When writing songs from J.I. Packer’s classic Knowing God, we realized why good theology should always lead to glad doxology. Packer’s book didn’t simply contain words on a page to be read. They were songs waiting to be sung. So the first single from the album, Sing, encourages us to do just that. It’s a jubilant call to worship, reminding us that the One who created, redeemed, and sustains us is worthy of unending songs of passionate praise.

Can I talk to my songwriters around these parts about the one measure of 3/4 at the end of verse one? Rephrasing "sing O, sing" to fit 6/8 (like the rest of the song) would mean those words would have to be stretched and that may ruin the lift effect at the end of each verse, but I think there's an issue worth discussing, here: is it better to stay in one meter or to break the meter in order to serve the words?

Bob Kauflin here. It’s actually a measure of 9/8. It all depends on whether the change is convincing or not, usually because of the lyric. We thought it was!

@@bkauflin update: my team listened to the song at practice tonight and we've all decided it would be a great song for our older congregation, yet still contemporary. My drummer thought the measure of 9 was "cool."
