Days Two and Three of the USS KIDD's transit to the Thoma-Sea shipyard in Houma, Louisiana.
The USS KIDD (DD-661) exited the Mississippi River in the early morning of May 1, 2024, entering the Gulf of Mexico. The motor vessel "Big Eddie" unfaced (detached) from the stern of the ship, leaving the motor vessel "Crosby Integrity" to solely tow the USS KIDD through the Gulf.
On May 2, 2024, the third day of the transit, the motor vessel "Crosby Carrier" met the USS KIDD at the entrance of the Houma Navigation Canal (HNC), facing up (attaching) to her stern while the motor vessel "Crosby Integrity" continued to lead the tow. During this time, the motor vessel "Big Eddie" was traveling back up the Mississippi River and through the Algiers Lock to assist in the mooring of the USS KIDD once she arrived at the Thoma-Sea shipyard.
The USS KIDD was moored adjacent to the drydock. She is now undergoing pier side renovations while awaiting her scheduled drydocking in August of 2024.
The tow operation was conducted by Crosby Tugs, LLC. The transit of the USS KIDD was made possible by the collaboration of the following companies: McKinney Salvage and Heavy Lift, Crosby Tugs, Budwine & Associates, T&T Salvage, Verret Shipyard, Historic Ships Preservation Consultants, Thoma-Sea, and Johnson Marine Services.
The support of our community, through their donations, will allow us to continue preserving the ship.
The USS KIDD Veterans Museum is a non-funded state agency that receives no regular state or federal funding. To support this once-in-a-generation drydocking effort, click here to donate: www.usskidd.com/support-our-mission/membership/donate-to-uss-kidd/

Beautiful footage! I wore your "world tour" t-shirt to my second drydocking tour under the New Jersey and Ryan got a kick out of it. I really enjoy Parks' sense of humor 😁
Been to that shipyard, just about a year ago, when the C/P Arctic Fjord was about to go in the water, that was cool to see the move down the channel~ they had to dredge it to get the Fjoud out, but even then they had a barge under the stern, and airbags at the bow, that's a tough place. My Uncle served on a sip like this, after WWII some time.
I've been able to have the opportunity twice to enjoy visiting this wonderful naval museum and I will never forget either visit especially because my friend that was with me both times has since passed away !!! What a memorable amazing experience it was to be immersed in such a way to learn what those sailors did for our country ! Thank you all for your service to our country and for restoring this amazing ship
Thank you! Glad you had such a great experience and that you got to share it with your friend. Hope you can come again after we get home and see some of the work that we're doing.
