Del taking a beating for Rodney and then revealing that’s why he never married despite being engaged, he knew he was all Rodney could really rely on and he chose to give up his life for his little brother and that’s why Del is a tragic hero
Think that's why Rodney named his daughter Joan after their mum. It wasn't just a tribute to her but also to Del Boy as he had lost her and grandad, and knew Rodney was his half brother, but Rodney strengthened the family again by bringing Joanie back in the family by having a little girl named after her. So sweet really. Del was completely broken hearted when he lost his mum, so I think it's so sweet that Rodney thought that much of him he wanted to bring him comfort in some way - was such a lovely gesture.
The scene at the wedding doo with Simply Red playing and Rodney leaving Del standing alone is an absolute masterpiece in writing. Comedy and sadness in the same scene. Absolutely superb writing
His gonna be in the Frasier reboot and I can't wait to see him back if you think about it the Trotter brothers and the Crane boys are polar opposites and similar two brothers ,dead Mother an old man , cant wait to see this reboot. And see Nick lyndhurst back.
Del boy was much smarter than he let on. He knew when to be clever and when his brother needed a dad. I had to do that for my sister when we lost our dad. It's not easy, but good on him for doing it.
When filming this scene in one take, John Sullivan the writer and creator was disappointed at first cuz the audience weren't laughing as much. But when he turned around they were crying. Which in acting it's harder to achieve tears than laughter.
To me the greatest scene is when Demian is born, Del is holding him next to the open window in the hospital hall and looking in the direction of the sky speeking with mom and showing her's first grandchild. Whole series above everything has message that family is everything and whole purpose of our lives.
I've been through many movies, TV shows and video games in my time, a lot of them set out with the sole intent of being profound and emotional. Yet this show has some of the most heart-breaking moments and truthfully honest displays of life I've seen, and it's designed as a comedy. That's the mark of a true masterpiece, thank you Mr Sullivan.
Brilliant. So many other scenes just like these: Grandad's war speech in the nuclear shelter, Del & Rodney's big row with Del not going to Australia, Uncle Albert reminiscing at Tobacco Dock, Uncle Albert telling the boys he fell down the cellar trap door to pay for Grandad's headstone, the endings of "Diamonds are for Heather" and "A Royal Flush"........and so many more.....
The scene with grandad hits hard man. Literally had that same conversation with my cousin the day of my mams funeral. No tears came, i tried, but they just wouldnt come. As del says, play the tough guy for so long, you cant be anything else
You know these pair are ruddy good actors but my god they were bloody brilliant in the serious, heart rending scenes. I’ve just watched these scenes later on in life & it gave me all the feels, nostalgic feels. You will never get the like again. Acting at its finest.
I find it difficult to show my emotions, after being subjected to narcisstic abuse, and amateur dramatics helped a lot. Feeling emotions through acting or how actors show emotions in their roles
I know a lot of die-hard fans of the series didn't like the extended ending where they got some of their money back, but for the sake of Cassandra and Rodders (that dipstick), it was worth it to see them have their kiddo.
I also like how Uncle Albert got some of their fortune back from beyond the grave. It makes it so impactful that nearly every key moment of Del being selfless (taking Albert in, giving up the Australian deal, freeing Raquel from Slater) played into him getting his happy ending. I admit while it does drag out the series a bit, I think Del losing the money also shows how pivotal this was, that if he really had just decided to care about success and go solo, he likely would have blown it and been left alone in the end. His family made sure it stuck.
I lost my grandad last year, and it took this video to finally bring on the tears...I worry that it took this long, but believe me, he was one of my heroes, and I miss him dreadfully...😢❤#ripgrandad #heartbroken
I hear you pal. I was living in my maternal grandparents house first few years when I was born. Single mother in 80s Catholic Ireland and all... I was the only boy in the family too. All cousins are girls. So I had a very close relationship with him. In school my two half sisters and I would be dropped down before school 2-3 days a week because step dad worked nights and mam would be working early. In secondary school I'd come down for my lunch 3 days a week. He was a life long soldier and a voracious reader. He got me into books. Took me to Batman in 1989 when I was 5. Every week he would give me a packet of Batman cards and a pound. For Christmas he got me Batmobile, Joker and Batman. When I got into the Turtles he got his brother in England to find some, they were IMPOSSIBLE to get here and got them sent over. They had a picture of me as a baby on the sitting room wall until I took the house over. He died in 2010, my nana is 97 in a home. I have his house keys. With a 1988 commemorative 50p celebrating the millennium of Dublin, and his old McCarthy crest metal keyring. My middle name is his. I've still got tons of his books and have framed pics of his official army portraits...he was absolutely my hero. A wonderful man who went to mass daily but who told a nun, in 1984, trying to get my mam to give me up, but only referring to me as 'the bastard' that he would strangle her there and then if she spoke one more word, that his grandson has a home. My mam said she never seen him so angry and full of rage....i learned so much from him and I still miss him, to be honest, more often than my step dad...its why I changed my surname back to his and if myself and missus have kids his name will be passed on. I know what you are feeling and it's a nightmare of bad feelings and anxiety and pain... But you can take. You will take it and the good memories will shine through any darkness mate. I really mean that. Glad this video could give you some cathartic release and trust me, more will come. Guarantee he would be very proud of you. All the best David 👍 ☀ ✌️
It's amazing that Ronnie was able to do this, British comedy is often quite dark, but for one of if not the funniest sitcom to have episode that deal with loss of real life people not once but twice. The idea of having one of the funniest Christmas specials of all time be one about a miscarriage shows his talent.
The calibre of writing and acting surpasses anything i have seen. Even as a kid i remembered the tenderness and tragedy of those earlier scenes. To mix comedy and to have that identifiable sibling relationship we all followed as they grew older is something rare in television. Top class ❤️
I have DEL BOY tattooed across my fingers and a tat of the van... Absolutely huge fan of the show. My step dad who died when I was 19 was a massive fan of the show, named Derek and sort of a short, squat guy like Del. We had our differences and barely spoke for years but I've such fond memories of watching this with him and hearing his catchphrases on the show...he'd hear the doorbell go for a takeaway and slap his hands together and say 'cushty'...words like 'wally' and 'plonker' were used frequently. There is a very strong sense of family and some very emotional and poignant moments in this show that just makes you love and care about the characters more and more. I will say... Not leaving them as millionaires was the worst mistake ever... Oh and Rock and Chips is SO underrated... Kellie Bright as Dels and Rodney's mam Joan is an INCREDIBLE performance... And of course Nicholas plays Freddy The Frog... If any OFAH fans havnt seen Rock and Chips then please check the prequel out. So, to all OFAH fans, old and new, all over the world, I wish ye all the best and sending you all ☀ ✌️ ♥ 🥂 ☺ from 🇮🇪 you guys are the best. You are aware that you are watching actors, but you never see any actual acting from anyone in the series. They just become those characters. Fantastic stuff.
So many people say this should have ended when they became millionaires but I disagree completely this show was more about family than money and I think rodney getting his daughter and naming her after his last mum is the perfect ending
Del owed the Driscoll brothers money and instead of paying his debt he gave the money, as he had promised, to Rodney for the flat so the Driscoll brothers had Del beaten up
Del taking a beating for Rodney and then revealing that’s why he never married despite being engaged, he knew he was all Rodney could really rely on and he chose to give up his life for his little brother and that’s why Del is a tragic hero
I love delboy
There was, is and only ever will be....one Derek Trotter
Making millions on that watch was what they both deserved
Was a tragic hero but everything turned out for del in the end
