My Dad did basic training at Ft Dix in 1970 and we ended up living there from 1981-89. My Dad also retired at Ft. Dix. When we first got there we stayed at the Doughboy Inn then garden terrace then Kennedy courts. Times have changed and the base has changed and I miss my time in Ft Dix. Thank you all for your service and thank you for defending my freedom. And welcome home.
God bless all military personnel and their families

Was stationed at "" Hotel Dix " ( because back then was an open post, no gate guards ) 2/71 to 5/71 for boot camp & AIT ( 36K20 ). Got to go home every weekend. From there got sent to sunny warm Viet Nam. Our basic company was the last ones to live in old WW2 condemned barracks in front of a small lake. Only cost $0.75 cent for a taxi ride anywhere on the Post. Had great PX & a place to buy cheap meals.

Thank- you ALL for your service. The chapel that is shown, is where my dad was CHAPLAIN for the 2 years we were stationed at Fort Dix. We lived in Grove Park,, which is to the right, just as you get to the corner the chapel sets on. Lived there from 67-69, until dad got assigned to VIET NAM. (he came home). I think the house I lived in is no longer there. Thanks for the video

Thanks for this video, and thanks for the tour. 1985 for me, at Ford Dix. Jun - Aug. Basic Training. 4th platoon, 1st Battalion, 3rd basic training brigade. I remember many places there, but not really specific. I ate at one or two mess halls; slept in one barracks (mostly). I went to a bank at times to "forward my money" to home. I got a hair cut every 2 weeks, even though I didn't need it. The helmet was not very comfortable! At times, living outside tested me! Night maneuvers and such. Bivouac, and Field Fire! I learned that even I can do these things! I CAN do these things! Also, for me, it wasn't about being the best. it was about confirming that I can do these things, AND (in a selfish way), back then, that others would know that I'M ALSO someone they should no longer just push aside anymore.

@2:20 Is where I did basic. The far building the camera is seeing is Alpha Company 2/39th. I was next door at Bravo Company. The building in the foreground is where cooks did AIT. The “back end of that mess hall” was the one I ate in. Pull ups to go in, eat it now taste it later, push ups to come out. Oh to be young and in the prime of youth.

The building referred to as building on corner at 7:22 was 8th Bn headquarters for 98th Division until 2009 ish and I worked there while stationed at Ft. Dix 2006-2007. It is at corner of 8th and Doughboy. The parking lot just outside that building and grass field was replaced with one huge parking lot in June, 2007. The building housed the 1SG and Commander's offices, work stations and a large area in back with a stage for inprocessing. Often we had prisoners from the neighboring prison who would come and buff our floors. Some of them were really nice, like Mr. Lindo. I worked here and lived in billets on 6th Street, off of 8th Street. I will never forget my time here.

BCT Fort Dix 10/14/68-12/22/68 2nd BCT Brigade Pioneers,Co.B 2nd Brigade. Co.1Lt Gill, training officer1Lt Borland, training field first PSG Smith, DI SSG Martin, retread from Marines and meanest sob I ever met and SSG Miller. In first video I saw volleyball, where in hell did that come from, brigade activities in 1968 was 20 hours of KP. We trained 6 days a week to complete a shortened basic due to Christmas. Our motto was WETSU!!! Anyone out there have fond memories Fort Dix before going to AIT at fort Polk or Leonardwood or Bragg, Fayettnam!! PT was done in our combat boots not running shoes. I’d reenlist today with these creature comforts, my wife of 52 years probably wouldn’t be real happy😂🇺🇸🇺🇸

I was 24 years old when I arrived for Basic @ Ft. Dix, That was 1989, my Company was B526 it was the month of Feb, very cold. but I did that by design I wanted to be there in cooler temps, being from Long Island I was used to the cold so it did not effect me as much, I remember some of the southern troops we had where having a hard time. great training, Being 24 yrs old everyone called me old man, at 24 I was an old man, I guess with 18 and 19 yr. olds I suppose I was, I have to say I actually enjoyed boot camp, when some of those young men where to tears at time, they would look at me and I would be always smiling of which they could not understand, so I told them try being Married having a bitch of a wife, bills, working like a dog for next to nothing, raising a 6 year old, now that's hard, Basic training was great, funny thing was the D.Is knew when they looked at me that I just did not come from mom and dad, and at times probably enjoying it. alls I know is I was away from the wife and all the bullshit and in a place where I wanted to be, never regret ever. I n fact after my 4 year enlistment, literally 7 years later I went back in to the active reserves for another 6 years, loved the Army .
