  • Full details on how to build your own homemade rotary broom for your tractor. No additional motor or engine required. The broom (aka brush) will fit most compact tractors. The video shows the broom installed on my Kubota BX. See more broom sweeping action here: • Homemade rotary broom ...

    Very cool Bob. I’m thinking of making one to sweep our walnuts to a pile.

    That is some creative engineering, really enjoyed it. I love the combination of wood and steel and the "we take what we have" philosophy. Hope I can steal some of your ideas for my own future projects

    Excellent.
    My first thought was putting grass clippings/leaves into a bucket or trailer.

      @BobKelland  Před 2 lety

      Would be good to see if you develop something to do that.

      I think it might be a while.
      I’m gardening with every possible effort.
      But I have saved this video.
      I’m using brake discs for spiked angled disc’s to cultivate this year by angling them and allowing the spikes around the edge to move the earth towards the row creating a furrow.
      I’m also using a riding lawnmower front tire with spikes 1/4”x20-5 to row up grass clippings to blend in the garden as biomass.
      I drill holes through the rounded corner where the sidewalls meet the tread.
      The old stiff rubber tire gets predrilled and a 1/4”x20”-5” bolt gets screwed in then the sidewall scrubs on the grass.
      The bolts act like sweeps to row the grass clippings.
      But then has to be forked into the trailer.
      Your idea is much more functional for loading and sweeping in 1 pass.
      I think since I’m not going to be actually touching the earth or heavy gravel the brushes would spin easier. ?

    Great Idea. I have a Honda FG110 mini tiller and want a sweeper broom to sweep my pavers. I could go for the Ryobi but the $150 price tag is too much for basic home cleanups twice a year. I hope to build something similar soon.

    I appreciate this product of diy engineering. Being a prototype, I'm curious if you were able to increase the rpm of the brush drive in later models.

    • @BobKelland
      @BobKelland  Před 7 lety

      No attempt made to increase rpm of the brush. The unit shown just happened to have a pretty good combo of ground grip and brush rpm so modifying it may be a little futile - but you never now of course.

    Was there any consideration into designing it so it swept everything into the tractors bucket by going in reverse...? That thought occurred to me as I watched. Great design, I may build one...! Nice work, great share...!

    • @BobKelland
      @BobKelland  Před 6 lety

      No I didn't consider that but might be worth working on. I did think about angling the broom to move the dirt to the side but didn't come up with a suitable solution for that.

      You are using a turnbuckle to keep the tires firmly against each other.
      Would a spring from a trampoline work?
