      I wouldn’t call it “breaking out”!😳
      Queen Elizabeth had SMALL POX! It causes tons of pus filled blisters. Small pox is disfiguring, highly contagious & DEADLY!
      You might call Robert sweet, but he took a huge risk comforting her. Due to how contagious small pox is, he risked dying a painful death himself as well as spreading it to others. Small Pox can be spread easily, through talking (airborne), skin to skin contact, blood , saliva, etc.
      In fact, Mary was only 29 when she was initially thought to be sick w the common cold. 7 days later... they believed she would most certainly die.
      True, They didn’t know a lot about spreading disease back then. However, they knew it spread fast AND what SMALL POX looked like. No wonder the masses succumbed diseases. 😞 😔

    I love the movie but I think the exchange between Robbie and William it’s a little off base. If I remember there was talk of Elizabeth wanting to marry Robbie, however The scandals surrounding his wife’s suicide made the marriage virtually impossible. There was no shortage of rumors that she and Robert were already an item while the wife was still alive. And her suicide letter fueled rumors further still. They said suicide was not a suicide but a murder staged as such. I’m fairly confident There was no foul play, But had they married it would have fueled the propaganda her enemies were using to try and disenfranchise her as queen.

      What, Amy wrote a suicide letter?!😳

    • @nombre7991
      @nombre7991 Před rokem +5

      @@marysstella_ she didn't. In fact her last letter was to a taylor asking about a dress she had ordered, which is why everyone found it unlikely that she had commited suicide. Her death was almost certainly accidental, Dudley wouldn't have been dumb enough to kill her when he could have just got a marriage annulment by asking Elizabeth

    • @nombre7991
      @nombre7991 Před rokem +1

      I found that exchange very strange too. It was no secret that Dudley wanted to marry Elizabeth and pursued her for up to 20 years. William Cecil was a great detractor of Robert Dudley and would have never asked him to propose, and if he did, Robert would have never refused lol

    All due respect to the actor portraying Robert, but the real Dudley was called "The Gypsy" because he had dark hair and eyes and I assume a darker complexion than a typical English man. Plus, he had a certain grace and swagger. And the Scottish accent of a queen raised in France is annoying!
