- This is the third barbershop experience we filmed while in Mumbai, India where we aimed to experience barbershops from street-barbers to high-end business class.
In this video I was treated to The Royal Shave at Truefitt & Hill located in Colaba, Mumbai India close to Regal Cinema and The Gateway of India.
Truefitt & Hill describes The Royal Shave as follows:
A timeless straight-razor shave perfected since 1805, this classic Royal ritual begins with the wrapping of hot towels followed by exfoliating the face with a scrub.
Thereafter, the skin is nourished and massaged with a light-textured pre-shave oil. This makes the beard soft, allowing the razor blade to glide smoothly. A hot towel is wrapped again, an occurrence that is repeated often to help open the pores and relax the customer.
Using our handmade badger brush, a small amount of our glycerine-based shaving cream is applied to create a rich and emollient lather. The brush coats each individual whisker with shaving cream ensuring the most comfortable shave possible. Now, holding the skin taut with one hand, the other hand does its magic with a straight-razor.
This zen experience of shaving heightens when the Royal Shave concludes with a relaxing facial massage and the application of a selection of 10 aftershave balms/lotions.

I realize it may be funny to some that this is about all he said, but that is almost the beauty of this moment. No talking, and this barber gave the most serene experience I have ever seen. Itâs like they were the only two on the planet at the time, and there was nothing else to do. Time stopped!

This video always makes me sleepy. The barber is obviously a pro and knows what he is doing. What I like most about him is that unlike barbers that talk too much, he does not bother his customer with nonsense and too much talk. The most he said was "comfortable sir?".

Best asmr video. This one hits on different levels. The quiet interior with faint sounds of busy traffic outside enhances the experience. Reminds me of being an expat in Asia and receiving this kind of service. The barber's footsteps. The sound of the water coming out of the faucet. The ticking of the clock that you hear sometimes and other times don't even notice. The hot towel. Most times I can't even stay awake after the first one. Great job capturing asmr lightning in a bottle.

Iâve seen his other barbershop videos but this one is my favorite. The Indian gentleman is by far the most meticulous. Truly a professional. Too bad thereâs no one like him in California. I would make it a routine to visit him at least once a month. The way he shakes the towel before applying it shows his craftsmanship.
Yeah, full service things like head massage and craft shaving are available in the Us, but more expensive and harder to find. Thereâs plenty of normal massage places and plenty of foot spas in cities, medium sized and up.. black and Latin communities tend to have strong barber cultures which are also like social places⊠but I wish we had more of these kind of barbers and face/head massages. ASMR Twix has a ton of Japanese head massage places that seem amazing.

Jonathan Long Yes I certainly do not like paying $8 a cartridge for one shave and putting money in the pockets of greedy organisations, I guess I'm just frugal that way. Also it's a much closer shave resulting in better results.
Jonathan Long a strop doesnât sharpen a blade. It polishes an already sharp edge finer than what steel or ceramic can. If itâs got any polish compound on it that will fill in microscopic nicks left or erase them from the steel and give you that true razor sharp edge

Itâs hard to find anyone who still does these old fashioned full works shaves,much less anyone who can do them with such skill, attention, and precision. But if youâve never had one, you donât know what you are missing. One of the best treats you can have or buy for a man (dad, brother, friend).

This is a man who is dedicated to his service and his performance in his job, if i got a shave there I wouldn't know how manly balms or steps there were to the routine, I could get slapped about with gel twice and a hot towel shave and think that was it! But the fact the barber goes through every step in such detail really shows what an outstanding service he wants to provide to the customers and that he knows the establishment he works for is one built on pride of service! Top bloke!

This guy is truly a barber surgeon. A professional in every aspect of his craft. There is even somewhat of a spiritual healing aspect to this with its ritualistic attention to detail.
