    They are hated by everyone, even by their own teammates for taking all the shine. But who cares? Deathslingers are absurdly powerful fighters. They come online as soon as you click the "New Game" button in the menu interface in Baldur's Gate 3. How is this build so powerful you ask? A little bit of clicking through the level up interface, a little bit of optimization and a little bit of throwing things. But at what cost does such power come?

    Absolutelly savage build, when most martial classes pick Great Weapon Master *loweing* their atk chance to increse damage and so do Rangers with Sharpshooter, the thrower and unnarmed classes move in the opposite direction with Tavern Brawler *increasing* their atk chance, damage AND main attributes, best feat in the game for sure.

    I found you back when I first picked up Elden Ring. It was my first Souls game and I had no idea what to do, but I thought by analyzing *good* builds that people shared that I would understand the game a lot better. So thank you for that. But mainly what I wanted to say is that I'm really glad to see that you're still doing great theme builds and not just a list of classes/levels/gear like most people do.

    As a quick note here for those who want to stack more damage with this great build, purchase the Drakethroat Glaive at moonrise towers to add an extra 1d4 elemental damage on anything you want, as soon as you get to baldur's gate you can talk to the Djinn and get Nyrulna which already has a 1d6 thunder, and also it returns to you automatically, so you don't need the eldritch knight so you can go spores druid 2 level to get an extra 1d6 necrotic damage. so at the end you have:
    piercing + 3 (cuz Nyrulna enchantment) + 1d4 on the ring of flinging + 2 acid damage on the ring + 1d6 thunder as Nyrulna passive + 1d4 elemental damage (it can be lightning if you want) due to the Drakethroat glaive spell + 1d6 necrotic damage (spores druid) + tavern brawler damage.
    TLDR you can exploit this buld to do a lot of damage, amazing vid.

      @K_Arthur_Z Před 4 měsíci +11

      This is a great choice for maximazing damage, for those that don't know, You can put any weapon want on the floor, cast the elemental weapon spell of the glaive on it, and You equip it back, and the spell last until long rest

    • @cskv-ww8
      @cskv-ww8 Před 4 měsíci +10

      If You want to exploit this Even more, You can sacrifice the 2 levels in druid with 2 levels in fighter for the action surge, and 1 level in war cleric for an extra attack, so You have there 3 more attacks.
      Also in late Game You can use the bloodlust elixir so every turn You kill an enemy You have an extra action point.
      This is a very flexible build allowing You you to modify it as You want.

    I prefer playing with a Duergar Dwarf because they get Invisibility for free and enlarge which both can come in handy sometimes and in Act 3 it lets you switch between the dwarf throwing hammer which always returns to you for single target damage or the trident that always returns to you for big aoe damage, that way you dont have to bind a weapon, and then i go 4 rogue, 8 barbarian, this way we get 3 feats. alternatively you can go 9 barbarian for extra crit dmg and 3 rogue at the cost of 1 feat, or if you still take fighter its better to take Champion instead of Eldritch Knight so you get more crit

      Probably not better than the gloves of uninhibited Kushigo. Though depending on your build and preferred style the dex gloves might be better. Better AC, (Can use the Yuan-ti armor in Act 2, or the adamantine) Higher Con AND higher initiative. I do like the Helldusk gloves as well. If you want more damage there are various boots and rings you could swap in rather than the caustic band.

    Heaven't read through ALL the comments... but there are two major items about the returning pike that you need to know. 1. Wait for the pike to come back to your character before ending your turn. Otherwise, it will stay at your target. 2. I somehow lost the returning pike in the moonrise tower. I killed a guard and it was just gone. One thing that I think might have happened is that I was also jacking around with the floating orbs, so I wonder if I maybe accidentally threw the spear instead of an orb into the chasm. Or it is just a bug. Anyway it was honour mode, so I was pretty much screwed at that point.
    Luckily, I was seventh, so I just respeced to barb 4 ek 3, used a crappy spear, and since I was in Act 2, beelined to the lightning jabber. So, I didn't really lose that much because I went barb 5 for extra attack ek 4 for the asi then got my three levels in rogue. Still was an amazing build that kicked ass everywhere.

    • @seanyeo300
      @seanyeo300 Před 2 měsíci

      The returning pike needs to be thrown while the character throwing it is in combat. If thrown out of combat, it will not return. Can't speak for the other returning items since I haven't played that far with a thrower build but this is what I noticed in my current playthrough. Not sure if it returns when thrown at breakable objects like chandeliers either, but the in-combat rule should apply there as well.

    Couple of notes:
    1. DO NOT start a fight with your thrower with a throw. If you do, the return property does not work over half of the time, and you will end up having to go and grab your weapon off the ground after your very first action.
    2. Weapons that do not have the "thrown" property listed at the bottom will do basically no damage. It will typically do 1d4 at base since what you are throwing is not considered a weapon, but an improvised one. So binding one as an EK won't really be useful if it doesn't already have the "thrown" property.
    3. Do not kill with your throws from an elevated position. When you are high enough, you get extra damage from your throws, and whenever that extra damage is the cause of a death, the game considers the enemy has fallen to their death and you won't get any XP. This won't matter at level 12.
    4. The Hunter's Bow is just as good as the initiative bow, or better if you're able to regularly surprise enemies. It gives you advantage on monstrosities, and Act 1 is full of that type of enemy. It also gives you Hunter's Mark for all of the times you can't rage, and you will be spending the majority of the time NOT raging, unless you want to long rest after every three fights. For whatever reason, rage charges are long rest only, which makes zero sense.
    5. Prior to your end game piercing setup, the Dwarven Thrower is the best in slot throw weapon. You get the bonus damage by simply casting Disguise Self on your party member if they aren't already a dwarf. To actually get this weapon, you cannot have Shadowheart in your party when talking to the vendor, or else you won't even be able to get to the trade menu before they walk away.

    I think it's better to start with Eldritch Knight than Thief. Thief only comes out at level 8, and by that time you've already done the whole Underdark and those 2 other levels of Rogue did nothing for you.
    Fighter, on the other hand, gives you a shitton of defense and action surge at level 2. Even better, once you finally get Eldritch Knight at level 3, you can start using the Lightning Jabbers, which is perfect timing because they should become available right about that time, when you reach level 8.

      I'd recommend Dwarf as race, mostly so that in act 3 you can grab the Dwarven thrower from Ferg Drogher (you have to be a dwarf for the good buffs). Make sure to also grab the Drakethroat Glaive in act 2 from Roah Moonglow in Moonrise (or possibly act 1 I don't remember if Roah sells it in act 1). You can drop the Dwarven Thrower at the start of a day and use the Drakethroat to buff it with lightning (if you want).
      Otherwise you just do the base "Throwzerker" build. Or if you'd like you can do a throwing fighter with 1 lvl in War Cleric.

    As a general point, you can get to underdark/caustic band right away: get into goblin camp, take the ladder near Minthara to get to rafters and access the door into the room with the troll boss (yes you can take the secret passage up top by breaking the wall, but that often leads to a fight). Sneak past and arrive in selunite outpost. Leave laser on, open gate and let it kill minotaur. Take the left path avoiding the two extra minotaur. Now either use feather fall and jump below to where the field of spores are; or, walk down the ramp below phalar aluve. This will trigger the bulette, but you can jump on the big mushroom thing off the ledge which will despawn it. Get past the field and you are there. Even on honour mode you can get the 1500g for the caustic band pretty quick, especially by running around collecting all the caches of loot buried and hidden around the map.

    Great build, I have a question tho: I've been trying out this build and am currently level 4. It absolutely shreds and my other followers litteraly feel useless in comparison! However I experimented with getting a lvl 3 hireling for weapon bond and used it on the Everburn Blade you can get at the beginning of the game. The weapon's damage is higher than the Returning Pike on paper however I seem to be barely getting half the damage than when throwing the returning pike instead. I compared many throws, used Enraged throw etc, still very noticably lower damage.
    Can anyone explain why ? is it because it is a slashing damage weapon, does that even matter?
    Feels like I'm missing something

    • @common_undead
      @common_undead Před 4 měsíci +3

      The returning pike has the "thrown" property. The everburn blade does not. Weapons that do not have the thrown property will only do 1 damage when thrown instead of their damage dice (2d6 slashing + 1d4 fire in the case of the ever burn blade).
      All spears and tridents are throwing weapons. Light weapons like hand axes and light hammers are throwing weapons. Javelins and daggers are throwing weapons.
      The returning pike is unique in the sense that it's a pike but is also a throwing weapon (pikes normally aren't). Similarly, you can find a warhammer in act 3 which is a throwing weapon when warhammers usually aren't.

    I've done this build, it's incredibly powerful beyond reasonable, but I will never do it again because of two mechanical problems: (1) I lost my weapon countless times -- it does not return if you switch out of your thrower before it return, it does not return if this is the throw that ends the battle and it also does not return if a hidden d6 rolls 2 (joking) and (2) the throwing trajectory is a high arc and quite often you see 'path blocked' when a bow shot or a spell would hit. First is more important, I've lost my returning pike and had do always throw Nirulna, because I noticed that too late and it was in one-time access zone. Nirulna is great but its AoE is very large and I broke my party concentration with it countless times. But still this build took like 75% HP from finalest boss, so it's still the MVP.
    But I have a question -- why do we see several crit numbers from one throw? It's damage rider or source fixed in honor mode? I played this build on a simple Tactical, where I though the insane damage of the build is just because DRS.
