th epart number didn't match the empty bag that was in my truck. I asked if it was the right one they said yes. I am pretty certian mine doesn't have the yellow tape on the adapter; however, I don't care about charging another car from the bed of my truck, i only care about charging my truck itself, which can handle a full forty amps in the charge port of the truck. So if that is all i want to use it for I am better off IF I have the mach e charger right?

I have used my ford charging brick with a dryer adapter to make 2.88 kw.

Do you know what amperage adapters the tesla charger comes with? I would be interested to know if the tesla adapter could regulate back to say, 18 or 24 amps.

@@MartinRebuilds-fz1ep I was mistaken, I went back to verify what I said and the test I did do was plug the 120 adapter into a 240 source which worked. I have an adapter that goes from a 3 prong dryer outlet to a normal outlet. So effectively, you should get somewhere around 2.88 kw.

I believe @mscartee asked my exact question lol however i still need it dumbed down for me. I Bought a Ford Lightning XLT SR, it did not come with a charger, the dealer offered to throw one in from their inventory that was from a new 2024 Mach-E.... Will this work on my truck just fine?

It will charge your truck just fine. It just won't charge another ev from the bed. You'll need the yellow band connector to do that.

Yes. This is for charging other vehicles off the onboard power of lightning.
