- Giratina had the most character growth in Pokemon Legends Arceus! It's great the added depth to Giratina's lore as a legendary god of the Pokemon world.

I always saw it as Giratina chose Volo, but Cyrus tried to take Giratina’s power to use for his own, not being actually chosen

I like to think that after Volo's battle Giratina saw that its violent behavior doesn't really benefit it in any way and so it just decided to chill out in the Distortion world. That is untill Cyrus came along. I'm pretty sure the 2 worlds are stated to be connected in the way that when one is destroyed, the other disappears aswell. So the reason Giratina stops Cyrus is to protect its home and maybe to attone for its misdeeds
I will never forget that scene from pokemon platinum.. when i was 9 years old a friend of mine gave me pokemon platinum, but I NEVER EXPECTED THAT I WOULD GET A JUMPSCARE AT A CERTAIN POINT IN THE HISTORY OF THE GAME.

I honestly think because Volo had the Ghost Plate, he was under some form of mind control, given he is a Ghost type, so maybe his interference with Cyrus was because Giratina didn't want the same thing that happened to it happen to his brothers

I absolutely love that Legends Arceus actually made these legendary pokemon feel like characters in their own right instead of just being these gigantic powerful beasts. first time I feel like the Pokemon series has actually properly treated its legendaries like actual god-like beings.
I think that giratina was swayed by volo (therefore it went with volo’s plan) but didn’t here Cyrus’s plan and just thought “ooh yay food nom”.

maybe giratina just gave up,after all, if the player lost to volo or cyrus, arceus would just intervene and banish it to the distortion world again
I like this take, and it would make sense why Giratina challenges the player in both games. Legends Arceus would be the rebellion against Arceus, while Platinum Giratina would be a challenge towards what I assume to be a younger Dawn or Lucas that he might recognize and challenge again (not counting of course the multiple universe explanation from Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire and the Link Cable post game lore situation.) It also seems like Giratina saving Palkia and Dialga might be for sibling reasons. Sure, Giratina would have wanted to beat Arceus, but I am unsure if there was ever a sibling rivalry for Giratina against space and time, only dislike of Arceus himself, and that Dialga and Palkia mainly just side with Arceus generally. There was that time Giratina fought Dialga, and that time Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina defended Earth from Arceus in the anime Pokemon movies from Sinnoh. So I don't think Giratina is like just evil or cruel for the sake of it, or stuck that way at least. Giratina does seem to let Cyrus stay in the Distortion World in those Pokemon shorts for I think Masters EX or something in commercials on CZcams awhile back. They had a few of those floating around, unless they are they're own thing and not from Masters EX. Idk.
