    I wrench professionally on higher end European automobiles. Use Stanley and harbor freight with 0 problems. the lead mechanic and owner of course have all that high end stuff. I couldn't justify paying that kinda price, yeah it's better metal but so what. I do own some blue point air tools which I love but got them cheap. Its about how you use the tool, lubrication helps a lot and knowing what size to use to loosen a nut helps as well. Lol i get filthy at work, the lead mechanic stays clean I'm not sure how. I don't use gloves though I can't wrench with them on. Id rather wrench with harbor freight and tekton and buy a house or something nice with the saved cash that's a no brainer

      Well said, I'm 18, I'm a weekend warrior with my car learning as I go and I'd like to be a Mechanic/auto services technician. I don't have the money nor would I want to waste away money on $150 $200 ratchets, sockets, tools etc. That's why I've settled with HF and their ICON line of ratchets and Pittsburgh too. The ICON ratchets and torque wrenches have outperformed and matched Snap Off, tons of videos demonstrate my statement. Bolts and the customer couldn't care less what brand tool you're using.. What matters is finishing the job and doing it properly. :)

    I am a Mercedes tech. If you are in the trade and you want a very good professional ratchet, get the Pittsburgh. You will not be sorry. I would recommend opening it up and applying grease to it as this makes it smooth as silk. these are way better than snap on. better price, better warranty, and you will be happy. I state this again that i always grease up my ratchets. tools need to be taken care of. These are the best ratchets I have ever used and I have been a professional mechanic for almost 26 years. this ratchet has never broke on me but my snap on ratchets have broken many times! Also I have never broke a Pittsburgh socket and I have been using the same set for 23 years professionally! Soon the import tools will not be so cheap because of inflation and trade wars. So I strongly suggest getting tooled up now while you can still get a good deal. do not buy an expensive tool because of fear of what others will think. there are a lot of great tools that are better than snap on for a fraction of the cost. I saw in his collection the Titon micro 1/4 ratchet. I have it and love it. Also I have used the earthquake 1/2 impact gun for 17 years of hard use! Best cheap tool I ever bought and lasted 17 times longer than both my IR and Mac that both failed after 1 year each! I know that a big reason new mechanics feel pressured to buy snap on is because they fear people looking down on them! It is why I did.

    I was a mechanic long before Harbor Freight was a company. The majority of my tools were Craftsman and Snap-On. I don’t know how many trips I took to Sears to replace broken tools. I had exactly three broken Snap-On tools replaced. Having said that. I currently have some Other brands including Harbor Freight tools in may box. My Go too ratchets are 1/4” drive Pittsburg Pro fixed head, Titan swivel head, Snap-On flex head long handle. 3/8” drive, fixed head Pittsburgh Pro, Snap-On Flex Head. 1/2” drive, Pittsburgh Pro fixed head. Snap-On flex head. Note, All my Snap-On tools are over 40 years old, except for the three that broke. Two of those were screwdrivers whose handles disintegrated and they could no longer replace just the handle, and just gave me new screwdrivers.

    • @737mechanic
      @737mechanic  Před rokem +2

      Snap-on without a doubt are the best tools made, the problem is the price. Mechanics do not make doctor wages and I know mechanics that was so eaten up with buying Snap-On that they lived like they were homeless because they had no money for anything else.

    I have to agree with you on those roto heads, they are great. I use them and enjoy them the same ways you do. I do industrial maintenance and have used my 3/8" roto head for a few years now with no issues. I did smooth the inside edges of that slit down the middle but that's no big deal. I also really enjoy my 1/4" drive pro composite ratchet. The resistance of the ratcheting mechanism in the back strike is super light which is handy for those nuts in hard to reach spots that don't turn with much resistance. It is also super light and temperature neutral which is nice. Today I went and picked up the 1/2" version for home.

    Thanks for great real-world, pro-mechanic insight and especially after a lot of time of in-hand actual work. Snap On makes excellent tools, but for core hand tools and especially boxes/storage they're just not worth it. The truck model is meant for the time when there weren't lots of Harbor Freights, NAPA, etc. I wound up with the Icon models, which are also excellent. And prices? The 1/4" Pittsburch/Icon/Snap On are $15/$35/$160 and 3/8" are $18/$40/$196(!). Multiply that pricing across your box and you wind up with a mechanic that retires with virtually nothing in the bank...

Their 3940 ratchet also has dual pawls with short throw.Their wrenches bite the rounded nut even better than the Snap on. They do have a cheaper brand called Cougar that's made in taiwan. Their screw drivers have big beefy handles just right for big hands. Wright- one of the last truely USA made tools. The cougars have the same lifetime warranty as the Wright's warranty.

      It has and always fits into the areas other ratchets fail and tot have the constant torque since there is no u joint to work about so you know exactly how much force you are applying

    I'm not sure about the green handled roto heads you shown in the video but I know for a fact that the new red and black handled roto heads are made of chrome molybdenum which is a really strong steel that you find in high end tools. I'm not even sure snap-on uses chrom-moly on their ratchets needless to say I'm impressed with the quality harbor freight seems to be stepping into with the pro line of tools much like you for years I thought they sold pure junk but they are changing my mind even snap-on thought they were stepping the quality up to a point it concerned them to the point they tried to sue harbor freight for patent infringement over the Daytona floor jack snap-on lost but to think snap-on was worried about a China made jack speaks to the quality of the Daytona jack. I like the new flex head ratchets from harbor freight but I think I'm going to pick up a set of those roto head ratchets. Great video and it's nice to see other professional technicians using what many people say is for weekend warriors or shade tree mechanics, I say if it works why do I need to spend hundreds or thousands more for a name and maybe a slightly better tool.

      @@joeframer9642 I've got my share of snap-on ratchets but when I need to abuse a ratchet I'd much rather use a 30 dollar el'cheapo however I have bought all my snappy ratchets and most the other snappy stuff used then just buy a repair kit or have the guy throw one in it depending on his schedule but I'll leave the new snappy for the tech's that don't have a family to raise then buy theirs used once the baby is born, or as the older guys retire still like snap-on just ain't going to hang out on the rape van. Besides I believe some snap-on ratchets I've bought had foreign parts inside there's a reason they didn't stamp it made in the USA my guess it wasn't to save money on the stamp.
      As far as a real mechanic not having time to go to HF I can go to HF a lot faster than waiting on the tool truck but like the guy in the video I have multiples of most of my tools if one breaks oh well grab another and get back at it swing by hf sometime later or on the weekend it's not about not being able to afford snap-on I've got them but I don't always want to abuse a snap-on ratchet and really I've seen Tiawan ratchets hold 600 ft pounds or better not saying snap-on won't but would you really want to try it.
