Thanks for this! I am interested in your final comment, that you don't use S&Q mode because you use speed ramping effects. Couldnt you inverse use that? So have a slomo clip and speed it up? Is it not possible to speed up S&Q footage in post? How do you use speed ramping when you have a 120 fps clip in a 24 fps timeline (so it doesnt slow down at first). Can you just use the keyframes and don't change any settings in your clip and just slow it down using keyframes?
So, usually when I record a video and plan to slow it down in post, I record the video in 60 to 120 fps. Since the clip is originally recorded at 120fps, I'm able to slow the clip down or use a speed ramp effect in my 24fps timeline. If you use the S&Q mode, you won't be able to do this since S&Q mode automatically does it for you within the camera. So, you don't need to slow it down in post. Now, if you want to speed ramp a 24fps clip, technically you can, but it's not going to be as smooth. It'll look choppy since there's only 24 frames available. Hope that make sense. If you want, I can make a video explaining it better in the future.
Great video. Do you sometimes see the frames more, like janky footage sometimes when you shoot manual? Is S&Q more smooth for any reason? I’ve noticed not very smooth footage on the FX3 and my shutter speed was on 250. Was trying to find out why it was janky. Does anyone have any ideas or advice?

Yeah, I usually don't use the S&Q mode when I want to slow down a footage. I rather do it the "normal" way. I do prefer using the S&Q mode tho when I want to do a timelapse. As for the new menu interface, it is much easier to navigate. Finding certain things is a little easier but it's still not perfect.
I had a bad experience with my a7s3. The S&Q mode would not stop activating even when I changed it. And an error appeared in the sensor when I put the recording modes. I had to return the camera because they didn't know how to solve the problem. 😔

No worries! Turn your mode dial on S&Q mode. Adjust the settings, whichever you prefer to do (time-lapse or slow motion). If you don't want to use those anymore, you can switch the dial mode back to video or custom settings you saved. I have more videos on the channel regarding the dial mode settings.

But if I choose to record 120 FPS with audio, does my timeline have to be 30fps? Because I feel like it is choppy when slowed down on a 24 FPS timeline. Or do I have to bring it 20% down?
If your timeline on your video editing software is at 24fps or 30fps, then you have to change the speed of your video that was recorded at 120fps to match the 24fps or 30fps. But doing that, the audio will be slowed down as well. I did a video on how to slow down a footage "the right way" a while back, if you got time, you can check it out.
I personally use GODOX SL150Wii. That's what I used for pretty much everything from talking head videos to product photography/thumbnails. Any light is good honestly, better if adjustable.
There shouldn't be. The quality of the video or the image will depend on the camera and lens you use. How many pixels does the camera has and the quality of the lens.

If I going to be using 120 fps, why do I need to change the Rec Frame rate in both "Movie Settings" and in "S&Q Settings" ? It's either redundant or I'm not understanding something properly.. My next question is what is the purpose of "S&Q Rec Frame Rate" and why do you set it to 24 fps? I know you mentioned that this is the fps you will use in your editing timeline, but why does the camera need to know this? Thank you Marc!

S&Q mode records in a frame speed thats converted automatically.. its not able to record audio. If you really need audio, you have to record in a normal video setting with a higher frame rate and slow it down in post
If you're using the S&Q mode, make sure the recording rate is at 24fps.. and set the frame rate to 120fps. Your timeline for editing should also be at 24fps to match the recorded rate.
@@eriseld I don't think it does... but the lack of memory and space does affect the playback of the software.. not sure which one you use.. but premiere pro updates a lot and requires a lot of memory from your computer

You can but it's only be useful if your timeline is at 120fps as well. But if you use a 30fps or 24fps, then its not going to be useful.

S&Q mode acually records in much higher bitrate than just recording 100/120 FPS. So the image you get should be better but the file sizes larger etc

why does S and Q mode not record any audio?
S&Q mode records in a frame speed thats converted automatically.. its not able to record audio. If you really need audio, you have to record in a normal video setting with a higher frame rate and slow it down in post
