      We're getting a ton of Phantom Menace era content this year. The currently ongoing comics of Mace Windu and Jango Fett take place around Episode 1. Darth Maul has a miniseries on the way. There's a Mace Windu novel that takes place immediately after Phantom Menace coming in August. And of course the movie itself is returning to theaters. So yeah great stuff on the horizon!

    I have been saying for YEARS that we need to get stories that humanise the Jedi despite their flaws and justful criticisms. I fully believe George Lucas' intent with the Jedi in the prequels was to show that people and groups can be flawed and imperfect but still be powerful forces for good but I feel like a lot of people have lost sight of that. The past few years have been so inundated with stories that criticise the Jedi relentlessly and while I am not opposed to that, it is *good* to challenge the characters from time to time but when that's all that you do and you don't balance it out, you skew people's perception of them away from what it should be, that yes, the Jedi are flawed but they are still the good guys just trying their best and attempting to navigate complicated situations, often politically which is a necessary evil of their duty.
    It sounds like John Jackson Miller might have finally delivered something along those lines so I'm looking forward to reading The Living Force for myself, I found the first excerpt very enjoyable and I hope it will start a balance of stories going forward.

      I highly recommend checking out prequel stuff from the EU, specifically the comics. They do a great job characterizing the jedi... stuff like shatterpoint by matthew stover, or yoda dark rendezvous as well.
      Mace specifically is imo alot better written in those pre TCW EU stuff.

    • @a_fine_edition2746
      @a_fine_edition2746 Před měsícem +2

      @@Mal-sg6zcThose are both awesome novels. Shatterpoint was surprisingly dark, and Dark Rendezvous had a bunch of fun Yoda moments while also giving you a bit of a deeper glimpse into his and Dooku's psyche.

    Of course, this is written by John Jackson Miller. He wrote the KOTOR comic series whose protagonist basically does exactly what Qui-Gon is telling the council to do here. Helps the little people during the time when the big galactic war between Revan and the Mandalorians is really starting to kick off. He does the same with Kenobi come to think of it and... eventually Kanan. Once the former padawan gets over his angst.

      Stuff taking place around the prequels and OT aren’t usually terrible but I think that’s more due to things not being able to be changed due to the canon of the movies. There are some bad ones though, like the Jedi game tie in book

    I'm pretty interested in this era. Rogue Planet, Cloak of Deception, Master and Apprentice. Anything with young Dooku
    I feel like it should be explored more. Skywalker Saga should expand outwards in either direction. I don't like the big decades to centuries long gaps where apparently no stories worth being told happened

  • @tristankawatsuma8962
    @tristankawatsuma8962 Před měsícem

    If I wrote a Canon novel, it would be a Clone Wars story from the perspective of Clone Troopers. There have been the Padmé books, Brotherhood, and Dark Disciples, but it can feel the Clone Wars gets less coverage than other eras of Star Wars in novels and comics, even less than pre-Clone Wars Republic Era. And the novels I do list along with Clone Wars comics cover things from the POV of the Jedi. Frankly only the Battle Tales Comic Series covers the Clones, otherwise it feels like it’s only the Jedi fighting for the Republic.
    For the Separatist Villains, I would put them in two categories. The corrupt evil types we see throughout Clone Wars media and the patriotic idealists like Mina Bonteri. Maybe the true Separatist is a new guy on the frontlines and is shocked to what Dooku allows his officers to do on the frontlines. This idealist would have to face the hard truth that the Separatists are just making things worse, though I would be on the fence whether he dies trying to redeem himself, joins the Republic, or decides to reform the CIS from within.
    Like other Clone Wars Jedi, the Jedi General and Commander in this story would be dealing with how they have transitioned from peacekeeping to becoming soldiers. However I would have the story show how despite the darkness of war, the Jedi are still incompatible with the Empire that will come. Non-Clone officers are going to clash with the Jedi on stuff like the treatment of the Clones and about mercy towards the Separatists. I can kind of understand where Barriss came from in Season 5, but it still seems like the darkest the Jedi Order ever went is still too noble and heroic for the Sith and Empire.
    Finally come my favorite characters in fiction, the Clone Troopers. We would see how loyal they are to the Republic and democracy, despite not having anything to do with either. The clones are going to face plenty of discrimination, with the Jedi being some of the few who will defend them. Republic officers will feel the Clones are too close to the Jedi, civilians on all sides will see them as being no different from droids, and the Separatists of course are trying to kill them since they are enemies. It would be something like the Twilight Company Battlefront novel. Expect a lot of exploration into why the Jedi and Clones bond so well.
    I don’t know whether the story would end with the Republic winning the battle or losing it. If they lose, the final battle won’t be a decisive one, but one where the Jedi and Clones are fighting to evacuate loyalists and neutrals. That’s how I would write a Star Wars Novel. Thoughts?
