- Today, I take a look at licenses LEGO took from other construction toy companies - like Megabloks, K'Nex, and Character Building. These range from the new LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog and Beatles sets, to the older LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean and Marvel Cinematic Universe sets.

So satisfied that you mentioned Angry Birds, I always wished that LEGO made Classic themed sets, but looking at the fact that the theme lasted so short, now I just wish that the Movie themed sets lasted longer...
Stole is a strong word. Most of these Lego acquired long after the companies making before made their last set.

I absolutely adore character building's doctor who sets. I only ever got the multi pack of the 11 doctors though and some blind bags, but all the figures and sets look so cool and fun.

The Mega Bloks POTC sets were incredible. I had so many of them and then all the working cannons and actual action-figure style characters made it so much fun to play with.

And no one knew these other sets existed, then Lego got the license and actually advertised that they were making these sets.
It didn't help that Character Building wasn't even really sold in the USA unless you went to specific retailers.
And Lego is holding a huge opportunity with the Doctor Who license, the 13 doctors would make a fantastic blind back CMF series.

I was on vacation a couple months ago and I was at a convenience store and they had the avengers build-a-figures for like 10 dollars. That goes to show how far Lego has gone to demolish the other companies they have competition with. I’m not saying Lego is bad but they are kind of genius by making their products so big that they make the other companies look like nothing.
that's currently changing. Lego has many competitors out there that produce higher quality products. Check out the latest Cobi sets, Mould King, Cada or Panlos.

There's plenty of chinese brands that produce products of equal quality, namely Mould King, Cada, ZheGao, Panlos, Forange etc. It's no rocket science to pour melted ABS into brick molds that are compatible with LEGO bricks.
K'NEX even had the licence for Super Mario sets at one point, so who knows what LEGO's gonna do next?

Quantum Surge There was a Lego tie in the game Lego City Undercover where they added Mario power ups like the fire flower or the mushroom. They even added Satoru Iwata. Sadly, there were no Lego Mario sets made.

In LCU there is an option to make your character wear a mario hat. It looks simple enough to be molded in real life. With nintendos push to more non-gaming areas such as mobile etc. I wouldnt be surprised if we got one.

9:16 Wrong. The Twelfth Doctor in fact did appear with two variants in the last blind bag series in 2014. And funnily enough both have the exact same costumes that both Lego Twelfth doctor minifigures have.

lets be honest: the lego verision of all the stolen licenses are the best they can get. they took the cheap plastic figs from other companies and made them into fanatastic, greatly neeeded figures!!!

Oh my god, I completely forgot that I used to have these. I remember being fascinated with Lisa's hair piece.
Personally really enjoy the Cobi line, though I so far only get the World War 2 tank sets. They are very big and quite cheap for their size, yet have a very good quality. Heck, they also have good customer service, having sent me replacement parts when I ended up with misprints (oh yeah, no stickers).

You cant say Lego stole ideas from Mega Blox. Mega Blox actually took Lego's ideas after they lost the patent and licensing for the original brick and minifigure designs
Well yeah they didn't steal obviously, the titles just being silly, all this video's saying is that they took some of the licensing for products, and this happens a lot so it's not a big deal.

I remember seeing the Erector Sonic sets at Gabriel Brothers as a kid. Wish I would’ve snagged one back then because apparently they go for a good bit of money on eBay now.

I had one of those gears of wars cars it was actually pretty cool but never would’ve thought of it being a Lego competitor
I had the Meccano sonic sets, i was so big on sonic back then, i broke my old sonic figures and was mad that they didn’t go into a normal stance
I heard character building and I thought "I know that from somewhere." Then just2good said the had a Doctor Who line and then I remembered the hours looking for custom Doctor Who minifigures on Ebay and mainly finding the Character Building ones.

lego didn't steal the licenses, they waited till their validity ran out and bought the construction toy rights from the respective company, (marvel, sega)
10:22 just realised that in their incompetence to make an accurate design, Mega Bloks accidentally created the Ps4 Spidey.

I played with the old megablocks pirates of the Caribbean as a kid. It was a fine line, from what i did with it, but i prefered their more generic pirate line due to the skeletons involved.
When i was kid i use to have a little bunch of Mega blocks Pirates of the Caribbean sets and they were really awesome back then

A Dumb Guy's Opinion Your right! I have all the Angry Birds Movie sets minus the castle, and they are all great, I adore the pirate ship, but the idea of stacking basic wood, stone, glass towers and placing pigs on them and then knocking down the whole tower with birds sounds a lot cooler! You could kinda do that with the Movie sets since some of them of had catapults, but man these sets were NOT made for launching birds at.
When i was a little kid I went to a store where they sold mega bloks marvel blind bags and 2 or 3 years later there were no more and I did wanted to complete the collection
