Patriotism is not evil, it's joyous and life affirming. We should not grovel and constantly apologise - we are demonstrably better than the vast majority of other countries in so many ways, be proud of it for God' sake.......

Being Australian born, but of British descent, I have to say that I am PROUD of Australia's historical ties to Britain. May we have an everlasting relationship, Britain! God save the Queen!
Any song which send shivers down the spine of a 20 year old lad who mostly listens to electronic and rap music etc. is worthy of national anthem status ;)

Despite the negative connotations attributed to the British Empire it cannot be denied the Empire succeeded in developing and nurturing every nation under it's control,
establishing a legacy that is cherished and grudgingly admired even today
All 54 sovereign states that were once part of the British Empire, or under it's influence have chosen to retain their links with Britain as members of the British Commonwealth of Nations.

Great song for a great Kingdom - Kingdom that despite issues and problems brought more good to the Earth than any other Empire in the history of the world. GOD SAVE THE QUEEN.
I've travelled extensively, and I know of no other with a song as patriotic as this, and as well loved as this. Even young people, as they get older, come to love this song.
We do not claim to be perfect but we are united and welcoming to anyone that wants to come here and make a good life for themselves providing they also have something to offer and not take take take as some immigrants do !

I really love this since I saw it the first time in school during music class.
It's just amazing to see how the Britains show their patriotism. Iit's sad that you can't see a patriotism like this in Germany because of things that happened over 60 years ago. I don't want to say that these things were right. Actually, they were as wrong as something could be. But we're a new generation, it's not our fault what happened.
I think people should be proud of our country.

I love seeing this last night at Proms again. Long before Utube I saw a concert on American television which was this Elger piece being played and sung. As I always love the music which is Elgers, now I also have the words and the video. Thanks to RJ who uploaded it for all. I think all people should be as patriotic as English are-- unafraid to show it.

Why people cannot just enjoy the music beats me. I know society is rapidly disintegrating but things like this partly restore my faith in humanity. Even though I am quite different from the comedian Russell Brand, I agree with his saying "Why can't everybody just love each other?"
We can't just love each other; how many Muslims are in this hall here to experience a facet of a higher form of culture in the country they emigrated to and indeed, there are no symphony orchestras in their countries; as far as they and their indigenous left-wing supporters are concerned, what The Proms represents is just some big pile of elitist racist failure.
And they say you brits aren't patriotic. I don't think I've seen a more patriotic display in my life than at the end of these Proms. I like it!

That, my friend, is a tradition when Pomp & Circumstance is performed at the Proms. It goes back to the early 1900s. Tantamount to flicking a Bic lighter at a rock concert.

I love the Queen and the monarchy but this should be the official English national anthem. The Scots, Welsh and Irish all have theirs. Keep God save the Queen for the British national anthem. A national anthem such as this may help bring back some much needed national spirit and pride back before it's too late!

What a shame that people from other countries are more aware of this fact than many, many Germans. They should, as you said, remember what happened, but also forgive. They should try to create a country they can be proud of and not try to "kill" every single attempt of patriotism because they think the patriotists are Nazis.
