Around college, when I was sitting and studying a lot, I realized I could no longer balance on one foot. I almost couldn't jump anymore. This was the process of becoming an adult???!! Just less than 10 years earlier, I was jumping, biking, climbing trees. This "juvopause" we accept in life puts the first nail in our coffin. I noticed it and started fighting it. I was not going to put my time in to be promoted to high management donut-eater. Ta-da! Now, I watch my son and make sure I can imitate all of his movements. Now in my 40s, I run and jump around like a kid. I cartwheel and skip when I run. I've also done 3 Ironmans. No disease, feel like I'm 16. Never stop being a kid.
Isn’t it great! Thrilling even to be able to play through our entire lives! I’m still riding bikes and climbing trees and jumping whatever I want in my late 60s!!!

Cartwheels? Relax dude

71 and I LOVE this age. You spend the first 40 years being Programmed and then the last 40 years DE-Programming. I refused to accept that as a woman my Shelf Life stopped at 30. I planned for this time of my life. I take good care of my body and mind. Moved to Santa Fe because I planned to do the Art I put off while raising kids. If it sells that is not the point Now it's an exercise in being in that Flow State.
My Mind is a lot more interesting. My boundaries are more defined. I no longer "suffer fools". While I'm not pushed around by hormones anymore, it doesn't mean I am no longer a sexual person. My attitude shows and when I look up a man will be staring at me. I left a 4 year relationship to move here...and He was half my age. We knew it wasn't forever and we parted as better people having known each other.
I agree with what you said. I am 46. At 40 I started reprogramming. It's a process and it's so freeing.
@@Latricia130 ✌😊 When you realize you wasted time on BS....it's frees up a lot of energy.😄

I will be 62 on Jan 17 and despite breast cancer last September and a lumpectomy- I feel happier and more content and at peace than ever in my life!
I slept & dreamt that life was joy, I awoke & saw that life was service, I acted & behold..service was joy. -Tagore
The end of this podcast where Rich gives chip props and then asks him about how to create and sustain change and he answers by saying to form a community around you made me tear up. Nice work!
Good luck with your continuing recovery Chip. That’s a wonderful way to look at cancer, that it’s a great teacher. I am a 65 CZcamsr and was on the carnivore diet and had a stroke! Although fortunately I was able to get the clot buster drug and almost immediately recovered, I have radically changed my diet to a low fat whole foods plant based lifestyle. Like you and your cancer, my stroke has been a very great teacher. I also appreciated the idea of no longer showing off but showing up instead. Thanks so much for everything you shared. YOU have lots to teach all of us and I appreciate everything you shared. I pray for your complete healing. Good luck with the book too. 💝🎉🎄🎅🎄🎉💝🎉🎄
Your life can change immediately when you change your dialogue. Powerful stuff. Thank you! 🔥🔥👍
You really bring new guests compared to other podcasts, thanks!!
I said I would become a Adult when I turned 50, now I'm 53, so I recently changed it to 60. Enjoy the sm things.
Amazing chat!! Feel so strongly about this at 66 I don’t feel bound by anyone else’s preconceived notions of what or where I should be. I know you have so much more to share and look forward to following you.
Moral beauty…that sums up my experience with jiu jitsu.. it changes lives. So much support, respect and giving back.
Gotta say my 50s are my unhappiest decade yet. It's the time that all the failures and disappointments hit. Big what was it all for energy. Yesterday on my walk the big tears came as I wanted my life back. Appreciate the thought, but not feeling it. Maybe I'll come out of it at 60.
I can relate. I hope you'll find community and perspective that renews hope.
What you have now is what you wished you had in 10 years. Dont wish your life to start living. One day at a time - its all mindset, if you think you have a shitty life you will. You are alive so live. Do not look at anyone elses life. Be authentic and kind to yourself but please dont wish your life away
50's are a tuff jam !
Ye Ole walk of tears !! Clears Ya ooot evv'ry-time it does !

This is the most inspiring thing that I’ve heard in my life.
A spring in my step.
thank you

Thank you for expanding the conversation around mid life... It's a major transition that we're expected to navigate with no guidance although everyone experiences it. This is invaluable. ❤
Loved this❣️I have been searching for these these kind of communities. I live in Florida which in general is of the old mindset. It seems online is all that’s available.
I think my enthusiasm at 72 scares people. Lol
Having aomething in your life that you are a beginner at is like the fountain of youth.
I loved this episode! Thank you!!!🙏 I have finally arguments for my age fluidity😛 I have never felt affected by age, I am eager to learn and evolve everydays of my life. Only times I think of my age is when people make me notice it.
Love and blessings to Chip on his learning journey . What respect for being alive he generates ! Once again Rich Roll gives us meaningful content . Thank you ❤

Investing has proven to be an incredibly beneficial decision. My cryptocurrency profits continue to play a substantial role in growing my overall wealth, reducing my reliance on my salary
You the man Rich love your work 👏🏻👏🏻
What an absolutely insightful and inspiring, life affirming and reassuring conversation. The late great educator Sir Ken Robinson highlighted fascinating research on the pairing of schools with older folks in institutions and the mutual benefits on multiple levels. Absolutely loved this episode - thank you to you both ..
I think that I could watch this video 5x.
This was absolutely fantastic!
This is brilliant - best RR podcast ever. Love this way of thinking. Chip is brilliant.
I'm 35, and so much of what Chip offered resonated. Thank you!
Amazing. Inspirational. Impactful. Soul-stirring ❤
Great episode, again! Thanks to both of you for your perspective.
So good!! Needed to hear all these amazing ideas , thank you!
What a brilliant, intelligent, clued up man! As a 55-year-old man [chronologically speaking] every single word that Chip said resonates with me.
I wanted this today! Thank you x
Love this guy. Can’t wait to hear more.
Absolutely beautiful....and you are BOTH MORAL BEAUTIES💕
I love this!! It spoke to my spirit!! Let's get it done!!!
Great conversation and a really under-discussed topic!
Such a great conversation.
Great podcast! ❤
When asked our age, how about saying I identify as in my 50s, whether or not chronologically that is accurate. I’m going with it.!!! thank you for that nudge!!
Thank you rich for everything you do! Thank you for sharing! I would love for you to consider Richard Rohr for a future podcast.
Thank you!
Love it
I hope his challenges improve. It's going to be interesting what Gen Z and Millennials do as they age (and what affect that has on the economy). I'm 64 and still working and have been lucky to have a job I am fulfilled at and able to look forward to a new chapter later on. In these days of inflation, economic uncertainty and people living paycheck to paycheck it's really a point of privilege to say "I'm going to quit my job, I'm going to take a gap year and find myself, I'm going to follow my passion". I guess the point is how to age, find meaning and contribute to your own wellbeing and help others when you can't do those things. Good listen as always.
Yes
You get experience with age, but most gets wounded, not wiser
OMG I stayed at The Phoenix ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Please get Dacher Keltner on the podcast, he'd make such a wonderful guest.
Invisible woman in my 40s here and I love it! 🥰
You should sell that ability. I wasn’t aware anyone could actually become invisible. I’ve always wondered what that would be like.
Why is he not on a whole food, plant based, oil fee vegan diet? I believe in doing both conventional and holistic protocols. Over 30 years of research supports whole food living especially for cancer patients. His cancer protocol is brutal. I’ve seen men go through it and die a horrific death.Dr. Charles Nutting, radiologist oncologist, STAT. I’d hate to lose this visionary aging leader because he follows one path. Dr. Brooke Goldner for his healing food path. Survivor. Certified Patient Navigator. Certified Sage-ing Leader. Certified Yoga Therapist. 🙏
I would so love it if the eye, gazing exercise could be modified in someway to accommodate people who are blind, and cannot I gay. It has been one of my biggest griefs in life that I cannot look into the eyes of the people I love. Whenever I hear about gazing and eyes being the windows of the soul I feel like I’m missing something huge. I know there’s a way around but I don’t know what it is yet. 47:13
I really enjoyed this conversation. I agree with age being just a number, and many other ideas discussed. However, the idea of a "gap year", or even a 3 month sabbatical is way out of reach for most Americans. Have you thought of the fact that those of us who are not living the life of our dreams after age 50 probably don't have the resources to take time off work, let alone spend thousands of dollars on a workshop?

@33 min: If giving/serving makes you happy, (especially when you have become sad/hopeless), it is obvious that- Service - is your True Nature...Not the egotistic attitude imposed by an environment that is generated by others trying to make money.
"Age fluid" -- wonderful term
Super interesting convo, but not sure about the age-fluidity thing..esp. when it comes to romance stuff this can be tricky and used in a bad manner. Just say your age and add how you feel about it. People will judge either way if they want to and if they don't, they won't : )
Doctors who do bioidentical hormones DISAGREE with reducing hormones if men get that type of cancer. Just thought you should know.
Love this - but can’t get past “age fluid” 😂 In the UK, I’ve heard it used multiple times in reference to adults saying “age doesn’t exist as we know it” to excuse questionable relationships and sometimes peadophilia 😬 such a great podcast - just the term for me 🤢
It is easy for the two of you to say that one should escape "successism" when you are already successful and financially secure. Your identities (and your egos, which clearly neither of you have transcended despite suggestions to the contrary) are bound up in the success that you achieved by hustling. If you could go back and tell your younger selves to avoid successism, but that meant that your current selves would be less successful and fulfilled, I wonder whether you would actually do it. I doubt it. So is this genuine advice? Or is it some kind of sophistry? Further, you are treating this thing that you're calling successism as if it were a disease that could be overcome by individuals, but, in fact, people are driven to "successism" by our economic system. Unless you are very successful (in Australia where I live, at least), then you can't buy a house, and you could be evicted by a landlord when you're 70 years old. Imagine having to compete with other people for a HOME at that age. This reality is a pretty strong motivation for a healthy dose of successism. Despite my reaction to some parts of the conversation, I do think these are important conversations to have and I appreciate you both for having had it and shared it with us.
So only for people TURNING 50 this year and HAVE 7 friends that they would want to take there....., ok so that certainly ostracizes most of us. Now i just feel worse :/
It is true that middle class people have existential crises and seek help to face the normal existence of aging. Getting older (if we're fortunate) is human. To die is human. Getting angsty about aging or dying is a luxury that many cannot afford. Fairly accurate resource material but could have been better researched. Very distracted by the interruptions of "anti-aging" snake oil sales and them talking AT us and not to us. This ongoing trend of looking away from the camera and still talking is rude and unprofessional. I had to listen without looking at it and am reasonably sure that I am not the only person who feels this way.
Rich you are vital and engaged, Julie too.
Too many hall Mark card sayings. Geeze. Hope you heal.
Poor men
Isn't this innate? It's 2024 and I need to be more selective and stop assuming wisdom is here.
Average lifespan is 73 for adult males in USA-our 60s are NOT midlife...
How? Lol it must be so hard to be happy when ur 60 n financially well off. Those broke 20 year olds have all the fun xD
What the fuck is this guy on anyhways ?
He definetly been delivered some special happy pills !
The best way to manage your money according to this Greedy Chip Conley is to give to his Elder Academy.
Snake oil salesman. Do your homework Rich !
Theres no need to explain 'age-fluidity' by describing what 'gender-fluidity' is. I was otherwise enjoying watching something that for once isnt banging on about the transgender agenda.
