  • Laser engraving with power coating is not as simple as it seems. Let us know what you think. Here are our thoughts on the process.

It's great you share some of the downsides to methods too. It saves a lot of people a load of time and expense to come to a similar conclusion so thank you! 👍

A - Mask off the area before engraving. Oramask works great but masking tape will also work.
B - Don't move it. Use magnets/hold downs/corner squares....anything to keep the piece in place while you apply the powder.
C - no air of course while you melt the powder.
Those three tips will guarantee success. 💯

Engrave a little deeper then use heat gun to melt powder. Sand off the excess.

Good video, regarding the painting method. Use dewaxed shellac after you carve. This will seal the end grain and prevent your paint from wicking. Glad I saw this before trying the powder coat.

Would defocusing (on the initial and powder coat) help create a smoother melt of the powder coat?

There is better ways to infill lettering. Most powder coat cures at 380 - 400 degrees, for 10 - 15 mins. After the base material gets to the cure temp.

Also powdercoat does not like to stick to carbon I worked at a powder coater at a laser cutting factor and we had to make sure all carbon from cutting or engraving or the powder coat would just break right off the metal but other comment 100% on info about it

Did you turn air assist off? After watching this. I don't think I want to try it now.

  • @kingdomtouchesbyajayrichrn6077
