This reminds me of an issue my parents had. They hired a plumber to put in a new furnace for them. About two days later they called me, and were like, the house still smells like gas. I responded it's not right and they should call the plumber that put the furnace in. They don't like to be demanding to anyone, so I decided to stop by with some gas leak detector fluid I had (essentially noncorrosive dish soap, like using it instead even though I still wipe up the mess after testing for leaks), anyway, I didn't even have to use it. Before I even took the cover off the furnace, I could hear a hissing noise. Reached up and turned off the gas valve, noise went away. Turned it back on a minute later and the noise came back. Power was already cut off to it. I had the number to the plumber because he's the same guy I hire, and yeah, he showed up 10 minutes later to fix it. It was a defective elbow on the piping he ran inside of the furnace, opposite side gas entrance so had to do two 90's to get it into the gas valve. The real kicker is that the gas was propane too, my parents were real lucky it didn't blast the house sky high.

brave! with big pipe wrench and hammer on the steam vent/bushing. 😱
I have a one word device for that situation "TORCH". heat the larger diameter or outer most part, so it expands the most (what the vent is being removed from in this case) and not the part being removed itself. although just heating everything in general works by breaking the ancient rusted/mineral bonding.
if it's out in the open and easier to redo a section a few feet each way, then take that route. I have managed to get things apart others couldn't or for sure would have broken off(but its time consuming). I usually go for the cutting/replacing route first, even if that means manual pipe threader in a few places.(big pipe wrench and cheater bar)

Mikey shouldn’t that vent be further away from the elbow say about a foot away? The reason is that the vent is susceptible to being wrecked by steam hammer being too close to the corner where the water changes direction.
It wouldn’t hurt if it was up higher on a nipple if there’s any room above.

Here in MA many of them are inside. The gas company has started to move some of them. If you have a stone foundation and very old gas line they don't give you an option to move it, only to disconnect and move to another fuel within X number of years. They don't want to risk drilling some of the old foundations and they don't want to reuse the original pipe.

If you guys ever get into the heat-pump water heater "craze", it would be good to see how Mikey Pipes Rolls! My AO Smith came from Lowes, but it's got a brass drain-valve... plumber couldn't find the vent-kit, though, since it apparently is not an *actual* AO Smith... just some re-branded "stuff". that regulator was buzzing like a hitachi "massager"🤣 possibly over-pressurizing the meter and house, with the vent pipe to outdoors clogged with paint/bugs/mud wasps.
but that could be some horrendously un-muffled pumping station or something else upstream/downstream going nuts and causing noise.
as for the boiler gas manifold/header leaking, yikes, who welded that bracket on and blew a hole through the piping? (automated robotic junk or kids?)

I think you are a great tech and a wealth of knowledge, but please don't talk down to those you are teaching. I had someone do that to me when learning a trade and it really had a negative affect on one trying to learn the trade. In fact I left the trade because it had that much of a negative affect on me. Talking down to someone causes anxiety to where one is afraid to even try because of fear of making a mistake and getting put down for it. Instead you should just point out and say, "Hey, here is a better way to do this. Let me show you how.". Everyone learns at a different rate and being a positive and encouraging teacher will make learning the trade that much better.

How many times do you need to use the word orientation. You must belong to the learn a new word every day club. And I agree with L&L services, give the guy some slack he's new. We can see the Pipe Dr's real personality, has no patience. What can we expect from someone that tell's a customer that a thermocouple has fluid inside it. This guy's like watching The Three Stooges but with only one person. Thank's for the entertainment.

Thankfully NG rises, so the open doors help it disperse. Propane (all we have in my area) sinks, and quickly reaches high concentration near floor level.
