Hope Derek sees this comment: I am 25 years old and owe Derek a huge thank you! Derek and his videos encouraged me to get checked by a specialist for some issues that have been causing me a lot of problems. My cardiologist called me this week and it turns out I do have heart disease stemming from a congenital defect. Been feeling like shit for years and saw a few doctors and heard nothing but "you're too young, it's likely stress and anxiety". Never assume your health parameters are on point just because you're "too young". Now that I have been diagnosed I can take steps to be as safe as possible and hopefully increase my overall lifespan and quality of life. I have been natural my whole life, but situations like this change things down the road even for potential TRT use. I would really have to consider the potential detrimental consequences on my heart. Thanks for always advocating for health and getting checked out, regardless of an individuals age. I wouldn't have pushed for a specialist as much if I wasn't so familiar with Derek's content over the years. I took my issues seriously unlike many doctors. Thanks man, you may have literally saved my life!

Helmut Strebl has been my inspiration for a very long time. I didn't realize until now that I am about 2 months his senior. I am no where near his physique but he makes me feel I still have time. It feels good to be shredded in your 50's, better than the alternative.
Feels good to be fit; shredded I have not managed to attain
When i went to Army basic training as a 19 years old i lost 40lb in 8 weeks... So for all these years until around 38, i always thought "cutting" was 2 months. I didn't even know it takes longer to get really lean. If you are not lean it can take alot longer, so i started one of my cuts at 38 years old and just "kept going" with the process. The process was a workout and cardio load daily and a diet which had a limit on carbs ( for me it was under 100 grams ). It worked to strip 2-3 lbs of fat every week. So i kept going for 5 and half months and was able to peel it down until i had veins in my abs, you could see the glutes, cross striations in the triceps, the teardrop on the thighs, etc, skin wiht no fat in it even in the abdomen area, obliques with cross striations, the muscles on the ribs too. So figure out what your routine is and plan a long time range, say plan 6 months and keep going! When you reach your body fat level ( athletes hold 6-8% yearly ), you would manage your diet and excersize to stay at that bodyfat level for at least a year. You will find the metabolism changes and the bodies new "norm" is that lower body fat level. @@rosep8481

previously i was so low in fat and so shredded, my mode and sleep was horrible, i couldn't sleep for 4 hrs straight no matter what
Never miss out on sleep. Kills ur motivation, messes up your hormones and gains and also just makes everything harder for your body, plus youâll die way earlier.
Yeah, it's absolutely not healthy, and unless you are competing not even worth going to honestly as you can look REALLY good at a healthy bodyfat sitting around 8-10% depending on genetics (I sat around 9-10 naturally most of my life no matter what I was eating and felt good here, only after two years of bad eating and no training during covid have I gone above that to about 13-14%) which isn't that harsh to maintain dietary wise and doesn't require significant dehydration or carb cutting.
Cutting below 5% interferes with brain, kidney, liver, and heart (the first and last being why you wouldn't be able to sleep) function, it's absolutely not healthy for you at all, and the body will start to struggle struggle with anything under 7-8% for most people.
If it's fucking with your sleep it's definitely something unhealthy.
Sleep was likely poor due to having stress ( cortisol ) in the system due to working out so much. You can do your workouts earlier in the day so that the stress has time to leave and plan things to take stress out of you. Sitting in a cool swimming pool will pull stress out of you, there are also tabs to reduce cortisol.

Wow! Excellent breakdown! I use Cronometer thanks to Derikâs suggestion. Itâs great. But it takes a lot of work to get all those micro and macros to be in the green and not have some mineral over the recommended limits. I measure everything to the gram and have to supplement a few things.. All to hit green, and a 100 percent. Iâm 58 years old 6â 2â and 161 dehydrated in the morning. 9.8 percent on bio impedance and Lange skin caliper 3 sight measurements. 22% protein, 51% carb, 27 l% fat. Right at 2000 calories a day. Usually 12-15 under that number.. 5 grams of creatine and body weight and dumbbell workouts. Not very heavy but long carry times. Day 1 Back (pull-ups, single side.rows, and alternating at top dumbbell curls). For biâs. Day 2 Legs, leg extensions, Sissy squats, leg curls and calf raises. 3rd day Shoulder, chest (dips and crossovers) tris, pushdowns and kickbacks.. Then repeat.. Usually no rest days. Only 6 sets total usually per workout. A couple of sets per most exercise. Iâm older so I donât want any more joint problems. And workout at home. No TRT so far. But Cronometer has made 20 pounds come off. From just under 15% body fat to 9.8. Mainly because of Cronometer. And walking a few days a week for cardio. Around 20 years ago I used to train at the same gym as Strebl and would see him there pretty much every time I trained. If memory serves me it was Fitness First, Devonshire Square, near Liverpool Street Station in London
He's South African with a very strong accent, think Kruger from Elysium (but slightly less psychotic) and back then, a penchant for black girls. A bunch of us at the investment bank where we worked had corporate membership to this gym. My female co-workers would always gossip about him, referring to him as "Helly", a mixture of thirst and "eeew he's too much" comments.
Unexpectedly I used to see him around London too in random places, and in person the guy is surprisingly big, seriously JACKED, like "woah, I really didnt expect that !!" He looks a lot smaller in photos. I remember spotting him one time, chilling out at a table outside Costa Coffee on Tottenham Court Road, wearing a tracksuit with only his forearms exposed. They resembled 2 big gnarly tree branches growing out of his sleeves.
Great post
In the articles it says that he is Austrian. Did he move to South Africa, or move to Austria from South Africa?
