    I noticed shooting in 4k in S AND Q. when you get to final cut, trying to slow or speed up a 4k clip it comes out glitchy , however shooting in 1080 p 120 fps you can slow down a clip or speed the clip up and its smooth however shooting in 1080 is not as glass as 4k so I guess when you shoot a scene shoot 2 takes in 4k and one take in 1080 120 fps so you won't miss the butter slow motion . shooting in 1080 120 you don't have to shoot in s and q at all.

    You can create you're own custom menu and the Sony menu really isn't as messy as it used to be. And this is coming from a long term GH5 user who has moved over. Also SQ isn't best way to shoot 120p

    • @TristanBarrocks
      @TristanBarrocks  Před 5 lety +2

      Focusing is hard in slow motion because the image is much softer. The way I get around it is by using the focus peaking settings in the camera. The other thing is that when you are shooting at this speed things don't need to be in perfect focus all the time. IT actually helps with the effect IMO

    I have a question for you, I'm about to buy my first Sony A7III monitor and I'm breaking my head which one to pick, so, I thought will be a great idea to ask the professional.
    Since I'll be filming mostly outside and the sun here is extremely strong, it will have to be bright + I'm looking for a touch screen monitor with a super good focus picking, last thing will be happy if the battery will not end too fast, can you please recommend a model or 2? Oh the budget, I guess, something around $300-$450.

      Hello, Tal! Thank you so much for watching the video. I am super glad that you found it helpful in anyway. That being said let's talk a little about monitors.
      The first one that comes to mind is the Atomos Shinobi 5.2 - amzn.to/31HjdvP
      This will be at the top of your budget but has all the feature you are looking for.
      The next great option is the Free World monitors - amzn.to/2w8pu8l
      These are not touch but have all the other features you want and best part is they are sub $250 CAD.
      The others that are much cheaper would be the Lilliput monitors - amzn.to/3bniXXk
      Hope that this helps.

    • @TristanBarrocks
      @TristanBarrocks  Před 4 lety +1

      Hey Jason! Thank you so much for reaching out. With regards to your problem, it's all about adding lots of light to the space indoors. If you don't have light hitting the sensor then at that high frae rate it's super hard for the camera to perform well in the dark.
      Once you have the clips in post it maybe too late, so always remember to add lots of light to the shot when shooting in high frame rates. Cheers

    Did you use Cine4, SLH or SLOG2? And which do you use most for daytime lighting and lowlight

    • @TristanBarrocks
      @TristanBarrocks  Před 5 lety

      I use PP7 for most of my video capture with Cine3 or Rec 709. It really depends on the delivery of the project. If I'm under a time crunch I tend to use less flat settings because I have not time to CC. Whereas if I have the time I go with the SLOG or flatter settings.

    Putting this comment here as well as in my reply to someone earlier. If I want 120 FPS I have to go to NTSC mode. I see that if I'm shooting in PAL mode in the UK that going to NTSC for the 120FPS means I will have to format my card or delete the footage already on it, even if I take the card out before the NTSC reboot and put it back in after, unless I'm mistaken. Seems I may have to use a seperate card just to go for the slo-motion shot that I need to film film for an upcoming project I have. A bit messy, not sure if there's another way I can do all this without having to use a seperate card or risk deleting the other footage that I'll be shooting that day, or just go to 100 FPS?

    Do you import fcpx slow motion video already? How do you do that in the video preview window is already slow?

    • @TristanBarrocks
      @TristanBarrocks  Před 5 lety

      Hey thank you for the question. If you follow this particular method the clips have already been conformed to slow motion inside of the camera. So all you have to do is import them into FCPX and they will be smooth and sexy.

    I always thought to good great slo mo you should do it manually and use s&q but your video looks tight!

    • @TristanBarrocks
      @TristanBarrocks  Před 5 lety +1

      Your right! To get the best quality you should do it manually, but honestly that depends on the output platform you are doing to. For web based stuff this will look clean and will hold up well. Thanks for the thoughts.

    this was super helpful but question when I film in these settings will it playback slow-motion on the camera? When I shoot some footage it played back normal and I put slow motion on to of it and it still came out smooth, but what am I doing wrong because it would raw be slow motion right off the bat when I upload it to Final Cut. Also do ou have recommendations for a gimbal that is not to pricy.

    Hey Tristan thanks for the great tutorial !
    just wanted a bit of help on this - iam shooting a few samples with the a7iii on the record setting of 100p100m (iam using PAL) ... the s&q settings for both record and frame rate are set at 25.
    i have chosen to go with the 100p100m option since its a better bit rate than using the s&q for slow mo.
    But when i play the footage back on the camera , it doesnt seem to show me that its been shot in slomo (100fps)!
    what do you reckon the issue is?
    would i be able to view it only in the edit?
    or is there some setting that i seem to have missed?
    thanks

    • @TristanBarrocks
      @TristanBarrocks  Před 4 lety

      Hey thanks for watching and also thank you for the great question. When you record with these settings the camera captures everything in 100p and plays but as such. Once you bring it into your editor it can be slowed down in there. So no worries at all.

  • @yousifwleed1935
    @yousifwleed1935 Před 3 lety +1

    its complex
    u chose 24 frame rate per second then you've chosen 250 shutter speed ?
    u should rather say double the frame rate not the record frame rate or I miss something here!!
    my a7s3 on HD recording setting, it shots 200 frames per second on 25 output data , so my shutter should be 400 or I should make it 50 !?
    so weird

    @Anna-gv7vo Před rokem

    Hi Tristan, when you go to the S&Q settings and adjust them as you did, is it related to the S&Q on the dial on top of the camera (where you choose your mode M, A, S, 1-2, S&Q)??? Thank you so much in advance
