Thanks for the great new video!.. have a good one Scotty!
Had two v70s. Like my old Saab 9.3 better
I had a 1998 Volvo V70R AWD. I loved that car and would purchase another. The V70R needed to have the turbo rebuilt in Champaign IL. Dad would not have it done. No more car.
Scotty the car fighter
Hay Scotty I got an odd one. If anyone else can figure it out reply. 2002 trailblazer il6 ext 211,000. When the car is cold and idles more an 5 minutes will sometimes stumble or stall. I changed my fuel regulator and cam solenoid last year because they were leaking also changed the ambient air temp sensor. I don't have a mass airflow sensor. I have a mapp sensor. Do think that could be my problem? Once the car is hot not warm hot! Full optimal temperature it idols perfectly. I still get 16 miles pergallon and drives like a new car. Please help thanks.
If you ever take a Volvo engine apart and see the design and overbuilt parts, you will agree with Scotty :)! Have owned and worked on them since the 60's! Great dependable cars :)!
I love inline 6’s
What about the transmissions? This generations t6 gets a 4 speed automatic. The 2.5t gets a 5 speed and the 3.2 gets a 6 speed. Any thoughts on which is the best?
@@RickRick552 Just change the oil .No Problems.
Here in Sweden the parts are dirt cheap and available, how is it where you live?
@@triggerhappyhippie I don't know if you asked me but here in NL owning a car is crazy expensive. Also Volvo parts are above average in price

Classy Swedish station wagon. 💚🇸🇪

They give you a 30 minute test drive in Switzerland as long as you have a good license..... Except maybe for high end cars Ferrari s etc....

Wagons need to make a comeback.

@Brian Bickle Not a thing with those. Only thing is the connector in the ECU unit for the ABS-system, from Bosch, which had to be resoldered. It costed me like 75 bucks. Almost all S/V 70 etc. had that problem.
Good for you! Love Volvos too, own one!

I’m glad that you brought up latest series of Volvo’s 70 series, I own one. It is reliable and solid made, I’m highly satisfied with what I drive! I always enjoy watching your video from Japan.
The old Volvo estate cars look good in my opinion. I like estate cars in general though. As for "old clunky" cars....not true. Volvos have always been well built cars.
Volvo always beat BMW and Mercedes but was never given the platforum of respect.
Agreed. I have a 1st generation V70 its like the in between of the modern and the old but a simple but timeless style. It looks like its 10 not 22 years old. Drives like new. The older they are the better
Old boxy is best. I have a 98 V90 and a 2015 XC70 T6. Used to have a 850 T-5 wagon, and got my license in a 164.
When I was growing up most cars would last about 10 years before ending up as scrap, Volvos and oddly enough Jaguars were the only old cars that were common on the roads.
We swedes used to make some good cars, both Volvo and Saab. I'm driving a Saab 9-5 myself ☺ I guess the only good car we still make is Koenigsegg (haha), I live just by the factory in Ängelholm so I see them all the time. But a bit to much for my budget lol
Koenigsegg's freevalve tech really is a genius system. I hope other auto manufacturers get that tech and implement it in their cars.
Agree I drive 9-3 arc
Just a bit too much?
Drove a saab 93 and it broke my heart
Nothing but faults
@@gerarddonovan8678 Unlucky m8. I've had mine for 3 years now, changed oil every year and a valve gasket. That's all.
I just got my third Volvo today v40 r design, Scotty, two litre diesel,6 speed manual,14 months old, saved £13000 pounds got all the extras, and, and over 60 miles per gallon can you believe still 22 months factory warranty, brilliant. Thanks for all the videos hope the move goes well.
Its a rebranded Ford Focus
Those imperial gallons go a lot further than skimpy US gallons. Who made the diesel engine? I had a diesel Volvo here in the states but it had a VW engine with six cylinders and a turbo, it could go but it was a real smoker.
My 2012 V70 D5 only manages 33mpg, but it's a rocket ship and I know that D5 engine will last forever. Wonderful car!
I laugh at Scotty's laughs. It never fails.
Wish you good health and happiness for years to come.
It is amazing how articulated and enthusiastic one can get -- after only 4 double Scotchs.
This wouldn't be revenge for the swipe at Bernie Sanders, would it?
Volvos are great. I got rid of mine with 185,000+ miles. The Volvo 850 T5-R wagon is the best looking wagon of all time. The new V60 Cross Country looks great too.
I love my 850 turbo! I use it as a daily driver to keep the miles off my E55 AMG
helicopter weewee that’s what I love about the 850. It basically was Volvo’s first sporty looking and luxury car. It was actually a pretty luxurious car for its time.
I brought a 850 T5 because it was my dream car. Mine was owned since new by an Army Officer and when i say that car was immaculate, i mean it was like new, mint. Volvo history, and he looked after that car like he did his children. Plenty of power and so comfortable. I only had it for a short while and the only reason i sold it was because of the fuel consumption. Very thirsty car!
The B4 VW Passat GLX VR6 and the BMW e34 touring were better looking in my opinion, but I do love my XC90!!
@@ShaneJung I had a customized B5.5 that I loved.
In my opinion, the B3 GLX was the best looking Passat. I never got over that car. The Passat used to be sold in the US as the Quantum.
I came to the video to say 'no Scotty, the best European car ever made was the Volvo 240 wagon' and here you are, earning every drop of my love with another Volvo wagon LOL, video approved
I am British and I know a number of UK Police forces use the Volvo Station wagon (We call it an Estate Car) as a standard vehicle. They can carry a lot of kit like traffic cones, Safety equipment and other stuff Police need. In addition, the car is FAST and quite suitable for Highway Patrolling (Motorway Police) activities. I have owned 3 in my days and never had a problem with them.
Love your videos! Keep up the good work Scotty! Shout outs from Mexico 🇲🇽🔥
I’m definitely going to miss your road test route! I know it by heart now.
This is one of the videos that persuaded me to getting this car and i absolutely love it. Can't wait for winter.
T6?
@@yamahaevo had to cop the t6. Its a monster. Sounds incredible.
I like that car
Love that trunk!
It's different for sure
Funny how it is the other way around here in EU. You see a lot of these cars here. And seeing a truck is very rare. People always seem to turn their heads when they see pass one by.
I've owned 3 volvos loved every single one of them. Having said that the last one I purchased was'07 and my daughter is driving it.
Hi Scotty! Had two Honda Civic's before I went to Volvo. Gotta say not as reliable as the Honda's but good cars nonetheless. I'm currently on 174000 miles on my MK1 S60 2.0 T. The 5 cylinder engine still starts like and runs champ but the suspension components need replacing which is a common thing due to the soft bushings.
The early P2s are always the most problematic. Those P2 post 03/04 are probably a lot better with updated bushing designs. The P1 Volvo's are quite durable as well and relatively easy to work on suspension wise vs the P2. Have an 02 S80 2.0T and an 04 S40 2.4i in my family. Still drives brilliantly, except the S40 needs an alignment hahaha
Suspension and engine mounts are things you better get used to fixing whilst owning a Volvo, how ever you can have peace of mind you engine and transmission will give you no trouble so long as you didn't buy an early - mid 2000s T6.
That generation was a good one for Volvo. I have a black S80 V8 with 200,000 miles. But the engine still looks brand new and feels brand new. The car practically brings me life.
Love the variety of autos you bring us for viewing. Keep it up Scotty.
One of my dorm mates from my university days had one of the old, boxy style Volvo station wagons. We were all glad for Volvo's reliability because we relied on him a lot to get us around.
warms my heart to see Scotty liking Volvos, i've always wanted one. Need to replace my 350K CRV soon
@Pslobe I want a c30 T5
Of late, Scotty has been making me wish for a second-hand Toyota and, now, a Volvo. This video too brought back fond memories of our visit to New York a couple of years ago 🥰
My 2002 model lasted for 300k miles, it had the turbo 5cylinder. It was a very good car.
4:50 y’all see the guy pull up like “is that Scotty Kilmer?!? Ima just gonna drive away to not distract him”
I saw that too lol
Ha! We almost did that too when on vacation at Galveston Island a couple of weeks ago, but didn't want to be accused of being a stalker. LOL!
Almost drove from Austin TX to visit the legend
He'll be back next month but no Scotty anywhere around.
Got a Volvo V50 for $1700 with 180k on it. It's a great car. Love the 5 cylinder engine. It's a little on the small side for a sporty man. But nice car for a woman or very thin person. I can see the XC70 being a great car for almost anyone. It'd be a tough choice between the 2 but I think I prefer the V50 with a comfy seat cover. It's too inexpensive to pass up.
My wife has a 2011 xc70 wagon T6 with 76k miles which we bought new. I recently had the Polestar upgrade installed which gave the car 25 more HP. The car is in great shape and has even beat a few Mustangs too....so it's fun to drive. Our plan is to keep as long as we can.
Hi, just wondering what the difference the Polestar makes over a standard T6. I may have an opportunity to acquire a 2015 with this upgrade.TIA.
@@stewartdickinson8242 Polestar means it''s tuned by Volvo with warranties intact. Not much of an increase of performance but probably noticeable and nice to know warranties aren't void. Late answer but someone might wanna know.
Today some Volvo’s are made in China. 😱
I worked at Volvo dealership and got to road test these V 70's and other models but the wagons always drive nice. I'd buy one used definitely. It's a shame that Toyota doesnt make a sport wagon.
you hit the nail on the head with that remark about the build quality that one can even hear it in the door shutting action. even my volvo c30 has that quality solid feel that not even toyota or honda can replicate but only luxury brands like lexus can only dream of rivaling.
People here in Western NC love these cars and we sell them fast!
Wow I'm in north carolina too but piedmont area 🙂
I’m in the southern part of NC they are every where
Your right I’m in eastern part of North Carolina Greenville nc. They are everywhere especially in the country part

South east right here
My first car is a 2011 V70 2,4D. Sturdy, pretty decent power, good gas milage, quiet, extremely comfortable (the seats are more comfortable than some sofas honestly) and the engine can last a very long time as long as you use common sense, take care of it and do the usual service it requires and is cheaper to fix than for example a BMW 5 series or an Audi A4 or A6.
I recently acquired a xc70, 2007, Cross Country.

Thanks for the video, Scotty! Ive got mine, same model, from my spouse last year after my Civic got totalled. 2014 XC70 T6, 78k miles, navy blue with tan interior. Im the second onwner, burns a bit of oil but runs fine, no problems so far. Youre on point, its such a safe automobile!
So how do you cope with oil burning?
This seems to be an intermittent problem. They hold 8qts of oil, so as long as you check the oil once in a while, you're fine. (also, i believe you can check the oil via the dash guage... can't recall how tho, sorry) Enjoy ✌
Scotty, the damping of the doors is literally tuned to sound like a solid door! Damping material vs resonance, remember bode and nyquistdiagrams....
Scotty I love the interior and the speed of that volvo
I'd be watching (in the long term) for leaking camshaft seals, rear mainseals if there's any similarity to the 850T5. Also, to-the-firewall-side mounted turbos will be very difficult to access as will most things in this engine bay. It looks like there was quite a leap forward from the 850 in quality. Good, proper and TIMELY maintenance will be an absolute must as it was with the 850 chassis. Some older BMW's are super reliable and simple compared to today's vehicles however this'd beat them hands down on safety issues. A very good, solid car but watch for front end complexity, weight & oil leaks...over time. Maintenance, maintenance, maintenance.
One I saw had five significant oil leaks
Hi Scotty, ive had this same car for 6 years and 100k miles, only thing ive ever had to done to it is regular service and a brake change :D Great car!

I don't think the sound effect was real. I just think he doesn't like New York, or more specifically, what it has become. I don't blame him.
Those Volvo 240s might have been the best European car at least that I've encountered. They were kind of boxy and really slow but they were solid.

My '85 240 wagon (traditional rear-wheel-drive) got 27-28mpg on the highway all day, everyday~

Dacia is a Romanian company, cooperatin with Renault. The 1.4l 75hp engine goes up to 700.000km without any major problems. Theyr cost of ownership (revision) is somewhere around 50$/ year. The fuel consumption is around 6.0l / 100km mixed. The engines are boolet proof and can be easily converted to work on LGP instead of gas.

Gustavo Fring too.
Hey Scotty, doubt you will see this but I’m still going to try.
So I own a 2009 cobalt. It’s high milage (205,000 miles), but has been extremely reliable. My problem is the gas lines have rusted out. I’m sure you know that the NHSTA has an ongoing investigation about the brake lines. I’m not interested in spending $1,000 on something that shouldn’t have rusted out. The car doesn’t have rust anywhere on it. I’m thinking of cutting out the rusted parts of the line and patching the line with high pressure fuel line and some high pressure hose clamps.
My question is, if I patch the lines and a recall is issued, will GM still be required to fix the lines on the car?
Thank you, Anthony S.
My 02 v70xc wagon is still going strong at only 170000 miles. Love these cars!
Who would have ever thought that a two owner swedish station wagon would have a connection to world pandemic hot spot here in America and be part of a funny Bernie Sanders meme in a 2020 CZcams video 😋, Scotty you are the best.
That's a great Volvo and the engines sound really good. Much more classic design than the new turbo-supercharged 4 cylinder V90 CC money pit edition.
Why is it a Money pit?
I have one exactly the same here in Sweden, 2.4 litre 5cylinder diesel, 300k miles now.
Replaced rear shocks and rear control arm bushings, only engine work except 2 timing belts and service that has been done, was around 200k miles, when i had to disassemble the starter for a clean and re-lube, it hasnt been making any noise since.
Only flaw ive found about the xc 70 model is a common problem they have, it can leak engine oil between the engine and transmition, it is kinda cistly to change but totally worth it. It does shift alot better if you use the sport mode with the geartronix to test the horse powers :D
The A/C blows ..... FREEZING COLD! Shifts .... Like a DREAM!! :-)
Actually the boxy Volvo's looked industrial tough.
My mom had bought a 740 brand new in 1989 and it only had 3 problems. She bought a lot of cars after that but the Volvo still was kicking until 2011. Great car.
Nice car, good video as always
I loved the 240 DL four-speed manual with overdrive. Great car except brake pads did not last long.
My favorite of the practical ones. My favorite sporty one is the P1800S.
The P1800 wagon is the only mass produced car that never depreciated right from the showroom floor. If you look at a 2008-16 XCwagon, you will see the design of the rear hatch has inset into it the shape of the glass rear hatch of the 1800's. Most people think they just look good, but it's actually an exact throwback ~
I'm glad to see that quality is now measured by slamming the door.
I have the same car. I have 170000 miles on my Xc70. It’s been an amazing car it’s been rock solid.
I started getting into new Ford Suvs and cars because of all the Volvo tech and platforms they use now
The warranty myth is astounding. Even with the warranty, the dealerships are trying everything they can to deny it. I was having problem with 2000 accord V6 engine when the car was brand new and they try everything to brush it off.
Wow scotty not hating on a Volvo. Love my 97 850. 23 years old and going strong.
