  • In this video I review 4 different laser marking sprays on Stainless Steel and decide which one works best.
    The 4 sprays are Brilliance, CerMark, OMTech and Dry Moly Lube.

      You are very welcome. I could find any of this information online, figured others would be interested too.

    Thanks. I've tested with Brilliance - I bought a can of Cermakr but haven't used it. Maybe its not too late to return it!
    Would be nice if you did another test on clear glass where spray is essential (at least with my max 10w laser) in order to etch the glass. My engraver has both 450 and 1064 lasers - I can mark metal nicely without any spray using the 1064 - but again the spray is an absolute requirement for glass.

      I will try the spray on glass, thank you for the suggestion.

    I have a XTOOL D1 10 WATT LASER. It will mark Stainless Steel very good with CRC Dry Graphite Lube for $12.0 a can.
    I spray 3 light coats, let dry between coats. Laser power at 100 % and speed at 300 mm/minute. WORKS GREAT !! CHEAP TOO.

      I will have to try that one

      How did you clean off the remaining moly? He gave up the test before cleaning the moly off, which disappointed me. Looked to me that the moly was allowing some coloration of the SS plate... I have a can of CRC in my shop, will give it a try. I would think just plain alcohol would get it off easily? thx.

      @LeMortso use Crc DRY GRAPHITE LUBE, not the CRC GREASE LUBE. Cleanup is easy with 90% alcohol. Lastly spray 4 coats evenly and let dry between coats.

      I cannot remember. It was either Metaldepot.com or onlinemetal.com

    I'm wondering how well the marks will hold up after a dishwasher. I use a few different sprays and found that they don't always hold up in the dishwasher.

    • @kywilco369
      @kywilco369  Před 2 měsíci +2

      The OmTech, I have used a sander and the black is just about as strong as the bare stainless steel. Not sure how that compares to the dishwasher.

    Have you tried etching without the spray? Does it work at all comparatively?

    • @kywilco369
      @kywilco369  Před 5 měsíci

      Yes, it does work with a 10 watt laser but the fastest it would go and still leave a mark was 10 mm/s and it was very light. Even 4 mm/s it looked gray instead of black. I needed a Black and at high speed.

    Did you happen to have a link to the omtech spray? I can't find it anywhere but their website, with a 30 day wait time.

    im curious whether more aggressive scrubbing would have cleaned up the dry moly. Almost looks like you were starting to get some colors there. THAT SAID - dry moly is wildly toxic and should be avoided in a "home" laser setting. Investigate "welders' flu" for more information. Now, this was a very nice review but it needs to be understood - a diode laser is a miserable choice for metals of all kind. Still, I hope you are encouraged to do some more videos.

    Does this work for aluminum as well.

    • @kywilco369
      @kywilco369  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I have not tried Aluminum. The videos I saw were someone tried aluminum it scratches off very easily probably because the metal is softer and scratches much easier.

      @kywilco369 thanks for replying. I have a spray coming I'll give it a shot. Maybe try spraying a clear to protect it.

    I use nothing and mark SS perfectly.

    • @kywilco369
      @kywilco369  Před 3 měsíci

      Yes, the laser would mark on SS without the spray, but it was faster and darker with the spray. My goal was to do a 65mmx200mm plate within 1 hour. And without the spray it would not have been possible.

    • @Beecher_Dikov
      @Beecher_Dikov Před 3 měsíci

      I've got the 22 watt Creality. I guess the extra 10 watts is helping me here. I get a very dark etching on anything SS.

    • @zeronaught8990
      @zeronaught8990 Před měsícem +1

      @Beecher_Dikov do be careful because the reflection of ss can cause damage or over heat your laser in the long run

    The problems you stated toward the end were definately due to not having a proper over-scan setting. The appearance is that you do not have it enabled, should be ~ 2.5%.... It WILL certainly help this line issue you were having - for sure.... OVERSCAN needs to be set to a nominal 2.5%... I'll bet you a buck over-scan was NOT set at all.........

    • @kywilco369
      @kywilco369  Před měsícem +1

      Did not know about overscan. Thank you for the information
