    I like your honesty, i was lucky enough to purchase my portals the day they came out with the gen 2, i had no idea i was getting a newer version but from what i can tell they upgraded everything youve called them out on. I dont ride no where near as hard as most guys but as soon as i start to see or hear anything snap ill let you know. Running 29" out law 2s on 14" 4 seater rzr 900. Stock axles with highlifter arched arms.

      +chase crowder you'll still have issues with the gaskets getting cut and leaking but yeah they know their gen ones had a ton of issues... Hence the Gen 2 lol wish they would honor their warranty

    Good feedback.
    I want to do something stupid and daily drive portals on the street.
    I would expect a company to honor the warranty and fix problems so what I'm about to say shouldn't be something you're interested in, but I'm really curious how many of your problems might be solved by venting the portals. It wouldn't be ideal but you could plumb them into the chassis. Again, not really something that anyone should really consider, just a curious Idea.

    • @MudPuppyOffroad
      @MudPuppyOffroad  Před 3 měsíci

      I think venting would help a lot. But they specifically say venting will avoid the warranty. They've improved a lot of these issues on the generation 3 but the seals are steel garbage

    • @ExtraFungus
      @ExtraFungus Před 3 měsíci

      @@MudPuppyOffroad yeah, it would be interesting to play with gaskets, I laser cut gaskets myself making a few discontinued OE replacements.
      The lifetime warranty is so constraining, it would be a shame to void it.

  • @robertnorris4642
    @robertnorris4642 Před 4 lety +1

    Maybe to fix this issue would be to have harden alignment pins to mate up the two bodies and also have the matting surfaces machined o-ring grove and use o-ring gasket to seal. The regular gasket shouldn't cut or push out unless your having a movement issue. Just seems to me if they are selling billet units that they could do easy machine work to fix the leaking issues.

    • @thesouthernlife4061
      @thesouthernlife4061 Před 3 lety +1

      Bingo 2 alignment pins with oring gaskets would fix all the issues pressure still may blow out oil seals need some type of check valve vent to let pressure out and no water in

    Honest review is appreciated about the portals. I was thinking about purchasing about the portals but if they won’t stand behind there product no sense spending the money ! They are not a cheap purchase either ! That’s why people buy them is to put them through the paces not to be trailer queens ! Come on super atv stand behind products !!!!!!!

    my portal gaskets leaked on every single ride. sold them after the fourth ride and rebuild. i even had half the gasket hang out of the side of the portal after a two hour ride. was cut in half. i thought about drilling a vent hose spot but it would void the warranty so i didn't. wish i never had them. didnt have them long enough to have the nut issue

    Can you vent the portal with a strong braided hose n a remote bellow mounted some where safe under the hood, or wherever?
    It might relive the pressure enough to allow the grease in the bolt thread to seal enough to not leak, or let water in.

Here’s a video that explains how they work. czcams.com/video/IKwWu2w1gGk/video.html I use one to keep the retaining nut from backing off the fan on my hovercraft. My 2nd thought was something to seal the bolt pathway to keep water from entering. Sikaflex 252 might be something to try. Both Nord-locks and Sikaflex 252 are Amazon items.
