  • In 1588 The Spanish planned for an invasion of England to secure their dominance. But instead, they sealed their fate of decline. So what if they had succeeded? What if Spain had invaded England?

    I have to correct some things,after the Spanish Armada ,England sended the contraarmada that was defeated by the Spaniards and not by the climate and it was much bigger,after the Spanish Armada we built a much more powerfull Navy so it wasnt the end of Spanish Hegemony,I think that came in the Succesion War first,then Carlos III revived the Empire and second is the Battle of Trafalgar and The Napoleonic Invasion,that was the end of Spanish hegemony,but it is a really cool video, greetings from Spain

    This is a really good concept that I've never even thought about! Imagine an America that's similar to Mexico, really Catholic and speaking Spanish..... I wonder what the world would look like after the fall of Spain? What would happen to England? Would Napoleon even rise to power, and if he did, how would the Napoleonic wars turn out differently on this timeline? Would Spanish nationalism rise, to "Reclaim the Empire" or something? If WW1 happens, and Spain still keeps the Monarchy, they'd be allied with Austria (because of the Habsburg link) and join the Central Powers. How would WW1 turn out differently? This is a really interesting scenario, and thanks for making this video!

    The invincible armada was not called the invincible armada, it was la felicísima armada, and the ships sent to England were a fraction of their whole pacific and Caribbean fleet.
    They defeated to climate, not britain as by the time they reached the British isles, they had suffered of weather misfortunes, making the gunpowder wet and breaking more than one sail, some of the ships were also sunk on the way.

      @Jonathan Smith This is incorrect. England was a very insignificant power at the time. It was never in any way the English's intention to invade Spain and convert it to Protestantism. The fact they repelled the Spanish Armada and were able to weaken Spain to a point they would more or less never recover from was an English victory.

    • @ThatAnnoyingAmerican
      @ThatAnnoyingAmerican  Před 3 lety

      @Jonathan Smith Alright, there was an attempt to land in Spain. but I think you're misunderstanding the purpose of the invasion. The English weren't trying to convert Spain. Also, I would like to see the source that listed it as Spanish Victory. The closest to that that I can find is some call it a draw as the treaty was one of status quo. In reality, the much smaller English humbled Spain greatly and exposed their weakness that other Europeans would use and exploit for decades.
      To address your second comment. I would like to make clear I am in no way trying to insult you nor the nation of Spain. But objectively speaking the Anglo-Spanish war had a positive outcome for England and a negative one for Spain

    Interesting video. But the Hapsburgs had that horrible habit of marrying within the family.. WAY too much! You might end up still with a Spanish king with no heir and then a HUGE problem with succession. That could lead to a much larger War of Spanish Succession. later on. And encompassing more of the world.

    I think you are going too far. This failed invasion didn't mark the end of the Spanish Empire nor the rise of the British Empire. It is highly overestimated by the british historiography. At best, if the invasion would have succeeded, it would have ignited a civil war in England within catholics against elizabethians and a large rebellion in Ireland but I think, at the end, things would have gone as we know them.

    • @ThatAnnoyingAmerican
