I first heard Joan when she came and sang at my High School in 1955. I was not particularly influnced by her, as I had already taken up guitar and was singing a lot at summer camp and in my High School Acapella Choir. I was a pretty good singer, but I admired her guitar work. After 70 years of singing and playing I still admire her guitar work. She plays with a strong but delicate style. Unfortunately, for me, everywhere I sang I was compared with her all my professional life. Being a soprano didn't help me. But I must say, I admire her and always have. She used her fame to work for non violence, peace, integration with all the world's people. She brought songs like Joe Hill to a wider audience. I knew about Dylan, whom I also have always admired. There is one album that I think stands out among all the albums she had made. It is called "Baptism" & is wonderful poetry, some set to music which she sings. The cover is a painting of her profile. There are marvelous poems but I doubt that many have heard of it. She has earned a rest and she feels her voice is not what it was. Mine still is and I am so grateful. I'm 83. I chose to work with families, passing on old songs to new ears. Joan came into our Palo Alto gallery a few times & people would ask who that woman was. We found her very nice and appreciative of our work and yes, her charisma was intense. Oakland CA 2023

She has always had one of the most incredible voices in music. I love her version of Forever Young! As for her relationship with Dylan, it is pretty much summed up in her song Diamonds and Rust. Many thanks to her for all the great quality of her work. I sometimes think entertainers don't fully appreciate the value of their contributions to our society. I hope she does so.

Joan Baez, 82? She looks extremely well for her age...she is aging very gracefully. Wondered about her and Bob Dylan, now I know...they were both music icons in their day. Thanks for the update, Facts Verse! 👍🤗

I loved Joan Baez and saw her in person several times. So talented and admired addressing the problems of the sixties and seventies. Also loved the protest songs of Bob Dylan. I think Folk music of the early 60s led to musical comments on happenings of the times. So very sorry Joan Baez was treated in a shabby manner by Bob Dylan. Joan Baez is an Icon and should not ever have felt less than other people. No one can sing with a beautiful voice and has her presence. She is an exceptionally talented, gifted artist. I should love to peruse her book of line drawings. Sounds fun and interesting!

Joan was the one who introduced Bob to a wider audience when she took him to the Newport festival in 1963. It was inevitable that they would develop a romantic relationship.
I always thought that Dylan must have felt a bit smothered by her and am convinced she really loved him.
Her autobiography "And a voice to sing with" is beautiful. She writes among other things about Woodstock, where she appeared and some of the musicians. Janis joplin and her hopeless fall into alcoholism gets a special mention.

M'y favorite song IS spanish boots of spanish leather. She turned Dylan's composition intro a gem with her voice singing both high and low as into a conversation between two lovers separated by distance, one of which IS not sure as to his feelings. Thé background orchestration IS so créative and emphasizes every word of thé song.

yes, and arrives from techno relationships archives weekly. There is a few artists out there that maybe be wise and follow the example of Joan Baez by leaving the stage. I love Joan Baez's songs and she knew when to call it a day but who knows there is a good chance the nostalgia for the winds of the old days will return and like Judy Collin will return to the stage with her voice sounding better than ever. love her!

Dylan is a scumb bag for how he treated her. If it wasn't for her getting his career started when she protested on stage and refused to sing unless they let him sing and that's just one of many things she did to help him get started. And he was not even man enough to apologize to her!
