    Stevie kills me when he does his faux Brit accent. I met him once, and he did it right away. I love this series! Thanks!

    As a kid in north NJ, we heard rumors about this kid who played outside of the Apollo Theater. Some of the other kids were going to try going over to see him, but my parents wouldn't let me go. The theater was in Harlem. About three months after that, the riots erupted in Harlem, and we could see the flames and the lights from all kinds of emergency vehicles from across the Hudson river. We moved away about two weeks after that. I never heard if the other kids did manage to see him, but it wasn't long until we heard his first record on the radio. Little did we know what an inspiration he would become to others.

      I’m not even a religious person and that statement hit me real REAL good.
      Tell me Stevie Wonder says that god wants me to use the talents I’m said to have, and I’m gonna use that talent to its full capacity.
      Given, and received. Thank you, Stevie.

    Thanks for another good video. Too bad about some of the quality, I had to turn on the CC.
    I love Stevie's classic 70s albums but I was always bothered by how he gave up all his talent to God, like it was something he unwrapped at xmas when he was 7. He worked on his craft for years I'm sure, he should give himself more credit. Talent isn't given, its something you work on.

    • @2bitgirly007
      @2bitgirly007 Před 7 lety +21

      I'm of the opposite opinion - Talent is nurtured, not manufactured. While I agree with you that discipline is key to success, the fact remains that some people are intrinsically just more talented at singing, etc. You can attribute that to God or nature or chance, but it simply isn't realistic to pretend as if hard work is enough to be at Stevie Wonder-levels of excellence in your area of choice.

    • @amphitheatre
      @amphitheatre Před 7 lety +13

      2bitgirly007
      i think i could agree with you on that if it was just his voice (you can't change the timbre or sound of that, so in a sense it is "given") but his mastery of pretty much any non-stringed instrument must be due to years of practice. his ability to hear and place woodwinds and synthesizers in his compositions was an extension of his genius, but not one that came without hours and hours of training the ear.
      then there is the stereotype of the blind being more attuned to individual frequencies having an effect, but i'll not involve that here. at least we can both agree on his pedigree :)

    • @AceGrooves88
      @AceGrooves88 Před 7 lety +6

      I think people use talent as an excuse for why they haven't reached higher levels in their chosen disciplines. While predispositions certainly exist, no human has ever gotten around putting the years and years of dedication and hard work in. Stevie was lucky enough to grow up around Motown and the Funk Brothers, so he learned quickly. But talent (as in god or nature given) is not why he's so great. The man lives music

      @laylasilyano7941 Před 6 lety +4

      MorbidManMusic God gives people free will therefore some do good while others use it for evil. Also, God gives people talent and you can choose what you do with it. I absolutely understand Stevie's reasoning and believe it so myself.
