  • Cycling the world - Europe: 146 episode
    This is seventh episode of the Montsec Bikepacking Loop in Catalonia, where unexpected kindness and nature's challenges blend into an unforgettable journey. The night before, in the quaint hamlet of Castellnou de Montsec, home to just one permanent resident, I encountered two brothers with a passion for cycling. Their offer of hot tea blossomed into dinner and a warm invitation to sleep indoors, a gesture of hospitality that extended our conversations well past breakfast as snow began to fall outside. Setting out later than anticipated, I faced the first hour of travel under a snowfall that soon gave way to clearing skies. The day's journey involved a strenuous climb amidst cold wind and fog, followed by a lengthy descent to a water reservoir. The path challenged me with frequent mud traps, leading to an arrival at the shore by sunset, far later than expected. With darkness encroaching and no viable camping spots due to wet and muddy fields, I pressed on to a village where I finally found refuge for the night.

    Nice video Davide. Sorry to see the problems with the mud. Did you ever try using a wax based chain lubricant? These are supposed to be much more resistant to mud build up. Cheers.

      @DavideTravelli  Před 4 měsíci

      Hey George! When the bike is covered in mud I dont think the lubricant can do much really and I surely dont have the resources to buy a different lubricant to use just a few days. Maybe the day I'll win the lottery! 😅

    Can I ask why you distribute so much of your weight forward and over the forks? I very much enjoyed this video

      @parsaerfani7973 Před 4 měsíci +1

      I personally do It because I want to take weight off my back wheel and it gives you a nice drag on downhills🤣

      If you liked this episode you can go back a few episodes and you will catch the start of this route called Montsec Bikepacking Loop (first episode czcams.com/video/R6loRZHSpl4/video.html ).
      Front loading has a few benefits the main ones being better weight distribution (body weight sits or the most part on the back) and better handling of the bike especially downhill and on lose terrains.

    9:55 exactly the same thoughts. I wish in the future i can afford a pinion bike, or at least a rohloff hub

      @DavideTravelli  Před 4 měsíci

      Pinion said they would give me one for free but I need to find a bike manufacturer interested in sponsoring the frame.

      @@DavideTravelli i was thinking about building my own, but only could find downhill frames that fit
      Wish you luck! That would be a nice upgrade

      @@DavideTravellithere is a company in America, Priority, that makes a 600 (gravel) and 600x(mountain) model that runs a pinion. They sponsor youtuber with a 600x model. Maybe they can help out if you already have a pinion?

    • @DavideTravelli
      @DavideTravelli  Před 4 měsíci

      Yeah I was in touch with Priority, cool guys however due to the extreme nature of my travelling the 600x required a few modifications and it wouldnt make too much sense for them to sponsor me a bike when I'm using something pretty different from the model they sell, they thought it would confuse clients. I would have replaced the suspension fork with a rigid one, mechanical disk breaks, tires, saddle, handlebar etc.

    Do you actually have a review somewhere of your Cumulus down jacket? I can’t find it 🤔 only your sleeping bag

    • @DavideTravelli
      @DavideTravelli  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Hiya! Nope, never thought of making one. I bought it before starting crossing Africa is still with me. It has hydrophobic down, it packs down small and it's quite warm for the weight. I use it at campsite when I feel cold and a lot in winter, after so many years of usage I still havent had to wash it. They might have newer models but I'm happy with this one. I think that's all there is to know.

    • @user-hz4wu8xr5e
      @user-hz4wu8xr5e Před 3 měsíci +1

      @@DavideTravelli thanks🙏 and you wouldn’t buy one just a bit warmer than this one, if you have the choice today? I bought the Cumulus 450 sleeping bag after your review, and that’s was a great choice for me 👌

    • @DavideTravelli
      @DavideTravelli  Před 3 měsíci +1

      @user-hz4wu8xr5e I think they have a warmer jacket but for me this is enough. In case I also have my rain jacket that is a hardshell and I can layer up.
