Originally founded as Burlington County College in 1966, the doors first opened to 1,051 students in 1969 at Lenape High School. The original Pemberton campus opened later in 1971 and a year later received accreditation.
I took classes at BCC from 2011-2015 right before the rebranding and was also a student worker in registration at the Parker building as well as the art gallery/supply store in Mount Holly. From what I heard, the art store there is no longer there and is now office space for the culinary instructors, and the gallery has scaled back a bit. In 2010 I helped Student Services in Pemberton relocate from their old office (seen at 9:13) to a smaller space upstairs. While I resided closer to the Mount Laurel campus, I took the bulk of my classes in Pemberton. Used to love the library and the individual study cubicles and rooms they had upstairs which Mount Laurel didn't offer (at least at the time). Of course can't forget their radio station (The Pulse of Burlington County, anyone?). So sad to see years of memories abandoned and decaying...
Thank you for sharing we love these kinds of stories. It’s always nice to hear for people use used these buildings for their intended purpose.
I used to go to the gym before my morning classes. My friend and I after our night class on Tuesdays would go to Slacks hoagies in Mt.Luarel. Also gone sadly
This absolutely breaks my heart to watch but at the same time makes me smile. I was super excited to go to this campus growing up, came here for a couple different programs. Its only five minutes away then i heard they were shutting it down after rowan joined the college...
Thank you for sharing your story we love hearing them.
The Study Hall you were in toward the end was where I had my last class before graduation. Psychology 101 or 201 I can’t remember. Thanks for posting. I have a lot of good memories there.
You’re welcome. Happy to share.
I attended BCC 1984-1987. My classes were in The original building The Parker Center. The building you toured was built later. Lots of memories of that place. Sadly, just not viable, and over time it will be destroyed through vandalism and decay.
Thank you for sharing. We had a great time exploring here. We do hope as well something can happen here.
I remember the days when I used to work at this campus. I used to go to each class and give out their supply.
Sad how they just left it all behind and walked away
This one was quite interesting to watch! Nice job with this one 🔥
Thank you so much
My mom attended this college in 1993 -1998, part time, while working full- time. She loved so many of her teachers. Psych Prof Charles Hammill and Prof Charles Swannell were her two favorites. Prof Swannell used to call her from down the hall, Stanish! My perpetual student! She loved that. She often speaks of Prof Hammill and what a good man he was. He was the first one to tell her being sensitive is a gift. He was important to her.
She told me about how she loved the beautiful pool. She had taken me to the swim lessons from the time I was six months old until I was four years. I’ve seen the videos and photos.
Mom had to stop watching the video pretty early on. She was crying. She said it broke her heart to see how others disrespected her school which changed the course of her life.
Thanks for having this video on CZcams.
We do appologize for bring your mother to tears, that is not our intention for any of this. It's only to share the history of these once loved places.
Hammill was a great guy. Had him nearly 40 years ago. Sadly he has passed away.
Wow, I got my nursing degree at BCC. This brings back so many memories. Sad to see the campus looking like that.
Congrats on your degree. Not to spread bad news, I've heard its a lot worse now.
I got my Nursing degree there too, graduated 1992.
9:18 where you aren't sure what the room was... I think it changed over the years, but at one point it was office space. I think before that it may have been part of the library before the separate library building was built later. Loved the video! I went there during the height of the enrollment period. Took me right back to walking those halls, sitting in the big lecture room, at lab tables, getting snacks from the bookstore and chilling in the octogan lounge area between classes.
Thank you for sharing this with us we love hearing these stories.
When i was there in 2009 or so I think it was like, guidance counselors or something. I clearly remember sitting in one of those cubes with someone.
The original library was in The Parker Center. That Atrium is a newer building.
I taught here, in the Parker Building, in the early 2000's. Although, it was an older facility, it was very much alive with student and faculty activity.
I visited the campus today - couldn't get in, but walked the property. I was disappointed at the amount of vandalism that I could see on the outside, and your video shows so much more on the inside. I can't imagine the reasoning behind all of that destruction. Sadly, resurrecting this property will be much more difficult because of the damage.
The good news is that nature is reclaiming the property - I saw lots of wildlife and beautiful flowers, trees, etc.
Thank you for sharing this with us we love these stories makes our videos so much more human. As for the vandalism we don’t understand it either our goal is to share the history and nothing more.
Heart breaking. That was my college from 2008-2011 and I graduated with my associates degree. I rode to the campus today on my motorcycle and it breaks my heart seeing the buildings ruined the way they are. The building at the 3:37 mark is now demolished and only the slab remains.
I heard it’s gotten much worse from when I was there to make this video. I kinda recall hearing about a fire as well.
@@KenopsiaExplorers yeah a lot of windows are smashed out and parts of the siding have fallen off
This is the first college I went to. Needless to say, this is depressing to watch (especially since while I attended this college, I also visited the Burlington Center Mall in 2015, which also fell into disarray).
Thankfully, in terms of decay, the campus still looks salvageable. However, that really isn't saying much because even the last time I visited the inside of this campus in 2017, it looked unkempt. At 6:48 and 9:07, these cubicles were deserted even when I was there (2014-2017). Regardless, I can't thank you enough for recording this footage.
Thank you for sharing this with us, do you know what those cubicles were used for?
@@KenopsiaExplorers My best guess is that they used to be used for setting up payments of classes and even selecting classes. At 9:34, you can still see a banner that says "Business Office." When I took a picture of the office underneath it back in 2015, it was covered in banners labeled "Payment."
In my handbook for that time, the room the cubicles were in was labeled as "Under Construction." So, my theory is that they moved on to the second floor into "Student Services" and left the cubicles to be transitioned into something else. Whatever they had in mind, we'll never know.
I thought that too, just seemed like so many for that but I from what I read back in its prime it was a full campus, maybe they needed all of that space.
My graduating class 2011 most of my friends went to this college. Crazy seems like it happened in a flash!
It is crazy how just like that and you didn’t even know it, would be the last time you walked those halls. The last time anyone would walk though halls.
I can’t believe this campus closed down
Sad but it makes sense someone said that in the end enrollment was way down.
hi sweet friend Kenya
Omg. This is so depressing. So sad! Kids broke into the college and vandalized…. Long sigh.
Kovid Kids are destroying everything.
@3:29, the hall I was in after the first plane struck the WTC on 9/11. Time stood still.
I remember that moment in time like it was yesterday.
FYI, Pemberton PD Dept is literally across the street from this place, and they do heavily patrol this campus. Don't get caught here because the PD will arrest and fine you since there's been a string of arson fires here.
I read about the fires why can’t people just look with their eyes
9:13 I know part of that space was where financial aid, registration, accounting department was circa 2008
Thanks for sharing. We do enjoy all of these comments.
If this is Berkeley County College I explored part of it last year was mad fun
It is not but that means another NJ college
Sad seeing this trashed, my son took swim lessons here for quite some time. 15 minutes from home.... what a waste
From what I understand it’s a lot worse now. There was a fire too.
the building has since caught on fire! They still haven't done anything with it
I have heard that
Pemberton NJ police have entered the chat.
The chat?
Hey guys how did you get in? And it looks like there is alote of parking huh. Much respect
Sorry just saw this, it was held for review, lots of climbing to be honest.
Can I ask how you got in because I am going to be driving to that college all the way from Albuquerque New Mexico
@@KenopsiaExplorers i dont know if you have already went but i live around this college and have gone inside and there are multiple ways to get in but there are multiple buildings. You just look for the windows that are broken
@@thatonekid1277 pretty much!
Nice one
Thank you so much
It was a great school in 1980..beautiful building
Sad how places end up like this.
9:20 mark. That space was the admissions office and other administrators.
Thank you.
Someone set a part of it on fire couple of months ago..such a waste of a building 😢
I had heard that. Such a shame.
Such a shame.
It is. Sadly most of the time there’s just no money to do anything.
Was the power on?
Sadly no, we tried in a few places
My great grandmother worked in the library there
Thank you for sharing
