  • Talking about my thoughts on the Black Diamond Distance Carbon FLZ Trekking Poles. I give my review and other's reviews in this video and who these trekking poles are for.
Trekking Poles mentioned in this video:
BD Distance Carbon FLZ - amzn.to/2SbzPem
These are the poles I used in the video. They are the top end of what Black Diamond offers.
BD Distance Aluminum FLZ - amzn.to/2T5GJm5
These are the aluminum version of my poles. A great option if you want to save some money but keep all the features.
    BD Distance Carbon Z - amzn.to/3u65yLx
A very lightweight option but you lose the adjustability.
    BD Distance Aluminum Z - amzn.to/2Sc498I
These are the newer version of my first ever trekking poles and a very great beginner or budget option. Seriously, they are really great poles!
I work really hard on all my videos and share my honest experience with the gear I use. All of the links above are Amazon associate links. I earn a small commission on them at no extra cost to you. This helps me continue to make content and support this channel. Thanks!

At last an honest user review. To many 'reviews' from shops just trying to sell the product. Very helpful.

Thanks! I bought them here in Australia and they are way more AUD350 (USD236). I've upgraded from some cheap FIZAN poles, and the difference is quite noticeable. I'd add that the design has probably changed a little, the button looks larger on mine and doesn't look like it'll be a problem. Time will tell. I was also encouraged to see that you thump the poles ion to give you leverage, I was doing that with the old poles and got that uncomfortable "wonga wonga wonga" feel. Heading out with them in 6 days on a tough day hike!

Thanks for the great review! I have a pair of BD carbon z poles and I love their super light weight. I'm not a serious hiker and only pull them out of my backpack when I trek difficult terrain. I found the light weight and short length after folding so great that I'll stick with BD z poles. By the way, my carbon z poles (bought August 2022) sport an oval shaped lock button, giving me a lot of more room to place my thumb for the unlock push motion. It has made a BIG difference.

Hint: don’t grip handles too tight/much - put weight on the strap.

Super review! Are there protective covers / wider tips for these poles? The Black Diamond website is somewhat inscrutable.

I just looked at these poles today. Can't remember seeing the little locking button on them. I need them for use in the high mountains and for trekking. Not sure if they are suitable or not. Plus would they come apart if u stuck them into snow

Is the additional cost of the carbon fibre worth it over the aluminium version? Do you really notice the weight difference? Is there any difference in durability? Thanks

Is it better to get z poles that pack down small but are not height adjustable or get the ones that are height adjustable but not fold like the z ones

I’ve owned both of Black Diamond’s height adjustable and non-adjustable Z-poles and I prefer the adjustable ones. The poles in this video are the poles I still use today and they are great.

    A good and neutral video!
A question about the hand straps. I still have the first Z-Poles with the hand straps in size M and would like to replace them now.
The replacement loops are available in two sizes: S/M or M/L.
What size is installed in the poles you presented and which of the two sizes would you recommend as a replacement?
    Many thanks and regards, Matthias

Yeah, but you can't take the mud baskets off. Not on the old version or the new.
