Vietnam $2 Street Shave Hanoi 🇻🇳

- ■ HANOI, VIETNAM: As I was making a street tea video in the centre of Hanoi I stumbled upon an old temptation of mine which made me reminisce about India: a street barber. Not just that, this barber was female! Something I've never seen this before as this is a heavily male dominated profession.
The only problem was I don't want to cut my hair and I also didn't even have a 2 day beard to shave! The only thing the barber could go to work on would be my treasured precious goatee!!!!
So what was a straight white male to do? 🤔
Dilemmas dilemmas.....
That card lady is a sweetheart. She told the barber that $5 bucks was way too expensive and to lower the price. She was scolding him for you Harald. You are lucky to have that Street Seller Angel to help you like that. What a nice lady to translate for you. Thank you for correcting your mistake in currency conversion. You are a good man Harald. I would be buying her cards when I go back to Hanoi. Roxxi approves!
And still he misunderstood her
We need more people like that. RIGHT ? :)
My wife said the same thing. The lady is actually a nice person. Maybe he fought for the North in the war!! Although Harold is Norwegian!
You are right
She was a sweetheart. She was helping him.
That Vietnamese woman is a pure sweetheart. God bless her sweet soul. Never judge a book by it's cover!

Those cards are the best cards I’ve seen in my life!!

You should sell the cards online. You can sell a lot if you do.
Do you know how much in American dollars, they are beautiful
Kimberly Martyn about $1.72
She should sell them on line to fat westerners, she'll make a killing 😂🤣
Harald she's doing the opposite off what you are implying, she's telling him he is charging too much and he should lower the price, she is a honest woman
Herosade she is from what I read throughout, however I think she did that also to make sure he has enough money to spend on her stuff after. If you recall she was wanting him to buy right away even after he said he would for sure after.
@@ramanjitgill2381 From what you read? Hello, don't be a dumb arse. There are literally a bunch of vietnamese here already explain the actual event. Don't assume and speculate if you aren't 100% sure. Only a person with that kind of mentality will think others the same. Likewise, a thief will always think police are out to catch them too.
ramanjit gill I see your point, it could be confusing as you didn't really understand the Vietnamese people's culture as well as how welcoming we are to foreigners. Yes, sellers sometimes can be take advantage of tourists by increasing the price but that's the problem which many countries are living with, not only in Vietnam. But in Vietnam, I promise if you be able to visit our lovely country or at least take time to do some research about us, you would realize there's no other place in this planet that have super friendly and hospitable people like us! I hope next time before making any assumption, you could pause your thoughts and look for the right answer by listening to both sides.
That lady was so helpful and kind. She is also a businessperson like the barber. She is industrious. She took classes to further herself. I really liked her
Rolf Dahmer it’s the same all around the world, you don’t work you don’t eat, idiot.
@@huuduyvu9714 Not everywhere. In more developed countries there is this thing called "wellfare" system. IDIOT.
Gutmad Plez you think you can live forever by relying on welfare system? Ah, such a stupid. National budget of countries even developed ones can be doomed at any time-almost all governments pay more than earned and they must borrow money from internal and foreign sources with promise of paying before expiry date-kept by their own image. So, welfare for most situations once you still have ability to work is just a tool to help you pass period of unemployment; you can’t stay there forever and do nothing. Hope you don’t have Down symptoms.
Gutmad Plez developed countries 😂 you mean countries that became bankrupt or poor because of the lazy people who ‘can’t’ work? There are first world countries with no welfare you dumb shit.

I actually thought the lady who was translating deserved the money more than the barber. She was nice, spoke English and was eager to help.
When I went to Vietnam, I found all the people very friendly and willing to help. It is such a misunderstood country
I think we all do, she was so happy on how nice Harald was to him, i genuinely think that.
@@dorinoprea5835 There is no difference between a service or sales business. They are both entrepreneurs trying to make a living to feed their family. Harald's mission is to reward hard-working in poor countries. He has given money to people selling tea and fruit in India or Sri Lanka. Those people sold items so your assertion that he only helps service people is shit.
She is working for herself, and her sister. That would make her an entrepreneur, and or business owner. Harald helps whomever he deems needs help, a cleaning lady, a shopkeeper, a barber. Though he does seems to enjoy helping entrepreneurs starting a business by giving them a head start. Think about what you said, "just a seller" who would we buy goods from with no sellers or clerks? Your statement came off as derogatory toward the millions of people who are clerks, or in sales. I don't think you meant to degrade those positions, but be wary of your phrasing when writing a comment.
Why does someone have to pay for something like that immediately? That should be self-evident. Besides, Harald did not know what she said to the old man.
That lady is an absolute god send... next time I’m Hanoi, I am going there just to give her money... she deserves it.

At 5:35 when Harald was asking for the cost of the shave, the old man originally asked for $5 US (over 100K VN dong). The card lady actually warned the barber that he should not overcharge Harald and proposed a shave for 50K VN dong. She was trying to lower the cost, contrary to Harald's sub-title "but I suspect she's trying to get him to charge more". A very kind gesture! At 11:56, as the barber was applying shaving cream to Harald's chin, he asked if Harald is married, and if Harald wants to marry the card lady. She said Harald is only 37, younger than she is. The barber retorted: westerners don't really care about age, if the two are compatible, they'd just get married even if there are 1 or 2 kids already in the picture. Wonder what Harald would think if he understood what they were talking about.
He’s not wrong! People get married here bc of love. Age, kids and other factors don’t really get put into account.
Y'all seen rush hour 2? Lol jk
🤣 while harald didn't understood
She's saying him to charge you less. She is so nice
The old man asked you if you were married and if you wanted to marry the vendor lady. The lady quickly responded that you were younger than she was but he said Westerners wouldn't care about age. Anyways, $40,000 vnd is about $1.75 U.S. dollar. I think the lady deserves more money than the barber too.
Lol🤣🤣, thanks for translate
I heard that
I agreed
The barber did a good job
I think Harald should have asked her out. She is a keeper. She was watching his back the moment she saw him. 💗
She was trying to tell him that he charged too much and make it cheaper
Love it! What a great girl At his age though and still working I do think he should charge as much as the market will bear so he can retire.

What I really love about Harald's videos is that he can find fun and interesting people wherever he goes and doesn't have any kind of "fear" from talking with strangers. Most traveling channels concentrates on the places themselves, while Harald always focuses on the locals. Kumar from Nepal is just the funniest guy I've ever seen and the lady in this video is also great.
Man, this Vietnamese barber did better job for 2 dollars than girl in Vegas, I guess years of experience makes a difference here. A true master.
😂 I speak Vietnamese as my first language and she is saying that what he wants to charge u is to much. At first he ask her what’s 5 dollars in dong and she says about 125 dong but she’s like that’s too much, he said he’ll charge 100 dong but she continues to say that’s to much and talks the price down for u
Aww wow , such a lovely woman , thanks for translating 🥰

I'm white but understand the bare minimum of Vietnamese and I'm pretty sure I heard them say "tây" which I know refers to westerners. I know that based on the barber's age that I should address him as "ông".
Was in Hanoi in February 2023. The locals said the barber has passed away. I did find the lady barber Harold was looking for. She cut my hair but does not offer shaves. The haircut included a deep clean of my ear passages. She did an excellent job.

Mr. Heraldo, I speak on behalf of all your followers. We demand that you go back and give that woman some more money. She was an honest and humble person. She deserves it.

Harald thought she was too talkative and ignored her badly few times with his monologues. Start a coversation and falling deaf ears is kind of rude. But it is what it is.
"Mr. Heraldo"..Lol
Did u make her your pfp??? 10/10
He bought many stuff from her,
Harold isn't rude, u are rude for thinking that he's rude. It's his money, he can spend it the way he wants.
Harold. You are one of the rare types with a conciousness and awareness of what is right and wrong. I am the same way. If I had gone through that I would also go back. In fact I could not not go back. Sadly most people don't care. And they miss out on the joy of giving. One time a gal in a grocery store gave me change as if I had paid with a 50 dollar bill when I had used a twenty. She actually gave me more in change than what I used to make the purchase. Unfortunately I did not discover the error until I was home so I had to drive all the way back. My friend said why go back? You just got free money. I said no I didn't, I got money that doesn't belong to me and her register will show the shortage and it will be out of her pocket. When I returned to the store the gal was no longer at the register so I tracked down the store manager to explain what had happened. It took a couple of times but when she finally got it she got so excited and started yelling to her coworkers, This guy is returning money blah blah... I said please stop I am just doing what anyone would do. Not to mention I like being able to sleep well. lol
wow, you're such an honest man
I would do the same thing. One time I drove back 20 minutes to return the extra money the cashier gave me. And I slept better at night.

Harold tipped the wrong person, the lady deserves a lot more then the man.
I think this man has a good life, better than the woman, working just makes him happy. Vietnamese old man like to chat with other old man on the street everyday, maybe chess games in the afternoon too. It's quite stressful and boring when at home alone, not good for the elderly. And the woman is more deserving the extra tip

paul lee, at the end of the video, all three involved in the transactions were happy. I too was happy as Harald, after realising his mistake with the exchange rate, did the right thing by going back. It was just a brief moment in time that all three will remember for a quite a while with an inner smile of contentment and as such, the judgements of the viewers in the comments are both insignificant and irrelevant. It is what it is and that's a good memory to cherish for the three of them.
