    I agree, I own the 23mm f2 on my x-t20 and it is very sharp. I was very impressed. I also found my Samyang/Rokinon 12mm f2 to be very sharp. Love that lens and it is cheap for how well it performs on my x-t20.

    After rewatching this video today and your other video about your pick of the favorite Fuji lens of 2016.... you made me keep the 16mm 1.4 glued to my XT2 with booster for my upcoming trip to Paris, France! I do have the 23 f2 hidden in the bag just in case I have an itch (again the other lens purchased after your awesome review). Now I'm finalizing the debate of 18-135 vs 55-200... which one to purchase... But I feel the King 16mm f1.4 will be the main workhorse :)

    I use 16mm f1.4 for video and its just brilliant. I use 16mm for video and 56mm f1.2 for portraits and sometimes nature also..its great to have more lenses but those two focal lenghts are just so useful and will cover so many needs:)

    We have identical opinions on the best travel duo! The 16mm f1.4 is the finest prime I've ever used. But thanks especially for promoting the 18-135. I travel a lot. It's phenomenal! It's probably the most underestimated and underappreciated Fuji zoom!

    27mm F2.8 & 60mm F2.4: Leave the 27mm on the camera makes it coat pocketable use for Street and general walk about. 60mm in your pocket use for Portrait/ Tele/ Macro. Both have the same filter size buy a third party vented lens hood and use it on both. If you want one lens use the 18-55mm and buy a 3rd party hood to make it smaller.

  • @jeromekwok
    @jeromekwok Před 7 lety +3

    After reading your review, I just bought the 23mmF2 today. I took a few shots and it looks great so far. There is no focus breathing unlike 35mmF2.
    If I go to travel for leisure today, I would probably bring my 16mmF1.4 and 56mmF1.2. These are excellent for wide angle and tele. If I need 35mm equivalent field of view, I would use 16mm and crop it.
    However, if I go on business trip, and I don't anticipate any landscape photography, I would probably bring this 23F2 only. (replacing 18-55 kit or 35mmF2) It is my favorite field of view and it should bring better image quality over 18-55.

    • @jeromekwok
      @jeromekwok Před 7 lety +2

      I sold my 18-135 to fund my XT2 purchase. I find shooting with 56 and crop it, usually have better results than 18-135 at the tele end. It just me what I shoot.
      So far 23f2 looks great. The color on 23f2 looks better than 35f2 in my opinion. I also tried it with the macro tube. It is sharp, but I had to stick it very close blocking the light.
      I will go out and take more pictures tomorrow.

    Hi Ken Travelling to Vietnam in our next holidays. I have the following Fuji Lenses ( Fuji XT-2 camera) 16mm f/1.4 bought on your recommendation, Fuji 50-140mm and Fuji 16mm /f1.4 also on your recomendation.. One of the places we want to go in Vietnam is called: Hoi An know as the city of Lanterns. At night these lanterns are all over Hoi An....I was thinking of taking the 18-55mm f/2.8 -4.0 and the 16mm. Thinking of leaving the wonderful 50-140mm at home to travel as light as possible.

    I travel a lot and ever since getting the 16mm, it's the only lens I take (on an XT-2) ... unless it's to a less affluent and higher crime rate country, then its the 27mm (on an XE-2) for discretion.

  • @Boredtubedeath
    @Boredtubedeath Před 6 lety +1

    I know you love the 16mm 1.4, but I owned it for 6 months and really couldn't get a good feel for it. Yes it's sharp as hell. But it suffers from bad coma making it worthless for astro stuff. It's beautiful for landscapes, but I have many other lenses I can step down and get a similar result. It's really too wide for much general work, and tbh if I'm going wide I'd prefer to really go wide and use my 14mm or 12mm. It's a great lens technically, but I failed to find a consistent use for it.

  • @stevelink21

    Hey Ken. Yes, I agree that the XF23 f/2 is incredible. However, what's that other lens next to your iMac? The XF55-200 or the 16-55? I actually use both, and I would say that my 3 travel lens kit would consist of the XF23 f/2, XF16-55, and the XF55-200. While you certainly have me intrigued by your praises for the XF16 f/1.4, the reason I opted for the XF16-55 f/2.8 was in fact the 16mm wide end, along with reviews and testing. That zoom is absolutely incredible in terms of sharpness, AF speed and build quality! It complements the XF55-200 easily. Unlike you, who has multiple copies of lenses and cameras, I unfortunately, have to be highly selective in my photographic purchasing decisions.

    Hi, Great Video. Was looking for some advice, please. Just getting the X-T2 and I'm thinking about which one lens to purchase with? is it worth it if I ditch the kit lens and go straight to 23mm F2 or even 16mm f/1.4 which is much more expensive! or maybe any other recommendations and advice you might have? The camera is going to be used to take pictures of the new born baby, portraits, video and general use so I'm not really concerned about action shooting or tele! would hugely appreciate your advice. hi Theoria , i have a very low budget and i found that Olympus used cameras are very less expepsive than Fuji camers and the lens too, i mainly shoot Portraits and Fashion shows with low light, i have planned to get a used Olympus M5 and a 45mm f1.8 which comes around $450 where fuji systems costs $800 (fuji x-t1 and 56 f1.2), pls suggest....thanks.

    • @00fabian7
      @00fabian7 Před 7 lety +1

      Vijayasekar Muthumani Lowlight + portraiture are the biggest caviats of the m43 system. Due to the sensor size, as said above, you get less Depth of Field (DoF) and you'll need faster apertures for low light situations compared to APS-C/FullFrame (FF) systems (without adjusting ISO). You can overcome that a bit with stabilized sensors/lenses, but only if you have long exposures (so for fashion shows a no-go).
      The only thing I'd say is that it's still doable'ish for M43 but you'll most likely need to utilize/learn about flashes.
      Sadly you're actually looking for the few points m43 is still lacking.

      in low light situations olympus is not the best camera. too noisy even at 3200 and slow. in travel however its a very good camera. much faster than my fuji and it makes better pictures of moving objects. I owned olympus omd-10m2. now ihave fuji xt-20 so i can compare...

    The 27mm is slower than the 23f2 its a fact but it is not «slooooooooow» at all and very sharp.... noisy for sure. For me the 27mm on a xt2 is as fast as the 23 on a xt1 (in good light)

    Watching all your videos at the moment, helping me out a great deal. I've just bought a old used x pro 1 and an asahi 28mm f3.5 and in love with what it produces. Looking to now sell off my canon gear and go full Fuji. Thank you for your videos. Now to decide on an x pro 2, xt2, xh1 or wait for the xt3. Decisions decisions. The glass is more important I suppose and reading excellent things about the 16mm f1.4. I'm not a megapixel chaser so might get this first and try it on the xpro1 and see how it goes.

    just got back to texas from colorado, i bought the 16-55 to take with me and its a keeper. I love the piss out of it, briefly shot with the 35f2, the 14 2.8 i took with me i didn't used once. i bought the 55-200 last year to take to estes park and its good, but telephoto just isn't my thing. ill probably sell the 14mm now, i love the 16-55 so much, the weight doesn't bother me, and ill get the 23f2.

    • @raphaelleite4931
      @raphaelleite4931 Před 7 lety +1

      no, i have the 16-55now, the 14, the 35f2 and 1.4, the 56 1.2, the 18-55, the 55-200, and some legacy glass and adapters.... so happy with the 16-55 i feel like i have that focal range covered, its hard to justify the expense now, i think i may upgrade the body(xe2) soon, fuji takes such good care of me with firmware updates that actually add features and function that i don't NEED a new camera body but..... i feel like doing more business with them since they take care of me as a consumer. Most of my work is landscape and portraiture.... i don't need the speed of the xt2 but I've got the itch and the higher megapixel count won't hurt!

    • @stevelink21
      @stevelink21 Před 7 lety

      Hi Raphael. Yes, I totally agree with you about the XF16-55...an absolutely stunning, professional-quality lens in terms of sharpness, AF speed, build quality and ergonomics! I'd say it equals primes in most of its' range, and that's incredible for a zoom. 10 years ago, I would have said "No way" am I going to buy a zoom, since I'm a sharpness fanatic, and always used primes only for the last 35+ years. Not anymore. BTW, have you tried the XF90 f/2? I truly think that's the absolute sharpest lens I've ever used, period. (And I've used alot...maybe not as many as Ken, but many dozen over several systems from 35mm up to 4x5 and 8x10 large format.)

    can you compare xf14mm 2.8, xf16mm 1.4, xf23mm 2.0 against 10-24mm f4 at 14, 16 & 23mm? i want to know if there is a special characteristic from those primes that you won't get from 10-24 aside from the aperture :) - i have 10-24 & 35 f2 and i'm super happy and addicted with those lens, that same addiction is also the reason i'm having this itch to get either 14, 16 or 23 :)

      I can get a used 23mm F1.4 for $350, was offered to me a while back, but I held off for this. Need a good head to head between this, my pancake and the F2 to decide for sure. Weights not really a factor, i'm keeping the pancake. Only IQ. The pancake colors need a fair bit of boost to them but its sharp enough.

      The sharpest lens I've shot with was the 35mm F2. I didn't really want t to give it back. Its also only $380 new. It had really lovely jpg shots, It is nice to say yep that's totally fine. The pancake needs tweaking to get it look good. If this new F2 23mm has that characteristic then its my choice for sure.

    I like your reviews, you seem to be very through. Just curious if you have a portfolio or something to view online. You're reviews tend to focus on tech aspects and opinion. Honestly tech aspects are fine, they mean something. But I'd like to see some of your work. I mean it's all about the image right? Anyone can grab a lens and test it's aspects, but it's what you can do with it that matters. What do you do with your gear? Can we see?
