i think banksy started as just a solo artist. but there are alot of moving parts in his work. in videos he's released or approved of you can clearly see its a team working together. he's still prob the ringleader. but one person can not do things the caliber he does without a team.

According to the museum, they had no knowledge of the shredder being installed, consultants of Bansky told the auctioneers that the frame was not to be tampered with due to how it was constructed and matters concerning glue. They were told that the condition of the painting would be jeopardized if tampered with. Also the frame would not have been unusually heavy. Taking a look at how it was constructed, it had a lot of depth and ornate details, which would have disguised the fact that a shredder was made inside. It's not like any heavy duty equipment was used to destroy it either. Bansky posted a video of how it was made and all it used was about 15 razor blades at the base of the frame and probably a remote device to drag the painting downward

There's a belief among graff writers in Bristol, that Banksy as we know him today is a group of 4or 5 writers from back in the day, gathered under the name of one of them (who was apparently Robin Gunningham). There's a thread on Bombing Science that goes into detail.

The shredding of the painting had to be triggered remotely, and due to the perfect timing of it I suspect someone triggered it from within the room. But I don’t think Banksy colluded with any auction house employees. The shredder had to be battery operated and Banksy said his plan only came to fruition years after the frame was made. This would explain why the painting was only half shredded, because the batteries had slowly drained across the years. So Banksy most likely didn’t tamper with the painting, since the batteries would have been the first thing to be maintained.
There wasn’t anybody in on it, banksy said that they could only auction it if they didn’t inspect it
