- With any project car we try to get as much baseline data as possible, this helps us as we develop products in the future. The G80 M3 Competition is no different, so we got it down to Santa Pod to see what it can do in the 1/4 mile!
We weren't just testing the standard car however, we also had the first working prototype @Eventuri intake to get some initial data with.

Love these types of vids👌🏽
that is impressively quick for a stock car RWD and then you ran with the photo type intake 11.57 that's fast Imran and as consistent as any 911 with traction/launch control awesome 👍 and this car is over 4000 lbs
Not a fan of the way the G80 looks but yours actually has me turning my head for some reason. Those wheels with that fitment... and that color really comes together wow
I really enjoyed this. Well done. Thanks.
Brilliant development as always, even with plastic prototype intake is very impressive figures. Keep up that good work.
Cheers! We will be doing a full development series on this kit.
That’s moving ! I’m very impressed.
It's 12.00 here. Was trying to get my sleep schedule in order. But when I saw this video, I couldn't resist
Sorry about that 😅
nice launches mate!
I love the look of your car, especially on the gold wheels and the black ones are already mint!!
Man you have made it look awesome
Love the alloys on this ride. Old meets the new love it!!!!!!
Great video again. 👍
Love to see that you're running it that hard..
Good stuff Imran
I love these kinda videos! 😎🤓
Very very impressive! Great video mate
Thank you Tim 😊
The G80 platform looks very promising, can't wait to see what the xdrive puts down.
Very promising indeed!
Should be bonkers
The xdrive is gonna put some fast cars to shame
N54 puts it down for 80k less
@@colin55594 yeah and will be a broken piece of shit too just like the g80 in 5 years
Those wheels just don't hit like the stock wheels
Agreed
I’d love to see you guys work on the new M5 CS. That’s already a beast. With your touch….madnesssssss
I think the driver could tweak a couple things and would have better/more consistent results...he doesnt let it consistently and fully boost build every time he does the launch sequence. you can see it very obviously reflected in the 0-30 time on dragy that pops up. he keeps saying "spinning" but nothing appears to be spinning excessively, but it is leaving the line sluggish . His best times are when he allows more time to launch. Also, if you are only trying to get accurate data on improvements from mods and not just beating the other guy to the end, then disregard the guy in the other lane and no one says you have to go immediately when it turns green. your time doesnt start til you cross. so get your launch sequence right and consistent. The performance you can get out of mass produced 4 door(practical?) cars that are comfortable and well trimmed is immense. These things are weapons. I look forward to watching your videos
Was he Launching in 2nd every time? Most
A friend just got one of these. Stock I was curious if it was faster than my C6 Z06, looks like it's probably almost as fast from a roll.
Lower rear tyre pressures if you're struggling to put the power down, or just buy some slicks?
it definitely sounds like it's going from 2nd to 4th gear every time. have you logged to confirm this? I'm really curious what it's doing. maybe they found the gearing too short and use 2nd for launching and skip 3rd for to get the best times from the factory?
This development looks great. Please post some videos of your development of your RS6 air box mule. You’ve got a lot of interested customers around the world waiting for it.
RS6 Eventuri development update coming on Friday!
I love the new look its tuff 👍I ran 11.6 in my 335i @ 122mph on a 1.9 60ft in Australia not saying my car is that quick but the 60ft is where its at
11.6 is hauling! What have you done to the N54? Everything? 😅
@@TML34 just china 17ts coustom tune full budget build
Very impressed with the transparency - inspires trust. 👍🏾
All good but how much fuel do you have in the tank after you switch to prototype CAI?also we have to consider the run after run that the M3 did with out a y issues!!
It wasn’t changing enough to be a real variable, but you are of course correct. Development process has many forms of testing, this is just one of them.
Didn’t Matt Watson do ta similar time in the M440i?
M3 is looking great, i'm curious as to the performance difference when the Xdrive comes out :)
We can’t wait to see what the xDrive model can do when ours arrives!
Took me a 3 years to learn how to luanch...and.. took alot of drags to get it right...I see your issue hear..!! Inbox me..!!
3.2s 0-60, 11.3s @ 121.3 1/4 Mile - BMW M3 G80 G82
Definitely sounds better with the Eventuri intake and also make the engine bay look a lot more cooler to look at. Thanks for the video.
Did Launch Control activate with MDM or DSC completely off? Manual says turn off DSC which is kinda vague since MDM limits DSC. (Can't test myself due to break-in period)
DSC fully off
Awesome times considering the a stock M5 f90 Competition only does 11.3 - to 11.1 on the quarter mile that’s pretty good indeed.
Yes we’re very impressed for a standard car!
They do 10.8
ONLY?? Yes 11.1 is slow.
Lol 11.1 to 11.7 is an entirely different planet
Evolve M3 wagon Xdrive is going to be an absolute weapon
Going to be a fun one!
What are those wheels work and I get them?
Crazy times for a stock car mad! I swear that Blue car has never moved from Santa pod near the gantry 😆🙌 old Nissan, been there since the first time I ever went there around 12+ years ago 😆
Really impressive for a stock car with a full tank of fuel and a hot UK summer day. Launches so well for a RWD car.
@@EvolveAutomotive amen broski
I love these R&D videos, but can I make a suggestion Can you make up a playlist where you get your back ground music from? It definitely intensifies the video experience, plus I’m a music head🤣✌🏾
All music is always linked in the description ✌🏻
Doesnt rev very high during launch does it. What rpm is it launching at?
It starts in 2nd gear during launch control...
when a Technical video became an entertainment one
On 2 of those runs you can hear it shift from 2nd to 3rd and then immediately to 4th! Why was that happening? It didn't seem to affect the run times by much...
Example at 06:12
It might have just cut the power for a moment . Anyway kinda sketchy
@@WallabyWinters it clearly shifted to 3rd and then quickly to 4th, you can tell from the speed at the next shift!
It’s strange to see that the dragy is off by 0.15 ish. I wonder why? I’ve never had such a discrepancy with mine.
Possibly issues with getting accurate satellite lock, can't say for sure.
The Dragy device, should we overall be concerned with its accuracy ? I mean same stretch of road, but the height meter jumps up and down. One run its uphill, the next one its downhill.
We only see a problem at Santa Pod, elsewhere it is fairly consistent
@@EvolveAutomotive Must be some kind of interference at that facility.
The start line is surrounded by metal structures so that possibly confuses it giving a variance to the readings. All speculation of course.
WHAT WHEELS ARE THOSE? Help me !!
6SIXTY Shuriken
Did anyone see TR HAMZA m140 went faster after he took the eventuri intake off and replaced with the stock airbox?
that why alot of people dont fit intakes anymore as they known for losing power he should do a remap with stock and intake aftermarket
They’re only good for sound imo which you can get with a cheap intake 😅
Tune it we wanna see it on carwow ❤️
This car won’t be tuned, our next one will 🤫
@@EvolveAutomotive okay can't wait
Trap speed is the real indicator if the intake is making power.
Still impressive times for a stock car on street tires and rwd.
1mph difference in initial testing
@@EvolveAutomotive best run before and after was about 0.3mph
@@dmc5681 so basically the intake gives it no power gain at all
@@av8743 why should it? The limiting factors are temps and of course, the stock ECU/map...
On NA will be more important, but on stock turbo engine is as useful as a car wash...
@@TheSilviu8x ya that’s what I’m saying. Maybe with a tune it will give power increase but I reckon not more than 10whp.
Bro! theres no need for an intake.... Did it really justify the price you would pay for one of those for the difference in real world performance? no not at all
The one lesson from this video proves intakes don’t make any performance gain.
This stock rear drive don't need it, the 4x4 one that's gonna be tuned will need this like an asthmatic one!
Rims need to have a black mesh
11.5 in stock form on a development intake is very impressive! That's touching on stage 2 RS3 territory! With a less fuel and a cooler day that thing is running mid/high 10's all day!
Very impressed for a standard car!
Where did the rear spoiler go?
Testing prototypes and decided to leave it off
@@EvolveAutomotive I want one!!!!! Lol!!!!
I need a couple of those T-shirts in 2XL. Your job seems so exasperating... (still gonna miss the F80). Oh well...
You can get them from ctrlandshift.com ✌🏻
Is it 100 to 200 kph or mph?
KPH 😅
👍
The ECU has been cracked so it shouldn’t be long before we see this doing 10 sec 1/4 mile time. I hear stage 2 will be 700BHP+, should be cool.
Yes although we are yet to see real proof. We hope by the time our G82 M4 xDrive arrives we will be able to write to the ECU.
Love my G80 had it for just over a month. Yet to do a launch control / track day! Unfortunately mine came with the Pirelli’s so need to change to the PS4’s
Make sure you get the * rated ones!
@@EvolveAutomotive what’s the difference and how would I know? And sorry for the questions first M car I’ve ever had. Relatively new to it all
@Evolve Automotive trying to figure out I lost my right front tyre of my X4M two months ago. It's a Conti Sport contact 6. At that time I didn't realize at all that the tyres came out with M cars are different from aftermarket ones. So I bought an aftermarket one and put it on. What harms would it do to my car or should I find a * rated one immediately?
Thank you!
@@EvolveAutomotive what’s the difference can you explain?
Charging back to the start line, must be adding to the heat
The 3D print material would not survive being heatsoaked, the best way to combat this is to keep moving to allow cold air through the front.
@@EvolveAutomotive do you have Tommy Tape / Polyimide over there?
Getting an xdrive version
Already on order
*Question for Imran @ Evolve Automotive*
Can an M performance titanium exhaust be fitted on a BMW F90 in the UK?
Apparently BMW don't provide it in Europe (possibly due to EU eco-nazi regulations). But if its purchased off the net, can it be installed or would there be complications (with the ECU etc ) and legal implications?
Would need to look in to it, but can't overly see why not.
🔥🔥🔥🇨🇴🇨🇴
These should get into the 11.5s at some point bone stock I think, better DA and whatnot
Possibly with less fuel in tank and better conditions
Already seen 11.6 on the M4. The awd will be 11.20 11.30s
Where I’m from 26 degrees would be great. We have an average of 35 degrees where I’m from.
stock wheels looks soooo much better
Those eyeglasses 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾...
Which brand are they?
☕️✌🏻🤜🏽👊🏻✊🏻
Would you say the intake helped or no
.15s reduction in 1/4 mile time if we go by Santa Pod’s timing for both before/after runs. We would say so.
Xdrive will be a 10.89 car! Watch and see…
gutting about the honda civic though. I don't like this M3 but it's performance is v impressive
What was?
@@EvolveAutomotive sorry, I mean gutting to see a brand new stock M3 beaten by a what looks like a 20 year old beaten up old civic. no idea what is going on inside the civic, just looks disappointing
It’s a fully built turbo civic on drag radials that is doing 10s 1/4s. Not a chance in hell that the M3 would beat it,
@@EvolveAutomotive that explains it then
if there are subtitles it would be better, After all, my speakers were broken.
Nissan blue bird 🐦
🤙👏👏👏👏👏LIKE
how come none of these lambo or r8 guys at drag strips can never launch on time hahahahahahhahaha
Test and tune day, not competition. So reaction time makes no difference.
when you make a new bumper/grill for it then ill take the car seriously...
You aren't giving it near enough time to build boost.
Car could run an 8 second quarter mile and I would still never want one
Those alloys totally ruin the m3
You are not allowing in a consistent way to build boost, humble opinion
It sounds great but the grill, the grill, the grill Jesus Christ..
How come the Gradient on the draggy keeps changing even though it’s the same place or surface?
It seems there are places that it struggles. The start line of Santa Pod is surrounded by large metal structures that might be throwing it off slightly.
Why so slow ?
Really not a fan of those wheels
This thing is barely faster than my stock, manual 2002 C5 Z06 was in the 1/4mi. Yawn. Hideous design too.
Sure, the front end is ugly. It's still faster and has about 1/2 the displacement. Justify the stock vs stock all you want. The S58 engine needs a tune and some E85 to make over 650whp. It will handle 900+whp on totally unopened and unmodded engine. Let me know when an unopened LS motor can handle anywhere near that kind of power per liter.
@@zachmayock Oh hai, LSX - Good for 2000HP. You really don't know much about American blocks.
@@chbrules I'm not talking about just the block. An unopened motor. Stock head, valvetrain, rods, bearings, pistons, crankshaft, block, etc.
@@zachmayock I'd bet quite a bit of money that the stock S58 will NOT hold up to 900RWHP+ for any reasonable period of time, if at all. The types of materials required for that in said engine just aren't cost engineered into it from BMW. BMW's engine quality is pretty average shit, especially their famed M cars (which I've owned). Hell, they can't even get bearing clearances correct, for Christ's sake.
@@chbrules Lol N54's hold up at 700-750whp for a while on a stock open-deck aluminum block, run of the mill forged rods, and non-forged pistons from the factory. A few have held 850+whp for a couple years. That said, the safe long-term limits of the engine are only 650-700whp.
Anyways, the S58 is a complete upgrade from top to bottom. Lower compression, higher quality forged components, closed-deck block, etc. I would be incredibly surprised if they don't hold 800-8500whp for the long-run and 900-1000+whp at least for a couple years.
Bearings are a thing of the past. The N54 doesn't have any issues there. The S55 doesn't have any issues. No reason to believe the S58 is going to have bearing or clearance issues.
Those gold wheels …. 😂😂🤮
Don’t know how to do a 2nd gear burnout get those tires warm…lol
Slug for a stock car….should be in low 11s at 125, but it’s not
The wheels dont work in my eyes. They age the car .
It’s gotten way too long, wide, heavy. Not going to touch the controversial grilles, obvious. Wonder what an LCI might bring🤔 Maybe a “CS” model will toss the pounds.
So you can spend a few thousand pounds in getting the induction kit fitted, invalidate your warranty and get a car that’s no faster 🤔!!
Except… it is faster? 🤔
Due to the nature of the plastic prototype it was unlikely we would ever get 3 consistent results, however 2 runs quicker than what was achieved completely stock is enough data (along with other testing that has been done) to validate the initial design and take it forward. By the end we could see the prototype deforming from the heat and allowing hot air in to the system, which is where we expect the loss of ET came from.
Horrible driver
