- These procedures only replaces the tensioner pulley, not the tensioner/spring system itself.
Removal of the entire tensioner is laborious and requires removal of the supercharger to access the rear retaining bolt.
I decided to replace the tensioner since the bearing was worn and it was a cheap part.
Thanks for the vid, really useful.
I need to add that Mercedes does state torque specs for both bolts, they are 20Nm for the idler pulley bolt and 25Nm for the belt tensioner pulley bolt (the safety torx one).
Thanks for your video, very detail and clear. 🙏
Bro, You just saved my sanity and my day- thank you!!
Thanks for all your videos working on the Merc. I've had to replace many of the parts that you did and I found all your vids to be of great help. You have a nice straight forward way of explaining things :)

Thanks for the comment! Glad it helped you!
Coincidentally, and unfortunately for me, my tensioner literally exploded yesterday before I got a chance to replace it. It started making noise since last week so not much warning. All that was left of it was the bolt and bearing! Fitted the new one today using this video as my guide, thanks again :)
thanks for vid. please explain in detail how to replace the spring on the sepentine tensioner pulley.you said remove the supercharger and touched the pulley.do i just remove that pulley to access the bolt you say is behind the timing case? i have a C180 1.8l kompressor 2004.i appreciate your help
Are the idler and tensioner pulleys the same part number

What if the tensioners torx bolt is stripped?
Hi, can you share where you purchased the Tensioner pulley? Also, what is the Princess Auto item # for the Titan Torx security set? I'm in Toronto, as well. Thanks. :)
Hey Jason, I got the part from a local Car Quest in the GTA. The TruckTec brand seems to be good and its holding up very well after ~8000km.
This isn't the exact item but it seems to have the security T50 in the set: www.princessauto.com/en/detail/10-pc-security-pentalobe-bit-socket-set/A-p8594574e
you can always call in your local princess auto and ask someone there to look for a set with T50 security torx in it.
I see a catch can install.. How is it? Does it work?
It theoretically does work, but I used soft silicone tubing that wasn't the best. I've found so much oil near the throttle body that I'm sure a catch can will help with. T8
I used soft silicone hoses which wasn't the best, but theoretically it should provide benefit. I found so much oil residue near the throttle body that I'm sure the catch can could pick up.
Hey, there is no other way to replace the tensioner system without removing the supercharger???
The only other way I am aware of is by going under and removing the AC compressor unit. That unit is below the super charger. I believe that will give you access to the bolt right behind the tensioner.
Thanks for your answer!
A few days ago my belt broke while i was driving because the tensioner pulley got stucked!
I buyed the whole kit ( belt, tensioner and the guide pulley) but then i watched your video when you said that i have to remove the supercharger to replace the tensioner system. I verified the tensioner and i decided to replace the pulley ; I don't think that the tensioner was damaged in any way when the belt died!!!
Yea, the tensioner might be completely fine and likely only the bearings seized on the pulley itself. Does it run ok now? If so, you are fine.
I'm pretty sure it's simple to remove the tentioner itself man: czcams.com/video/--Y5Up0l_iQ/video.html
pleas could some one send the link where to buy that pulley i really need it

but likely cheaper at your local auto store.
Ste .L thnx for the replay i really a apriciate it
I'm literally here cos my pulley completely broke off. Idk how I was able to drive home
Video has wrong title , this is the idler pulley not the spring tensioner, very big difference
No, the idler pulley is the one closest to the camera.
Title is correct, I successfully replaced my tensioner pulley using this video..saved me time and about $300!
