Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Grew up in Sunbury. I'm nostalgic about the time I spent there but wouldn't want to live there or near it ever again. It's amazing what can become your normal, when you don't know anything better. People saying it doesn't look that bad, don't be fooled. It can be be pretty bad there. Of course there are worse places. People who think Camden is far worse, sure some areas are, some aren't. I've worked in Camden, Trenton, Elizabeth, Newark, Pennasuken, West Philly... Elizabeth was the place that made me the most nervous because of the projects apartments we were working in. They found a bunch of guns in one unit, the elevators and windows had bullet holes in them. Graffiti all over the place. Some of the residents thought the guy with me was a cop. The funny thing is he lived in Camden. If you were to expand Sunbury to the size of Camden or some other city, I'm sure it would be near the top of the crap pile of cities with really high crime rates. If you've ever been to Jamaica, there are parts of that country that make Camden look fancy. It's all relative.
I remember nights when the cops wouldn't come into Sunbury Village if they were called. Usually on mischief night but there were others. My buddy is the cop that got shot at in Sunbury back in around 2014. Anyway, if you live here or someplace like it, there is better out there. Keep grinding and do what you can to get out. Good luck.

You really have to go there Friday or Saturday night during spring and summer to get the full experience.
Pemberton Blvd and Evergreen areas are nice.

I used to live in Browns Mills, used to come up that way. Was a nice neighborhood, it’s amazing to see how fast people can make a place so sh!ty. Congratulations on the high crime as well. Move from a place with high crime and litter in the streets, to nice clean safe place, and then, wonder “why does crime and trash always show up where I do?” Sad, R.I.P. Pemberton

Man listen being born and raised in Camden and seeing all the crimes out there and I mean Alot.. To me this place is very beautiful if this a hood its because people wanted to be a hood because they want to be hood because they impress by what goes on in the hood to me people living out here should just enjoy life I know disagreements might lead to s fight sometimes but besides that dont turn something into a hood if it's not and some people actually from the hood probably moved out there but for ones that didn't dint be a wanna be om not saying be a punk but the the right thing because it looks like Pemberton got my opportunities to make it then somebody from Camden Trenton Philly etc...

Honestly bro I'd feel the same way, I fell like I'd rather live there than some places I've lived, but I also understand that they dont play and it's not the easiest place to live. Your from the streets so I aint gotta explain... when you live in poverty and got a bad situation , moms on dope, dads in jail, wherever you live isnt as important.. the struggle is everywhere ,just not always as visible as it is in CMD.

Nah I from there knowbody wants to be hood, I can almost bet it goes down out there just as much as Camden (this ain’t down the hwy) out there it’s the conditions in that area that made it what it is, it go down out there and not just anybody can go there and ‘chill’ even Camden has been run up outta there! When I was out there it was crazy money and dudes could rumble or shoot! And just living in Sunbury gets you labeled from the start of school,so the opportunities is slim! I’ve seen people make it out but not everyone has the focus to do it! And nah it ain’t some niggas from cities that made it that way WE actually moved a certain way because it was our Hood and wouldn’t allow outsiders to dictate our spot! I moved to West Philly when I was 15(but still was back and forth) and only real difference is there was more ppl in Philly! So don’t think because this little hood is not in Camden or Trenton that it ain’t on the map!!! Me and my niggas ran that shit out there, most dudes ain’t never seen 20k laying in the street at dice game or everybody getting a dolla got a foreign whip. I could go on for days about that spot shit most folks wouldn’t believe happened out there! Either way salute the real ones that rep that Sb alumni!!!

@UCVMO_VtnRB1W2UkgF9kaVcA 🤔🤔….🤣🤣 Now there are no schools in ‘sunbury’ for there to be a drug block across from and of course everyone isn’t solid but yes there are crooked cops out there just like anywhere else in there world. If you was out there and you felt safe it was because who you was with and that’s all good. It’s definitely opportunities but in the village the culture is to get it NOW because most don’t have the chances or the tools so they turn to drugs and street life! As I said before and I actually lived it you are labeled from the start of school unlike (browns mills,lv, ect) the poverty is much higher in that area high drug use and selling! So they treat you as if you ain’t shit from day one and the opportunity door is slimmer than those from other parts! Proper guidance they def can make it out but who has guidance when mom is on drugs and dads in jail?? I am ALL for making things better and bringing MY people up shit I am 40+ I want us all to win!! I said what I said simply because you was talking as if it’s a bunch of wannabes trying to be something they not when that is actually who they are! I come from experience and been to area’s where that is true but I don’t see that out there!!

I do gig work sometimes. Delivered to sunberry a few times. Dicey. It's weird how they main road looks so nice and you go over 1-2 blocks and it looks like in this video. Some houses have trash spilled across their front yard and street, and the next house over looks great. Maybe a bunch of rotten apples making the area look bad.

What I know as the hole in the wall was the little cluster of houses off of Pemberton Browns Mills Road. Browns Mills Ave is one of the streets. Its really only about a block in size. If you were driving toward Browns Mills, it would be on your left hand side. It was before that Plaza where the old ACME used to be. Not too much to see now. It's not as trashy as it used to be. Probably only worth going through if you happen to be in Browns Mills.

Is that a question or a statement? Now you have me wondering if he is still around. He'd be about 70 now though. I used to talk to him every once in a while when I Iived there. That man was a beast. I watched him pick up the back of a late 90's VW Jetta and take two steps to the side and put the one wheel up on a curb. Another time he was sitting on my friends porch and breaking garden bricks in half. He made it look so easy, so I tried it. I thought I broke my hand, 😄. I miss Big John...
