As a college student, had the fortune of meeting him in an airport - a friend saw him and dared to approach him - he found out we were on our way to a meeting where I had to give a speech - he gave me a full legal size page, both sides, of jokes to use. He told us his favorite shows were college campuses. We lost a great one when we lost him.

Legitimately the most underrated comedian of all time. He could do everything. Song, dance, physical, visual all wrapped up into one complete package. Also an extremely insightful and intelligent human being. He absolutely crushed all of his specials in the 80’s, which cemented him as a legend. King of prop comedy. RIP my friend. You were one-of-a-kind.

I think it's mainly because he was considered a "prop-comic", & they have never really gotten the respect they deserved. He didn't need to use the props, but because he ended his shows the way he did, he was just left off the list of G.O.A.T. comedians. Imo

RIP Leo Gallagher or simply Gallagher 😢🍉 Gallagher was one of my absolute favorite comedians when I was growing up, he was hilarious and one of a kind. His comedy covered so many topics, he had bits on society, politics, relationships, the sexes, race, pop culture, the english language, growing up, and growing old. I always considered him one of the smart comedians, he was clever, witty, and sharp as a tack. Some of my favorite bits of his involved social commentary, politics and the education system. He took you off guard because here was this zany looking wacky character who all of a sudden was saying some really interesting and intelligent things all the while with that sly little gleem in his eye. Of course he was most famous for his Sledge 'O' Matic routine at the end of his shows where he'd demonstrate the finest little handy dandy kitchen helper money could buy, and in the process cover his audience in just about every and anything you could find at your local grocery store. It got to the point where people in the first four rows would wear rain ponchos and garbage bags because they already knew what they were instore for. Gallagher was truly one of a kind and will be sorely missed 😔 Rest easy my friend, none of us will ever forget our favorite fun loving, fruit smashing funny man. Thanks for the laughs 🍉 🕯️❤️

And guess what, there weren't food shortages back then, in fact, there was an abundance! And if you want to be so angry about food waste, why don't you petition to stop all the grocery stores, restaurants, etc. from throwing out any and all unsold food, or food they deem "unsellable" because they have a few bruises, etc. You act as if you give a shit about food waste, but we all know you don't actually know or care about it, and won't do shit to try to stop it, other than bad-mouthing a DEAD comedian. Grow the fuck up.

This stuff is so funny and clever, and very insightful. It shows you how the mind works. When you hear little kids learning to speak and they make "mistakes" like saying "Gooder" - it shows that their brain is developing and understanding concepts like prefixes and suffixes and what they mean, but then we just confuse them and tell them, oh no, that's not how you're supposed to say it. It really makes you wonder if our language was more consistent and made sense if we would any better off, instead of bogging our minds down at their most formative years with wildly inconsistent rules about the language.

Gallagher is arguably the best comedian who specializes in physical humor. Steven Wright, Henny Youngman and Mitch Hedberg are/were awesome with one-liners. Robert Klein does a perfect show and a perfect set and it is hilarious start to finish. He's one of the all-time greats who is still living. Joan River was the funniest female comic ever, but Ellen DeGeneres cracks me up, too sometimes, and we could go back to Paula Poundstone and Phyllis Diller. But if you're going strictly on how hard they made me laugh, we're talking about the late greats: Norm MacDonald, Bill Hicks, George Carlin, Robin Williams, Sam Kinison, and the greatest ever, of course was Gilbert Gottfried. Gilbert was doing his usual filthy set one night and killing, like he always did, and one apparently prudish woman got up to leave, and Gilbert said to her, "Miss, Miss, was it something I said?" ROFL. Gilbert's roast of George Takei is beyond epic. All of our beloved comedians made our lives a little better and they all deserve a place in our hearts, including Gallagher. Nobody swung a funnier mallet.

Decades ago, I was fortunate enough to see Gallagher at the Sahara in Las Vegas. It was a late show, as is to be expected in Vegas, and the material was most certainly adult, but that didn't stop a couple in the front row from bringing their child (likely elementary school age). Gallagher came on stage, began his routine and looked down and saw the child. You could tell he was troubled and perplexed. Children were NOT supposed to be in the audience, at least to his way of thinking. He questioned the parents as to why they'd bring a child to an "adult" show and rather than wait for an answer began chastising them for doing so. He stopped, returned to his routine and a bit later returned to chastising the parents. It was obvious he was waiting for them to leave so he could begin his material in earnest. They didn't move a muscle. So he continued a bit more and didn't hold back. F-Bombs everywhere, initially to try and convince the parents to leave so he could go full Gallagher.
Still nothing from Mr. & Mrs. Moron. So he ignored them, continued his show and began speaking directly to the child and cursing. Not cursing at the child, but using words, like Smegma, words the child had never heard before and then he provided the child (and by extension the rest of the audience) a definition and example. Still the parents remained, as did the child. At one point he asked the child, "Do you know you have idiots for parents?" Yeah, they are fucking morons for bringing you to my show, so let's make sure it is a show you won't forget. Then as only Gallagher can do, he abandoned his set material and began verbally eviscerating mom and dad. The impromptu attacks were funnier than any of his material, which he'd interject between admonishing the parents and using more profane words the child didn't understand (ex: pink taco), words the parents would have to explain. He asked the child if he liked tacos and then before he could answer, said that PINK tacos are the best ever and he should ask his parents to take him out for one somewhere down the strip after the show. The audience howled and the parents sat like stone.
A bit later a man, who apparently took some exception to the modified material, said a couple of things I am sure he wished he hadn't. Gallagher's attention was then split between the heckler and the imbecils who brought their child to his show. Eventually the show came to a standstill as he began banter with the man who we learned was a taxi-driver of middle-eastern decent. Gallagher alternated between talking to the child, demeaning his parents at every opportunity, and the taxi-driver who become more embolden with each cocktail and attack on the parents. Finally Gallagher had had enough and began decimating the driver. His first comment was, "So you do get out of your taxis. So why don't you ever take a bath?"
Without doubt it was the funniest hour of my entire life, despite having seen more famous comedians, such as G. Carlin in the late 70's.

Gage There you are, I had absolutely no doubt that I would find you. I like to watch music videos and comedy videos because there is ALWAYS at least one person in the comment section that claims whatever band, member of that band or whatever comedian is the most underrated ever. It’s really quite fascinating that there are so many of you out there. I just watched a Bill Hicks video and someone said he was the most underrated comedian ever. Everybody can’t be the most underrated ever, so go figure.

Penroy Moonbeam Yes, but what is fascinating is how all of a sudden it’s become the thing to do, make the most underrated comment. Every once in a while I will see a most overrated comment, but mostly it’s the most underrated comment I see. It’s just a fad that will pass when everyone gets tired of jumping on board the bandwagon. The comment I have never seen is the he is the most perfectly rated person ever. Maybe someday.

@@afterburner2869 That's because everybody is different. There are different types of comedians so Bill Hicks and a few others can all be the most underrated in their particular field. Opinions, on the other hand, are overrated.

Growing up (pre-and-early internet) having only seen clips of "sledge-o-matic" I clicked this with a what the hell type attitude and 2 jokes in I was like "ok.. I'm in"
In the 90s I was presented Gallagher as somewhat of a hack and none of his stuff was aired in its entirety on TV. Wish I had seen them if they ever were. Carlin was (still is) the king of HBO when I was a kid.
