I don't know why, but my female Eclectus parrot, was using her nest box for a long time, and has lost a lot of feathers, on her chest, don't know why ?? or when they will grow back ??? .
Are you trying to breed your eclectus? If not, adding a nest box can be stressful because it encourages hormonal behavior, like egg laying. She can get frustrated because of lack of eggs, so take the nest box out. The other things could contribute to it are diet, enrichment, poor grooming, or illness. A lot of birds pluck their feathers when they are bored, so make sure she is getting plenty of enrichment (things that stimulate her mentally and physically) like toys, things she can tear apart as well an appropriate and varied diet. You can always have a vet do a check up to be on the safe side, but try those things and see if her behavior changes. Hopefully she hasn’t plucked her feathers to the point of harming the follicles. If she has those feathers may never grow back.
She is sweet now but wait till the hormones kick in, they don’t call them floor sharks for no reason……my boy has given me a few unwanted piercings when I haven’t noticed his feather colour warnings (wish I could see in UV like they do) 🤣🤣🤣🤣 wouldn’t give him up for the world though 🥰🥰
