- First Impression - GoPro Hero 10 Creator SUCKS! During this video we removed and disposed a Burnham PV205 gas boiler that was beyond repair AND grossly oversized for the house. Maintaining existing near boiler piping, we installed the Weil McLain CGi4 gas boiler. GoPro lost as it quickly overheated and was easily defeated by Mikey Pipes!

Mikey pipes I worked as a helpers plumber in the past but the people I worked for wasn't as experienced as u I learned so much watching all yours CZcams shows thank u ur the best
Another quality install by Mikey Pipes and the Team! Great job as always, Mikey👍
Great advice start of the video. Sizing to system load can be far better than sizing to heatloss for efficiency. Keep up the videos Mikey 💪🏻
Good Video Mike --LOVE THE HUMOR --LOVE THE CONTENT
As I told Daniel several times the new boiler look like water softeners. I'm sure they work great. But I'm old enough they look like water softeners. I think it's more appropriate if Daniel says hi to his snakes if I understood you and Peter correctly LOL 😂😂 great job as always 129
Peter always says “hello” so nicely haha
That's the boiler that I wanted, minus the power vent. I like how the front panel comes off without screws and in one piece, and the controls are easy to access.
My days as a ship fitter and 38 years working on gas pipes when taking off a fitting I was taught to always Crack it in the last way it was being screwed which was tightening so go with quarter return and the tight position then go in the opposite direction counterclockwise it take off a fitting makes it much easier
good job mikey, winter weather coming.
I love clean van weeks!!! Makes such a difference!!
It’s crazy how you guys both manhandle the boiler perfectly without a care in the world. I’m always worried about hurting myself or someone else when it weighs that much.
I need to be more like old timers
Daniel if it was cast iron they wouldn't be lol. Gas boilers alot lighter.
@@DCHVAC gotta ditch them 7-Eleven tuna sandwiches and start on them Wheaties 💪🏻😤
Daniel and Peter are unbelievable, the best
When I had my CGA 3 installed a couple of years ago, it was really easy to filter out the contractors by eliminating the ones that didn't take the time to calculate and fully evaluate the heat load. They were recommending 150k btu boilers for a 1300 square foot house when all they did was walk into the basement.
Did he address the make up air issue?
They gave a worm clamp for the exhaust stack it’s riveted to the lower starter and is facing straight up and down unconnected 😂 I just noticed at the 36min mark I wouldn’t have seen it in it’s current orientation either but it’s there🤷🏻♂️ either way great installation as always
15:10 🤣🤣🤣🤣 “go sit down”
"Damn.. I think Hellen Keller could do better" 😂
Good looking job Mike. I’m a little surprised no iso flanges put on the circus. No zone valve replacements? With the corrosion on the zone valves
Mike, did either of those doors have vents in them for supply air?
Mike when using manual j for a boiler, do we use the rule 1btu per square inch of space per room? Or is that only for forced air heat and a/c?
haha that looked so frustrating just trying to get one thermostat off and one on to isolate them.
Good vid Mikey ... Go Vols !!!
Good job Mike and crew, I think technology embraces every one, not us embracing technology, I think it has it's way with most of us, some of us have no problem with it.
I must be a hack too then. Some people don't even know how to program a thermostat.
Both my house and detached garage manual j's came back with the heating btu's being the larger of the two. Is that common? I know usually cooling is the larger number and is used for manual d. Or am I mixed up?
Also, I thought any air scoop, micro air removal accessories should be at minimum 12” coming into the part.
Not me watching in terror when someone at 1546 was cutting flue pipe with an angle grinder braced on their leg lol the madman
Just wondering. Are the joints for the flue pipes going in the right direction.
What's the code for vent termination distance to door? Seems kinda close
when you pump in towards boiler supposedly it creates more air
No extra bracket needed on the horizontal pipe holding the 30 expansion tank? Just a question. I’m no plumber.
Hey Mike, ditch the squiggly leg tripod, buy a rigid one that looks the same and attach an extendable self y stick to it for a more versatile tripod for your your gopro,it goes from about 1 ft. To about 4 ft
Size does matter not too small or to big in everything when it comes a computer power supply like a heating system you need the correct size to do the task not a monster that never will run correctly and may even short life the equipement.
Does the exhaust pipe have a condensate drain?
Would you ever put in Weil Mclain evergreen or other high efficiency models?
My iPhone 14Pro Max just shipped directly from China Friday. Should have it Tuesday 👍👍
How big of a boiler should be for a 3400sq house. BTUs. How you calculate
Mike, I know you asked us for a new nickname for Peter a few videos back, but, I forgot which video it was. So, my suggestion to your question. MOUSE. Cause Peter is quit as a mouse. Plus its really hard to hear him on the videos, as he's so soft spoken. Hope it sticks, like SIPPYCUP did.. :) Enjoy the videos and all your teams hard work! Can't wait to see what you do in S.C. And, then, Florida!
May be a odd question but have y'all seen a 3inch to 6inch metal exhaust adapter for heater pipe or would that not flow right? Got a pellet heater and am hoping to use the existing chimney pipe, just wanting to know if yes they make them, no will have to be custom made or no wont work correctly
@@PipeDoctor was thinking that it wouldn't be a problem but wanted to double check, just having trouble finding the adapter. Thanks for the info
just search for ( 3" to 6" stove pipe adapter )
beware there's multiple of them for different flue pipe types, single/double/triple wall, insulated, etc. and there's different combinations for both ends.
@@throttlebottle5906 thanks, I searched awhile back and found nothing(think because they weren't as prevalent yet) but after the video I took another shot and found a couple. Almost pulled the trigger then read your comment and looked back at the cart and I had one with a locking end instead of a standard. Thanks again, saved me some hassle
Mike I’m from Massachusetts i love to watch your video I learning a lot with you we need Mike Pipes up here?
Mike, pumping away refers to pumping away from the expansion tank. The reason is because the expansion tank is the point of no pressure change and the pump creates a pressure differential. When you pump away, the pump pressure gets added to the expansion tank pressure (i.e. 12 psig + 5psig) whereas if you pump towards the expansion tank, the pump subtracts from the pressure of the expansion tank (i.e. 12 psig- 5 psig). Mainly causes issues in systems with high head pumps that can have cavitation issues.
Pumping away has another benefit, easier air evacuation. Pressurized water has smaller bubbles which are easier to evacuate. Older pumps could not handle the higher water temps so they were placed on the return, new pumps today have no issue with hydronic temps.
21:57 Unfortunately, I see that all the time on newer version of the GoPro cameras (V8 and higher) and that message pops up a lot! Personally think design flaw w/ cooling and SoC and NAND Chips, but, company says they fine and must be user error.
Sorry, forgot point, be careful as sometimes that “Too Hot” error message can cause shutdowns along w/ corrupted footage, which really sucks if something ya really need.
I always put 1 circulater for each zone ! Not a fan of zone valves ! Also a valve on each side * most importantly a bleeder valve to get air out of the system ! Put a onion in * Those flanges dont look nice ! And the gasket has a chance to leak overtime ! Peerless are good boilers
do many gv 90's. that would have been a nice upgrade.
My man the go pro has been killing me. To hot and battery life is crazy bad. New video abiut to post.
Any 2XL long sleeves still around?
Thanks
Lol I was going to type you should have went with inta360 cameras because Gopro are kinda crap right now with overheating and software bugs. I didn't but then I saw the camera over heat. Insta360 you can choose a single len or two for 360 mode. They are nice. You'd get some cool shots with it.
Getting back to the plumbing equation, is there copper pipes smaller than a half inch? What do I know, I just watch videos.
efficiency also plays a part.. more in furnaces than in boilers.. but I used to see this time and time again.. customer has 100k BTU 70% efifcient furnace from the early 80s and wants a new 95% and is adamant about getting a new 100k, wait we are going up 25% in efficiency and you have new windows since your house was built in 81, and you have more insulation now.. and you said the old unit makes it too hot then it cycles off and gets cold.. hmmm..we could easily go 80k.. but husband would be "gotta have horsepower! cant go smaller!".. happened all too often!
Seems like every Burnham I find, it's oversized. Nuts.
@@PipeDoctor idk what the hacks think for boilers, far much more than square footage calculation, I measure ducts and everything when sizing a furnace. The vintage antique installs I find are all over sized, those I understand because back in the day people put in what ever they could get their hands on. With todays technology, and how easy it is to Google formulas to calculate how to size a unit... No excuses for over or undersizing anymore.
Hi Mikey, sorry to bother, but I feel like Daniel might have not inserted the 45° exhaust pipe fully? At 19:00 the other Mike takes the measurement, pipe looks like it would have to be inserted up to the 'warning' print. So at 19:45 he's just cutting about an inch underneath the sticker and than Daniel fastens the pipe 21:10, which is only inserted about that additional inch, whereas it should go in until the 'warning'? Proof me wrong, but it might not seal properly, right? Maybe lickin before stickin would've helped 🙃
Going iPhone is equivalent to owning a time machine that only goes to the past. 😂🤣😂🤣
@@PipeDoctor iPhone people usually do as they believe the manufacturer of the phone. Sad thing is that it's not until they cross over or see the testing or information on the other new phones that it becomes obvious.
iPhone claims to be the first in almost everything but it usually after they tweak something that has been out for years on other platforms.
Like my phone and it has a 100x zoom feature. My guess is a couple years from now iPhone will release the same thing but it will have a feature added to it so they'll say it's the first of it's kind. Lol
It sucks that they do it but it is what it is.
Hey Mike, I work as an HVAC engineer and do heat loss calcs regularly. Sizing a boiler based on the fintube in the house is one of the best ways to do it. The boiler should never have more capacity than what's hooked up to it. Ideally it should match so that it doesn't cycle much.
@@PipeDoctor hey Mike allow my ignorance with boilers to ask you a question what's wrong with an oversized boiler it will just cycle less because the demand is less no?
I think Daniel was talking about a Williamson boiler
Suffering succotash😮😮😂😂
Oh no
Ha! like the kids know who Tom & Jerry is....
Cut-off wheel vs eye, who wins? Ever get a metal splinter in your eye, I did IT SUKS! $10 safety glasses with side shields - ues them!
Point of no pressure change..
👍
I think Williamson boilers are green
u should show some sort of gas leak check
You should punctuate English properly.
Anyone knows the name of the bush at 42:33 time stamp in Mikes backyard?
@@PipeDoctor Yes
Grab a GoPro 4, 5, 6, or 7 and should be ok far as heating issues; won’t have newest “tech” but imo, if it shoots and keeps the vids etc…that’s what matters😉
I’d also shoot in 1080 at 60fps or 1440 at 24-30 fps; as 4k at 60fps isn’t that great.
Also, the iPhone 14 pro and pro max suck Mikey, if want an iPhone 14, go for the 14+; but after fixing phones etc, I’d go w/ 13 pro max and if have that phone, keep it; as 14 not worth the price and update if using an iPhone 13 pro or pro max, 8mo of course and experience
Easy on my floor!
If you’re not watching The Pipe Doctor and DC HVAC you do not know what you are missing.
That boiler will probably last time natural gas is gone
@@PipeDoctor nat gas heating will probably wind down in the next 10-20 years due to price and environmental policy

Get the 14 pro max mikey
For business filming of course tax deduct baby

9/22/22 oops!
I would never use pump falanges as a union. That's just dumb. Because when you have to take it apart the gasket might break and now you have to get another one or go get a true union. Sorry Mikey. I like ya but I think that just looks like you didn't have a union and decided to be creative.
93 thumbs up
Totally fake video to bad mouth old style Burnham boiler. My Burnham boiler works fine after 40 years, and zero maintenance. It has only 2 low voltage wires go inside the boiler gas valve. This guy made up a bundle of electric wires everywhere. The new type boiler has a lot of circuit boards which are highly unreliable. One failed board, will cost you $1000 for labor and parts, and often have to wait months for the parts to come in. My plumber said even if I buy the same model from Burnham now, they don't last too long because of plastic parts everywhere.
That elbow outside looks like shit. Other than that great job.
Mike please teach your guys not to cut with an angle grinder on their legs I've seen it to many times and it's not very nice trust me
Never be good over sized boiler,
Lol nipplitus
He should have gotten a Alpine. Great install
Hey Mike my dughters friends husband follows you. He came over for dinner and wanted to see the boiler room. He freaked out and loved it. Lights and everything
