I totally get that argument and 100 percent feel that way as well. And that's why I buy my underwear in a sealed pack😂
Gamestop always sends me used games when I purchase new ones online🤬 happened twice.. horrible company
Ordered 5 games last week, they came the over the last two days. 1 of 5 were new, the other 4 are used 3 bagged, 1 sticker sealed.
They are new. They open to put empty case on show. They are from a physical store.
@@gameoverwehaveeverypixelco1258 they are not new. You thumbs up your own comment cause you know you made a ridiculous statement that doesnt justify anything this crap company does.
Imagine for a moment-all GameStop stores change over to old school toys r us style.
The walls are filled with flip cards and the games exist on a massive wall behind the check out. You grab a slip from the cards and bring it to the front where they unlock the caged wall and pick your game off the shelf.
Now you get the amazing toys r us experience AND new games that weren’t fricken opened. It’s what you call a win win situation.
I used to work at that store, in the R Zone. We had a lot of games in plastic cases on the floor as well. Great times there!
10/15 years ago GameStop used to be awesome the last 5 years it's turned to s***. I miss the PS1/2/3 days of GameStop/EB games. Games were fun and enjoyable and Xbox OG and 360 were in their prime as well. Hell all the consoles out then were awesome.
In theory, that was supposed to happen when they bought thinkgeek, but somehow they messed up.
But that would make sense! XD Gamestop's execs have none!
They even fell for the NFT meme long after it died!
Are you being sarcastic or serious? All the Gamestops I've ever been to have a dummy copy of all the new games on display and the actual copies behind the register.
They’ve been pulling this BS Since PS2 days
I remember
Yeah this isn't anything new. Nothings going to change as they will be out of business in a few years anyway.
@@EDFCentralthey would have been gone already if it weren't from that crazy crap with their stock a couple years ago.
@@EDFCentral I hope not they go EB Games goes in Australia and theres only one shop in the crappy butt end of nowhere town we are living in
I don't understand how it is even legal to sell games as brand new when they are opened, in no other market place would this be remotely acceptable
only gamestop
I have always wonder if people could take them to court over this.
When I managed Babbage's stores in the 90's, we had brand new games where we had to "gut" one of each, then would shrink wrap the display to be put on the wall. This was the only way we could keep people from stealing $50-$90 games at the time. And sometimes they still stole the empty cases. So those were never technically used by anyone. If it was the last copy the person would end up with a reshrinkwrapped game. In addition, we also had a very liberal return policy on games. Up to 10 days for a full refund. Then we'd shrinkwrap tbnose as new. I never liked that policy. Though, if GameStop is taking those games in as USED and then selling ad NEW, that is something entirely different!
The gaming industry seems to get away with plenty of anti consumer practices that wouldn't fly anywhere else. It's absurd.
@@matthenzel8930 Most legit stores will sell the display at a discount .
If its open, it’s not new. So insane that gamestop doesn’t agree with that. I am sure they wouldn’t agree if you sell THEM an open game and insist its new…
I worked in retail, they open case to put empty case on show. If you want brand new and sealed but from online only retailer.
We used to get idiots in all the time saying they want brand new, we have to explain they are new , we just have to open to display game on shelf. Some people don't get it. D
yep ebgames in new zealand does the same thing and then they take disc out and put it a sleeve behind the counter then when you get the disc they have scratches or fingerprints or are dusty how is this new
@@gameoverwehaveeverypixelco1258If it's been opened, it's no longer new. They could have photocopied the case and put that on the shelf instead.
That’s bull$hit. Here in Australia, EVERY NEW first party Switch game comes unwrapped. My pre order TOTK FROM Nintendo themselves was shipped as is, as in NOT sealed.
It happens. Not every new game will be wrapped up. Even my brand new copy of Mario vs Donkey Kong was shipped on release day by Amazon unsealed.
@@gameoverwehaveeverypixelco1258 If it's been opened and used as a display , it's not new anymore . It's been handled by goodness knows how many people . I also worked in retail at Sears and they would always sell the displays at a discount . Just because it's never been purchased and played does not mean it's never been used .
Why don't they get corporate to print fake display copies for the shelves rather than burn customer goodwill selling opened games as new.
Because that makes too much sense. Plus it would cost them too much compared to what they are doing now because they think the average Karen Soccer Mom can't tell the difference between new and their version of "new."
I worked for Gamestop for 10 years. They have done this since the beginning (when it was Babbage's and I worked there...) I absolutely HATED that they would make us "gut" these games and sell them as "new".
I call shenanigans on Babbages being like GameStop. I bought 256K pc games and NES games there and they were all sealed and literally brand new.
@@changkwangoh I don't know what to tell you but when I worked at Babbages they did the same thing with PC games. They would open them and put the empty box out.
I managed three Babbage's stores in the 90's. We did in fact reseal games, but it was at the manager's discretion. There were two types of reseals. 1. Were for games where we gutted the case to use as a display. This was because we had many people trying to steal them, so we would carefully remove the disc and store it in an envelope in the backroom. Then we shrink wrapped the display case to be added to the wall display (along with an "EMPTY: Ask associate to purchase"). And of course people still stole them! Then we had the more controversial type of reseal.. The returned game. This was because our Babbage's stores had a very liberal return policy. "Any game was returnable within 10 days". And we had a LOT of returns. We would keep track of repeat offenders the best we could, and would tell them they couldn't return games anymore. Writing on their receipts, NO RETURNS. So we would spend hours every day, shrink wrapping returns. If the discs or cases had any scratches or wear we wouldn't do that. I didn't like this policy. I always wanted my games to be brand new and factory sealed. PC games with code activation we wouldn't take back. I haven't worked there in nearly 25 years, so I have no idea what their return policy or shrink wrapping is like these days.
Yeah, I knew some guy and chick that used to work for EB games. They said they would take them out of the package 📦 and lock 🔐🔒 them up in
Security draws and put the empty 🫙 containers on the shelves as filler...They said this was done for Anti Theft/Anti Shrink purposes....
Babbage...never heard of...wow
I stopped patronizing GameStop completely when I decided to buy a Series X. I was told that I needed to become a subscribing member ($100 a year or something like that) and that it'd cost me an additional $650. This is in 2023 when there was no real shortage anymore. I left and went right next door to Walmart and bought it without issue for $449.
FuncoLand will always have a place of nostalgia in my memories, but GameStop ain't it.
Never had that issue if you don't like gamestop just say it no need to make up stories fams
Former GS employee 15 years ago here - those 'new games' are the boxes seen on the shelves, put into sleeves behind the counter, and whenever it is the LAST copy they reinsert the game into the box similar to used titles except they close it with that tape circle. That way it falls under new return policy if you open their seal. If there are other copies they will always give you the factory seal first. If you buy in store, they are supposed to disclose to you that it has no previous owners but for display purposes the box was opened so it could be placed on shelf. If there's no disclaimer about this being a possibility on the website or that your online order contains such games there should be. It's not unreasonable to believe that in this scenario all four of those titles were the last 'new' copies the store had. Also, if a game has codes they are supposed to be placed in the sleeve along with the game. This could easily be solved with dedicated display boxes that aren't one of the games opened and used instead.
Don't know how GameStop is still in business. Just watching youtubers unboxing purchases and the terrible condition they are in.
Well if you think about it, if all these CZcamsrs keep making videos like this one Game Stop is making money from games sold to said CZcamsr.
The failed attempt to short sell then Boosted their stock value allowing them to cash out Stocks for a huge chunk of cash they wasted a lot of it hiring people who just pushed them into crypto stuff
@kumarp3074 everyone who tries crypto stuff completely fail. People who buy in to that crap can come to me after I've got bits of string I'd like to sell at a deal....just $50 per bit😂
That's how they make their money.
@@leefischer5814not if they lose 10-20% of people who shop there who watch said CZcams videos lol.
I have the same complaint. A new game should be sealed!! I always return them now when they pull that crap and even the store clerks will argue. Last time the clerk said to me “technically it is new” and I said “No, technically the case is used so the full game (cartridge plus case) isn’t new.”
GameStop has been doing this crap for years passing off opened games as "new" and it's inherently super dishonest & it absolutely does matter to many people. If you buy a game advertised as new it should be factory-sealed, period. To your point, once the item has been opened you have no what its history is and GameStop slapping their own circular sticker over the seam in the case & re-sealing it does not make it a new game. I am well familiar with their practices & it's total bullshit. As far as ordering online goes, they will often fulfill orders by shipping from a random store instead of the warehouse in Grapevine, TX and when that happens you are almost assured of getting gutted copies of games that have been opened. GameStop is a despicable company with scummy practices & I'll be glad when they go out of business.
A gamestop manager once told me, that if you buy a new game and it's the last copy, that's why it's opened. It's the display copy that employees are allowed to "borrow" to try out. I also never buy the last copies from them.
Twice I was in the store and was going to pay for something new and they pulled the empty box off the shelf and put the game in and charged me for new. I refused the sale both times and went to Walmart.
You prob saved 10$ off retail doing that. Screw the gs points, spend a grand get $10. I’m serious!
How do you expect them to display game on shelf. This is how every retailer ever displays games.
@@gameoverwehaveeverypixelco1258Bullshit. Worked retail my teenage years through college. It's called a "known loss". Corporate can also ship display only product like most do and also have a display product in an protective case. Literally how best buy, Walmart, target e.t.c display games. If anything is opened for display, it's sold as open box. Then a consumer can decided if they want to buy it. Absolutely no one is gonna walk into a store of boxed sealed brand new items and say no, I want the one on display in front of the store. If it's out of manufacturers packaging, it should NOT be sold as new. Period.
This was common in the 90's, when I managed a few Babbage's stores. You just couldn't just put $50-$90 games on 8 walls and expect a single employee to monitor every customer WHILE actively working the register. And yes, there were many times we only had a single employee in the store. Even with a couple employees this would be impossible to monitor multiple people in a larger store with multiple walls full of product. It was just something that we had to do. Years later we started getting cardboard displays for most PSX, and some N64 games, but there was nothing for many others.
Happened to me too with dead cells
They get away with it because of those people who say who cares it's still the game
It always amazed me that Gamestop never seemed to have any conception of the condition of what they were selling being important or placed any significance on the things they sold having manuals (back when games actually included manuals). I don't know how many times I walked away from a Gamestop purchase because they didn't have the manual or tried to pull that crap with selling gutted games as "new". Once you get a game out of the original shrink wrap it is no longer new. As you mentioned, I certainly can't put their open game up on Ebay and sell it as new. It is now used and worth less than a new copy. I quit doing business with them a long time ago and I see that nothing has improved.
I’ve stopped buying for GameStop for years because of this. Absolutely awful.
Last time I went to GameStop it was to pick up a brand new game that I had asked them to hold for me. When I arrived it was unsealed. I told them it was for a gift, and the employee replied "just wrap it in Saran Wrap and they'll never know". This was the GameStop in Beverly, Massachusetts. Regrettably I still purchased it (I was stunned and confused - everything happened so fast). It pissed me off so much I have never returned (been probably over 5 years) and traded the game for something else (via GameTZ) because I never wanted to be reminded of them again.
The "new" copies usually have the codes and manuals, but it is always a gamble because the copy has been open on a shelf.
I still can't understand how they continue to operate this way when it's been one of the biggest complaints on them for the last 10-20 years.
I won't buy from them for this reason. For a company that's hurting this seems like an easy thing to address.
Maybe it’s just people like you who keep moaning about this stuff they don’t care most people don’t care as long as you get the games it’s all that matters
@@aaronvasseur6559 if I can get a sealed game from the target down the street instead of the "new" game thats been opened and put in a GameStop labeled case I'm going to Target. If you think that's moaning, you do you.
@@dannyconnell8827 not only is it sealed but most of the time the game is cheaper at another store. At least from what I remember but it's been about 12 years since I been in one.
The only reason for a game collector to shop at GameStop is that occasionally you can find treasures people have traded in at a good price. I got a copy of Octopath Traveler for $27 back in ‘22. It was used but in great condition. Also found a complete Bloody Roar for the GC for $35 a few months ago, which kinda blew my mind. But I’d never buy new games from them unless they were on an insane sale and I didn’t mind them being previously molested by staff and shoppers. Definitely would not use their online because it’s such a crapshoot- with really low chances of a happy outcome.
They were still selling gamecube games? None of my gamestops sell retro stuff so I don't bother since I don't even like modern games anyway outside of modern titles like Triangle Strategy or Unicorn Overlord. Bloody Roar is a damn great game, my fave was BR 2 on PS2.
why is anyone still shopping at GAMESTOP????
I've always hated how they opened games so the employees could take them home, and then turn around and sell them as new. Then their trade in values just got worse and worse. I stopped dealing with them a long time ago.
Stop giving this abomination of a company any of your money! They will keep doing this shady ish until forced to stop.
I got burned today with “new games” being sold out of cello and smothered in layers of stickers and residue.
I just got nam flashbacks from the old stickers they used to use on the cases. Were a right pain to remove.
This is exactly why Gamestop is my last resort when it comes to buying games. Been burned so many times and yes if I can't break the factory seal it's not new.
You’re not alone man. Happened more than once to me and I had the same issues with the store reps. I stopped buying from them about 2 years ago now. Now with Best Buy acting wonky I took my business to Amazon.
Amazon is the best then eBay.
Gamestop is my last choice.
When game stop fails there will only be EBAY
Last time I ordered Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, I was supposed to get a wooden plaque. Guess who didn’t get their plaque…. Guess who didn’t care…. GameStop…
So an employee explained to me that a game is considered “new” because it has the return policy of a new game, even if it is a floor model that they taped together.
In general just avoid buying “new” from GameStop if they are older games because this happens a lot.
Game stop got me over the holidays. Ordered Mario RPG and Star Ocean 2nd Story. They only sent me RPG. I could tell the envelope was too small to fit two games and it definitely wasn't tampered with. Been on the phone with them multiple times and they are saying its on the postal service, it definitely wasn't the postal service. That envelope was too small to safely ship two games, crisp and sealed. I will be doing my first chargeback ever. Saw tons of others with issues when I looked.
Gamestop is going the way of Blockbuster.
So they will still have 1 location in which a store is open?😂
No it isn't. But this practice better be. Also blockbuster is still open in Oregon.
gamestop should have closed down years ago
@@MrJ0mmy So that there are even less places to buy physical games? Yeah cool. 🙄
I NEVER order online GameStop.. it must be in person.
They SUCK ONLINE orders
They did that years ago when I bought a “new” game, they took a disc out of the drawer, put one of those circle stickers on the side, and gave it to me with the case I took off the shelf since it had the “new” price sticker on it, they told me that’s how they sell new games, when I bought Lego city for switch new they did the same but didn’t even bother with the little sticker. there’s been times more recently where they actually gave me sealed games from their drawer when I picked the case with the “new” sticker off the shelf, so they are just inconsistent if they are still doing that when you buy stuff on their site
This one factor alone is probably the single largest contributor to their death spiral. The fact that they haven't cratered yet is simply amazing.
This is unfortunate and extremely unacceptable.
SAME! Never again. I paid premium price for "new" and they ALWAYS send it opened. Your batch there would have been close to $12-40 less if you bought "used". They are 100% the worst, and the first to go once everything turns digital.
I used to work for GameStop.
GameStop doesnt have metal detectors in their stores for theft, so they ALWAYS gut 1 new copy of the game for display purposes. (So if people steal the box, the game wont be lost.)
If its the last one, then the customer is stuck with that copy.
Never order new games online from them if you want the official seal.
100 percent agree with you man. I've had hours long conversations with GameStop customer service about receiving multiple used games sold as new. It is insane. The last guy would not admit that an opened game is used. He told me over and over no sir, they are still new because they were only played at the store as demo copies. Absolute scam. This should straight up be illegal. When you get a used game that is unsealed you also have no idea if it is missing any inserts or extras. I am furious about this, happened to me several times.
I remember Gamestop was planning on getting rid of the cases regardless if it was new or used and were going to put the games in those cheap sleeves they have. The backlash here locally at my Gamestop made them switch that up real quick. So it's not surprising the new copies are open because that's exactly what was going on a few years back. Also, sometimes the codes for the game were already redeemed when it was a brand new sealed copy because Gamestop found out that many of their employees were opening and redeeming the codes and then were resealing them to make it look brand new again.
One thing I hate is when they just toss the disc in the case without putting the disc in the damn holder & when you get it you can hear it rattling around in the case like WTF!!!
I got into an argument with a GameStop employee once about this. I asked if they had a new copy, he said yes. I said cool, I’ll take it. He proceeded to take it out of the demo system and put it into a box. Then he couldn’t understand why I was upset that it about it not being new. He said since it had not been sold it was new. I tried to explain that I just saw it being used, there for it is obviously used and not new.
I remember one time that I had received Arkham Asylum as a gift. It wast unopened and literally still in the plastic. I went to trade it in at Gaystop and they wouldn’t except it…👊👊👊
Same thing happened with me for a copy of Resident Evil Village. They said they would accept it only if I opened it outside of the store then came back in and traded it in
Just went through this same crap with them today as well. Bought 4 new switch games during that crazy sale. Got 2 packages today. One package had one game...it was new but opened and the other package was supposed to have the other 3 games....fortunately one of the games was brand new sealed. Unfortunately one of the games was straight up just missing and the other one was just the game cartridge in one of those stupid sleeves they used with a sticker on it saying new...never again.
I feel this totally! I went to the store and got a game that was a New copy and they pulled the case off the shelf and put the game in it. I said ummm that's not new and they said yeah it is we just took the game out to display the game.... That's no longer new it's used.
100% I disagree with this practice and have been calling them about it. Whether they care or not is another story. Absolutely not new once opened.
I remember the first time I received a “new” game like this, I felt like I got ripped off. GameStop as a company if they need a display case game on the shelf, print one out and keep the new games sealed. It’s a shame as like you mentioned in your video, it’s one of the last stores you can actually find hard copy of games.
I agree with you, the new games should be sealed. But I learned a long time ago, GameStop sells “new” open games all the time. And expects you to just be ok with it. If you want sealed copies, look elsewhere besides GameStop… 🤷♂️
Gamestop is consistent. Consistently terrible when it comes to selling you used games as "new." The first time I saw this happen was in 1994 (30 years ago!) when my brother got NBA Jam Tournament Edition for the SNES at Gamestop and it was already opened.
Remember back in the late 2000’s they used to put stickers on the front cover art as well as the spine, didn’t matter if it was used or new.
I stopped buying from Gamestop a long time ago for exactly this reason. I'm talking years and years ago. How Gamestop didn't realize how much this practice would hurt their business I'll never know.
This is exactly why I don't shop at Gamestop anymore . It's absolutely unacceptable .
My buddy works there part time only to see how the ship sinks.
I also got a used game instead of a new. Conclusion I never ordered again at GameStop
I agree with you - they've had the audacity to this in the store right in front of me when i handed them a case that said NEW on it....a couple of times the employee opened a drawer and pulled out a disc in a sleeve, put the disc in the case that had the NEW sticker on it, and proceeded to charge me the price for a new game...
This is the exact reason why I stopped purchasing games at gamestop. If i buy a new game i expect it to be wrapped and new. Also if you're a collector they slap huge stickers and labels on the cases that leave adhesive when you carefully peel it off. Deal breaker for me.
Relatively new subscriber and love your honesty in your videos. Loving your content. Great job man! 🤜🤛 Respect
Every time they do this sh*t to me, i return it. Im not paying new prices for an open game. If you opened a sealed game right in front of the cashier and tried to trade it in for new price, they wouldnt do it. So, why do this? Trash company.
I hate gamestop for that exact reason. They say they are display copies... nothing sold as NEW should ever be removed from its original plastic wrap. Once that seal is gone its NOT new.
I'm 33 & I've NEVER liked GameStop or EB Games because they've always opened their "new" games & they would place stickers on the cover inserts.
It's rare nowadays to get an actual sealed new game from GameStop. They routinely open sealed games and sell them as new. They have been doing this awhile now. It's dumb and I don't know how they get away with it.
It’s a stupid policy they have that if it looks new, it is “new”. So dumb!
This is why PROPER consumer protection needs to be a thing, the government should hold companies that do this accountable for FRAUD
I hate gutted “new” games. How this isn’t illegal I don’t know.
Last year I ordered a copy of a $100 game from GS, and it arrived sealed. Then a few days later another copy arrived, also sealed. They only charged me once. The packing slips and everything were identical. Same order number and everything.
I agree with you completely. This is why I haven't gone into a Gamestop in years. The last time was some guy behind the counter trying to explain to me that the opened box with a sticker on the front is a new game. I mean seriously, isn't there a law they are breaking by making these claims?
The store I work for is extremely strict. Yes we do guy games but they are for display purposes only, once all of our copies have been sold, then we sell the display.
We do have to verbally let the customer know that the game has never been played or used but it is not sealed since it is our display and last one in stock. It’s up to the customer if they want to continue to purchase it or not.
Most likely your games were the last ones and shipped from a store, a lot of the times if it was a sale or a deal then the games tend to get bought out, it’s kinda hard to find a new switch game under $30
I’m surprised that no one has sued GameStop for selling opened games as new.
This is the equivalent of going to a car dealership, buying a new car, paying full price and a down payment on the car only to start the vehicle and noticing it smells of cigarettes and that the odometer has a few thousand miles on it. You bought it NEW, clearly used and got scammed.
I record opening and checking my games ever since I ordered 6 games and none of the disks were inside the cases.
I had that happen to me at Gamestop in store . I asked a friend to pick up a couple of games for me at the mall before Christmas and the employee forgot to put the discs inside , so I had to drive down and get the discs and they laughed and acted like it happened all the time . I won't set foot in there ever again .
Can’t believe this video just showed up on my feed. I literally just had the same experience where I bought a brand new copy of Trails into Reverie for PS5. I open it up yesterday and there is no cellophane and the disk fell out as soon as I opened the case!
This has happened to me more than actually getting a sealed game. I have taken them all back. The employees at the GameStop think I am the problem and I have to school them on exactly what you just said about what is really new or not. Especially when gifting which I do a lot of. At this point I have vowed to never buy from GameStop ever again. They are pure crooks.
This sucks. I hate seeing the decline of GameStop. The last hope for physical games
I bought a quest 3 online when it first came out. It was defective and I decided to send it back. For months, they refused to issue me a refund, since they claimed they never received it. Every time I would call them, I was routed to a call center somewhere in Latin American, it seemed. Everyone had a heavy accent, which was hard for me to understand. They would literally hang up on me when I asked them questions they couldn’t answer. This went on for months. I finally managed to call the corporate office and spoke to an American who actually was able to assist me almost immediately. GameStop is the worst place to buy anything. I hate them with a passion. I hope they go out of business and never return.
I always hated GameStop for doing this and when I used to go to their stores I would make them give me a new sealed copy when they tried to give me the "open new" copy. If it's open it's no longer new
I ordered 3 dragon quest monster new. It came and 2 were sealed and of course the 3rd is a preowned labeled as new and put in a clear plastic bag as a seal. I emailed them about just giving me the difference between a preowned about 8$. They mess me back and say go to a GameStop for exchange. I told them I’m disabled and can’t get a ride that’s why I use online. Takes 3 days for each response. Then I missed the cut off time. Next time I’m just gonna return through mail since it cost them more. This was not the first time. I seriously sold the used dqm for 80$ plus shipping so it made up for it somehow. The first time I went to GameStop was to bring my lil bro to buy him a game, as we walk out I’m looking at what we just bought and it was opened, I read the receipt and it said new so we do a quick 180 and I tell the clerk I want a sealed one, he said since I walked out the door he can only buy it back or trade for a preowned price. I told him because we walked out the door the game dropped 40%? That day I left the store in handcuffs. This was in 07-08? Now I only shop at gs if I can make money.
@calibomber209 - Did you get beat up in jail, and that's what caused your disability?
GameStop never shipped a game in Dec. I informed them and they opened an “investigation”. And kept stringing me along for 2 months ! Saying they were really backed up (geeee I wonder why). After 2 months I disputed the charge with my credit card and got my money back. They are super shady !
I love how buying "new" on Gamestop is a crapshoot on actually getting the game sealed and buying pre-owned is a crapshoot of getting the game with a case. Just the biggest gamble possible when it comes to buying games, might as well stick to ebay at this point.
It's even worse with the Mig Switch and possible banning from Nintendo. I prefer new games, used games are fine too. Depends on if you want the new game experience.
Respectfully, Ron. They put the empty cases out on the store shelves, and keep the games behind the counter. They have been doing this since the PS2 days. So even when you buy a used game, unless you ask them to go in the back and get a sealed copy, this is what you get.
I gave up on Gamestop years ago after ordering a "new" game, then when it came in, it had their generic black case they use for the used games, then on the paper, someone wrote the word "new" on it. Around the same time, I bought a preowned XBox 360 from a store and after getting it home, it had a giant Refurbished sticker on the side. I had to explain to them what the difference is and the morons were still baffled.
The funniest almost all opposite happened to me. I bought 16 pre owned games. 2 showed up in the generic black gamestop case with "new" sticker on them and get this, the rest were brand new sealed with "pre owned" sticker on it. 😂.
Damn that hurts!!! Im also one who likes things sealed...and yeah the seal makes a big difference when giving them as gifts or opening them yourself..sucks!!
I knew someone trying to get help with a phone he bought, the phone company did not know that store even carried their product and assumed he was lying, ugh.
I've also seen games labeled 'used' going for HIGHER than new games. Gamestop is the most disorganized mess I've ever seen for such a big company.
Not to mention it's illegal to charge a certain price for something that's new.
They're so awful. The last two "new games" I ordered were in paper sleeves. I had to beg them to send me cases. They couldn't even send me the ones that came with the games because they didn't have them in stock. How did they not have the cases if these games were new~!? They're literally the last resort for me now. I will only order if I'm willing to accept used copies, because they definitely, 100% sell you used games as new.
I absolutely lothe their "new' policy cause they use showroom copies as new.
Had an employee agree with me that it's BS as they put on the sticker and sarcastically said "there we go, now its new" and charged me like $60 for an opened game
I can't believe that gamestop is still in business. They started going downhill when I was a teenager.
That circle sticker is the absolute worst, it leaves such a harsh sticky residue that it practically ruins the case. I will never order from them even at half the cost of other stores.
Every time I’ve wanted to buy a game in store and they pull that drawer open to get out an open “new” copy I refuse to buy it. I drove around to four different stores to try and find a sealed copy of a Switch game they had on sale a few years ago. They never get many copies of new games anymore either. Their shipping charges are BS too. I had a $50 gift card from Christmas I couldn’t find anything to spend on until last week. Every damn game I wanted to buy, they only had their open new copy. Finally found some digital games to buy on Steam and Switch. Another rant, back when Wolfenstein 2 released on Switch, they had a GameStop exclusive alternate game case cover I liked. So I went there for the game and they acted like they had no idea about the cover. I pressed the issue a bit and they found a whole box of them. But the dude acted like they were for store use, but he’d give me one anyways. Like the whole damn box of them was going to be for displays or something 🙄
Sorry man. Former employee here.
Sadly, this is standard practice. Been that way for over a decade. They take one, open it, put the box on the floor. If it’s the last one, that’s the copy you’re getting. I don’t agree with it, but if they don’t, theres nothing but generic boxes on the floor.
There are marketing boxes/cover art they get from marketing, but that’s a pain in the A. It’s way more efficient to use the game case. It sux.
Yes, there is a chance that game was played too, although that benefit may have changed. I know they’re not supposed to check out new games or the last copy of a game.
Should be a false advertising lawsuit
I work for GameStop warehouse in York pa and we just shut done completely
I will never use gamestop again. The last time I was in their store was blackfriday. Trade-in xbox 1 x scorpio. Buy complete ps5 setup 10 games. That's over $1000 of merchandise. The trade-in needed an update. I said as owner I take full responsibility for damages I'll come back when it's done. This was a no-go. Here I am standing in line with a stack of games and accessories. And a console, vr, two $200 controllers, recharge stands for everything, headset, Playstation +, hard drive, and whatever else I thought I might need to make a complete setup is behind the counter. And their telling me $100 trade-in is standing in the way of making $. So I canceled my pro account of 17 years and never went back
I recently ordered a “new” game from GameStop. Same thing happened to me with the sticker BS. It’s one of the reason I don’t order from them much anymore. The only reason I did this time was because they were the only retailer that had it in stock.
I ordered from them twice during the holidays and both times they arrived badly. The shipping packages always look like they are coming from Ebay or something. My first delivery had two damaged items in it and the second had a "NEW" (opened) game and another with fake packaging. Never again.
I would demand a post-sale discount because they've been opened
It’s been a few years since I’ve bought anything from Gamestop, don’t see any reason why I should purchase anything from them going forward lol
My experience with Gamestop online orders has been if the game is still relatively new then I can expect to receive a new still OEM sealed game. If the game has been out for a while and I'm buying the new condition game at a clearance price then I can expect to get said game unsealed and repackaged by Gamestop. It's rather annoying. Especially when you can tell the game is in used condition. Unless I'm willing to take the gamble I'll usually pick in store pickup if avaiable or just go to ebay.
Yeah I only ever buy from GS if I go there in person and can verify each game. Even then "new" doesn't mean NEW!
